    • thank you! saves me from trying to book for a holiday mid next year

still useful to take your mistress out

      Always so reliable. Thank you!

For anyone in Sydney - this is an excellent/cheap way to get a gym membership the living well gym.

It worked last time, when they ran this offer a few months ago.

    • +2

how is hilton deal relate to gym membership ?

      • +18

The living well is inside the hilton hotel. Amex seems to recognise it at the same merchant. Just need to pre-pay in lots of $300 to get the $150 back.

        • +1

Please tell me more about gym

        • +1

          @sp00ker:

How much for the 6 months membership

        • @easternculture:

Not sure what it costs at the moment. Most places lock your rate back to when you joined.

I would aim for $750-$800 - depending on the promotions they're running at time you join. Sometime they offer free months, other times they have 'joining fee waiver' etc.

Also see my comment below about the 'new years resolution special'

        • @sp00ker

The gym is pretty tiny. Went one day to check it out. One small class room. Was excited about the pool except the smell of chlorine was toxic.

          Not a fan at all.

My beloved hard candy gym has rebranded to crunch. You can get pretty cheap deals. Only downside is that it's now packed like crazy :(

        • @CheapskateQueen:

It's not for everyone. Just depends what you're after. I'm sure Hardy Candy has better looking women, which is important for some people :)

I wouldn't say the size is as small as a classroom. They have almost every piece of equipment you can think of and almost no wait times.

50% off with amex make it a good deal compared to fitness First, good life and virgin active which are similar gyms in the area.

        • @sp00ker:

Sorry didn't mean classroom. But room for classes.

But yeah each to their own

        • @CheapskateQueen:

Ah - now i get it. I don't really do classes, so I can't comment on the size of the studio. I know each class has limited capacity … no idea how difficult it is to get a spot.

    • +1

      mmm tell me more?

      • +2

To summarise : Comprehensive equipment and a fair number of classes.
        Pool, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi.
        Towels and toiletries provided.
One item of laundry pressed for free by Hilton laundry per day.
Only downside is gym area has no windows - its completely indoors…

        • Also, you only get access to 1 gym in the city … larger chains let you use other clubs … so its not for everyone.

It's nicer than most other gyms in the area.

    • Qualifying Purchases include accommodation, food and beverages and other incidentals during your stay which are paid at the hotel front desk at the time of check-out.

  • I already booked In there …. can I spend on something else or it suppose to be accomodation only I meant was.. Breakfast n stuff

    • Read here:

Qualifying Purchases include accommodation, food and beverages and other incidentals during your stay which are paid at the hotel front desk at the time of check-out.

      • +1

        oh yeah just saw.. thanks

      • Would it still qualify if eating at the restaurant meant not paying at the front desk but at the restaurant cash register?

        • Might not count toward, as it state "during your stay which are paid at the hotel front desk…" sounds like they need a room card to charge then payout by AMEX in order to qualify.

        • @dlovep:

Yeah I'm getting the feeling since the restaurants inside the Hilton may not necessarily be owned by Hilton, then the meal would be charged by the resturant rather than Hilton which would make the deal invalid.

        • @phxsun: Otherwise would be nice to dine in and save like $150 at the Glass brasserie.

        • @dlovep:
Oh for sure. I'm guessing the vouchers are excluded as well since it's considered a gift card

        • @phxsun: Yeah, the detail T&C: https://merchantgeo.secure.force.com/selectsImage/servlet/se…

          Transactions that are not eligible
          - transactions where you buy a gift card, store credit or a voucher.

  • is this credit to spend at Hilton or $150 cashback on the card

    • Cashback by Amex on your statement.

    • Statement credit

  • +2

Has anyone ever tried splitting payment at checkout? (if not prepaid online)

have 5 cards, could really do with a holiday somewhere..

    • +1

Each night booked seperately on seperate cards.

      • Could they then kick you out at 10am and make you check in at 2pm? Surely not.

        • +2

Tried it, and it works, as long as they have all your bookings lined up.

Did this in another country because I needed to extend my stay (therefore booking an extra night).

They will be confused for a minute, look at your funny, and all fine once they figure out what has happened.

    • I want to know the same. Is it possible to just make the one booking online for multiple nights at Hilton and then say split the payment when you checkout over 2 cards, so effectively getting $300 back?

    • +2

I did, but it best to call the hotel to confirm. The reception at my hotel told me to do that at the check-in not check-out

    • +1

Yes I was able to split the bill between multiple cards (only 2 cards, not sure how they would treat more than 2) at the Hilton in Perth and wasn't an issue at all. So guessing it should be fine for others.

      • Oh, really?
So ideally should be able to split it to 4 cards?

  • +1

Ah would've been amazing for feb! Shame

    • +1

I booked a 2 night stay in feb online for melb double tree. paid using amex, just got my $150 statement credit….

      • You legend for confirming! Thanks! Mum gets a nice hotel for her birthday then haha

      • Hi beermee did you book a 'pre-paid' rate that hit your Amex right away? or are you paying on checkout?

      • yeah did you book pay on stay?

  • Gift Card purchases and pre-paid online bookings are excluded.

'Book directly with Hilton Portfolio of Hotels & Resorts' refers to booking or reserving a room via any 'Hilton booking Channel'. Booking channels include: Hilton HHonors Customer Care (Call Centre), online channel (for example, HHonors.com, Hilton.com, Hiltonhoteldeals.com); or directly on premise with the hotel.

    • Is someone going to try and buy a gc on premise

      • i would try but does any one know of any hiltons in sydney or melbourne that sell them?

