I've gotten so many months of free unlimited 4G thanks to OzBargain referrals.

    Seriously. Love OzBargain.

Mods: Can you add the referral box to this deal? Not showing up because TGC are the seller.

  • The problem here is if you end up being in an area with poor reception, the 14 day money back guarantee will only apply to the cost of the plan and not the modem since you bought it from a third party.

    • A guy I work with bought his from HN and returned it no problems when it performed poorly for him.

      • Weird, usually they wont accept returns it if packaging is open.

        • Not in this case.
My boss did the same thing with TGG and one of these also :)

    • I bought it from the good guys and returned it when I couldn't get any reception at home.
No problems from the good guys.

  • Works great. ADSL Speeds and no hiccups streaming HD content.

If you're considering signing up please use the OzBargain VividWireless referral program, which will provide you and the referrer with one month free credit:

Mods: I assume the referral link is fine as it's your referral link (random), not to a specific user.

    • I'm concerned that OzBargains referral system may not be suitable.

If an OzBargainer in the referral system is no longer a VividWireless customer and you use their referral link provided in the random generator. Does anyone know if you still get a free month?

      • Does anyone know if you still get a free month?

        must be an active account

      • Very good point. It's a shame so many referrals must be going to waste. :(

  • Also please be aware you can get the modem for free if you sign up to a 24 month contract with vivid directly. I did and I have not had a single issue. Fast speed with no drop outs.

    • I definitely wouldn't sign myself away for 24 months to a super erratic ISP like Vivid, just to save myself the cost of a modem.

      • What makes them super erattic.

        • Their entertainment division can be a bit hit or miss?

It's wimax and you're dealing with cell coverage.

I would only use Vivid if I absolutely had no other choice and I couldn't get a landline or NBN.

There are some lucky people, though, that are in areas with great signal etc - but the majority of people I know with them were getting very mediocre speeds, but weren't tech savvy enough to realise it.

        • @Deviner: No It's not.
It USED TO BE WiMax, its now Optus Wholesale 4G LTE, with a 10-Rx 1-Tx Mbps throttle.

        • @MasterScythe: Fair enough that may be, but either way, it's still flaky.
My really not tech-savvy friend was looking for internet while in an NBN enabled apt complex and Vivid convinced her not to get NBN and to get their service instead.
She was getting about 1mbit download sync speeds for 12 months and she lived across the road from the Crown casino in Perth, so a fairly built up area.
She naively signed up for 12 months in order to get the free modem and they wouldn't let her cancel without paying out the remaining months of her contract.

So as I said, some people get decent speeds but a lot of people get atrocious speeds.
Unless you're in a position where you can't get a land line for whatever reason, or you live next door to an Optus cell tower, I don't see why anyone would choose Vivid.

        • @Deviner: Since optus dont restrict certain MVNOs over others. Your best way to test is to have someone with a 4G mobile phone, on optus, come to your house.

You'll soon have the answer :)

          @MasterScythe: Yep, that'd be a decent shout.
I only found out she'd signed up for the plan after the fact, so I didn't get a chance to forewarn her! :)

For some reason Vivid thought it would be a good idea to shut down the local WiMax tower even though LTE isn't available here yet..

    • Yeah just wanted to say some of my customers have been bitten by this and that you have to be a little careful with Vivid, as they really don't seem to care about customers that have been with them even since the start.

No warning, nothing, just BAM one day Vivid took down the Casuarina tower (I think it was - it was near Oldbury, WA anyway), and left quite a few of my customers stranded out of nowhere.

When they rang they were basically told that they'd shut down the tower and tough titties. No compensation or refunds for the month nothing.

This area has no ADSL even (copper is so bad I get clicking and humming whenever customers in this area call me) so they're now on very expensive Telstra 4G. Which is very weird as I thought Optus had bought Vivid a while back but they made no move to try and get them on to Optus?

I realize these things happen and technology moves on but the way Vivid handled the situation was very disgusting so please keep in mind they're not particularly customer focused.

  • Worth pointing out - if you buy it from Harvey Norman you get 1 month free… so that makes it $200 - $90 per month = $110.00, which I think is a better deal.

if you had used a referral code you could get another month free

      • How do you get a referral code?
I am in Fawkner as well and the internet is really slow here.

        • open your pm's

        • @randomrandom: I just enabled private message for my account, could you please resend it?
          Thanks.

    • can you please confirm where I can find this deal? their chat service can only read me what's on their website.

I bought it last month from HN and customer service rep told me that if I have any problem I just need to bring it and I will get the refund without any question asked. I am in Fawkner and get 1.2mb downloading and 150kbps uploading while on speedtest it shows 9.8mbps download and 1mbps upload. Seriously i am really happy to have it because Telstra is only provider here and on that i used to get around 250kbps download. Highly recommended in Fawkner area

They need to have a speed boost pack, UpTo 30mbit, needs to be faster than ADSL as a selling point, they would have so many more customers

    • I have friends who can only get ~4Mbps ADSL. This would be great for them.
