  • What does the normal price goto for the following year?

Netregistry domains for .sydney are $90 a year, so this is a premium domain.

    • Don't know, never actually owned a domain for more then 2 years :D

    • they show $5.99 for me.

  • Price can vary if the registry operator has classified your desired domain name as a premium name, which incurs a variable higher price than what's shown above.

Find one on the cheap though: bullshitdomains.sydney

  • Sure but then to keep it you'll need to pay like $160/2 years

    Are they an Aussie company?

That's about right normal price is around $65-$75 a year.

      Are they an Aussie company?

I believe they're based in New Zealand (NZ) I believe there either owned or resell domain names from Instra based on the last time I looked into them. Instra is an Australian Melbourne-based company.

  • Thanks Op. Any ideas for free hosting?

  • Just to make sure other are aware: the 'domain contact' information that they display to you before purchase is not actually the full extent of what gets published. Although they make it appear like just your name and email will be published, it's actually the whole lot (phone number, address etc.). So be careful, you might be signing yourself up for SMS spam (maybe best to use a 'secondary' phone number).

edit: in case anyone is wondering, just run a good ol' whois against a .melbourne or .sydney domain to see what gets published. Well, guess it's time to move house :)

Quite a misleading comment really, considering that almost all (standard) domains are the same. That's the whole idea (traceability) of whois records.

If you are still too dumb to comprehend the concept of a disposable email address, or routing via a filter to remove junk) in this day and ages, then you deserve to get spammed.

If you want domain privacy, use a registrar that provides it. I haven't checked if this service offers it or not, but many country TLDs (eg: .in, .com.au, etc) do not allow proxy of whois contact details.

      • How is my comment misleading? Could you please point out where I said this is unusual? Are you suggesting people should lie about their address and phone numbers (which are mandatory sign-up fields)?

And no, they don't offer whois-guard type protection for these TLDs (they do for some other types). Other providers do, though. I've got a domain with whois proxying that I've had for some time now, in fact. But thanks for suggesting that I'm "dumb" because I'm just trying to inform people who might not be as familiar as you so obviously are with the domain-name system.

        • Your comment is misleading because it is worded like this domain registrar is somehow "different" and "inferior".

I am not pulling you up on your good advice that whois details are often not private. I am pulling you up on making it seem like this is a bad registrar to use. You also didn't make it clear that some domains allow Proxy registration (so-called "domain privacy") whilst others like .com.au do not allow it.