    • Sorry to reply to old post, but as you say the amex t&c states pre-paid online bookings are excluded.
Do you know if pre-paying by the HHonors Customer Care call centre would qualify for cashback? And do you know if we are able to register with HH and immediately benefit from discounted price? Thanks

  • When I try and enrol it takes me to the amex portal but then the offer isn't there - weird.

    • It was not in my benefits tab but the manual links worked for me and my supplementary card.

      • yeah, I have added deals before obviously. Just tried again, takes me to the portal and has a lot of deals that I don't want, but no hilton deal. weird. :/

        • Sold out?? just guessing.

        • @ozmu:

Nah when it's gone it says so afaik.

    • I had similar issues in the past with other offers.
Just use the manual link provided in the post.

      • Yeah I am using the manual link - it takes me to amex connect - click enrol, which then opens the amex portal in a new window. Except the offer is not showing there.

        • Open up with "InPrivate" browsing.

  • +2

Also have a look at 'glass brasserie' - it's a fine dine restaurant inside the Hilton Sydney.

You can stack this with $50 coupon in entertainment book.

You effectively get $350 value for $150 cash spend. I think 4 people could feast for $350.

    • -1

So we need entertainment book deal with this deal??

      • +1

Only if you want to stack the entertainment book with the amex deal.

        • Should be possible. One is coupon the other is couponless cashback. Anyone has link to entertainment book deal?

        • +1

          @ozmu:
You have to buy the book to get the vouchers/deals for Entertainment Book.

        • @arctan: You can view them all online these days though.

    • Sorry I am a newbie with this stuff.

But isn't this applicable when paying at reception on check out?

Glass brasserie is not part of Hilton?

    • I can't find glass brasserie in entertainment book?

It was suggested when I search, but no deal to open, might have been removed? Lots of good deals are removed this year.

      • Fail!

I withdraw my comment about stacking the deals. Hopefully it re-appears soon.

If you end up joining the gym, I think you get a discount at the restaurants … so you could stack that.

        • Haha.

Thanks for the gym suggestion though, just waiting for their call back about pricing right now.

    • Hi sp00ker .. are you sure you'll get the credit if dining at glass?
I know its part of hilton - but does it still qualify/would it still work ?

      • +4

I recently spoke to Glass Brasserie in Sydney. They said that I can buy a Hilton Gift Card - apparently they have two types - 1) for accomodation use only; 2) monetary value gift card. They only accept monetary value gift card and it can be bought over the phone. so as long as you buy the gift card say worth $300, you can use it and I am assuming the gift card would have 1 year expiry.

        • Would this get the $150 cashback? I thought gift cards weren't eligible.

        • +1

@Chikki01: Amex doesnt know what you are buying so it MAY work

        • -4

          @tghtarse:

Thanks for letting me know! I spoke to them too and they said it was a 'gift card' and gift cards are specifically excluded on this deal so I doubt it :(

        • +2

          @Chikki01:

I think its a similar scenario with the dan murphys amex credit on gift cards . The terms say gift cards are excluded, but i dont beleive they have a way to check.

In my (limited) experience with previous amex deals , i've always gotten a cash back when buying gift cards. But yes - its always a risk because technically its not eligible

    • i am very keen on knowing this as well…
glass brasserie would be a perfect night out for my family of 4!

if it has the same merchant name as hilton reception uses, $150 credit should be claimed.

but who is going to take the risk spending $300+ here??? any volunteers??

go and do it! or would it be too impolite to ask them if they are the same merchant on the card system? haha

      • You can buy gift voucher through the hiltonsydney website … I'm sure they'll sell them over the phone too.

  • All these hotels deals!! I'm sorted for Christmas holidays!! THanks TA

  • Can I go to the Hilton and buy gift cards to use later

And how long is the expiry

    • 109 days left

      • mm do they sell gift cards at hilton hotels?

        • +1

hiltonsydney has several 'vouchers' available on their website.

Don't think they sell regular stored value cards.

  • So i don't really need to book a room? But i can simply join their gym member or enjoy their food outlet, right?

    • +2

It worked like that last time they ran this promotion.

      • How much for their gym membership and for how long ?

        • +1

See comment above - i would aim for $750-800 for 6 months. Possibly lower monthly rate for a longer commitment.

        • So its like 600-650$ after refund, 100$ a month, thats not bad.

        • @castaway:

Refund? do you mean statement credit?

Remember to split the payment across cards, so you can get multiple credits. Any self-respecting OZB member will have at least a dozen cards to split it across.

        • I just cancelled 2 Amex cards :( so only 1 letf

        • @castaway:

amex-issued supplementary cards qualify for a separate credit!

    • I hope you're correct. Half price dinner be pretty good!

      • that is still pretty expensive for a dinner

      • +1

Absolutely, I really want to know if it would work for Adelphi Grill in Perth. Don't really want to over eat and drink then find out it doesn't

        • +4

I just called perth hilton, they do gift vouchers to be spend at perth hilton, need to pre-order them, i havent ordered them yet but i assume that would be safe way to get half price dining

        • That is the exact place I want to go to when I head down there next week!

        • @koga:
Thanks, that is what I wanted to know as well. Since my extended family has already planned to have dinner at the Perth Hilton in the next month or so, half price stacked with Entertainment Book is a bonus!

        • @jayz: I used to have Friday lunch time beers there all the time when I was working close by but that was 10 years ago

        • @jehane:
i didnt realised they are in ent book!

        • @koga: Dont think they are in the entertainment book anymore. They used to be I think

        • @koga:
My mistake, it turns out that I was confusing it with the Hyatt.

  • wow, Hilton or Marriott guys? Can someone recommend me?
