I was after an Asus n61jq-jx002v yesterday and got it for $1433 + a free XBOX 360 Arcade from Harvey Norman.
I thought I got a good deal.

Today I went to JB Hifi at Castle Hill and they had it marked $1,451 less 10% bringing it down to $1,305.90

  • That is a STEAL for a laptop with these specs:

    I have this very laptop. It has a bluray drive as well … bought it in the DSE raster sale. Awesome laptop. Battery life isn't great but its hella fast. Glossy screen that's a little reflective but besides that… awesome device.

        Its really good. Played Splinter Cell Conviction on highest settings and was not a problem at all.

    5730M is pretty good for gaming

    It is near the top of class 2 rated cards

      Just get the 320gb HDD since you can get a 640gb HDD on ebay for $100. It has 2 HDD bays so you can use both. 3 yr warranty is good too. CPU is maybe not the best but it's more than enough for most games which don't heavily depend on the CPU and you can always upgrade it if you need to. i7 is good but you won't notice that much of a difference anyway in most cases. An SSD upgrade is more worthwhile.

          For gaming? Hardly massive. The GTX 260M > HD 5730 which is more important for gaming. If you read who my comment was directed at you'd know it was for someone wanting a portable gaming machine.

        Better to spend the extra $100 and get a i7 (which is a much better option than the one in that)

          Alzori wants a PORTABLE GAMING machine. My suggestion is perfectly valid. It's better for gaming as the GTX 260M is much better than the 5730M. The i7 won't make up for the weaker card. C2D + GTX 260M will perform better in games than the i7 and 5730M. That Core 2 Duo is more than enough for most games. I have it. I know.

          My suggestion wasn't directed at anyone looking at the deal. It was only directed at Alzori since he asked for a gaming machine…

          If gaming is not your priority then yes, spend the extra for the i7.

    Just remember that Harvey Norman can be incredibly difficult to deal with in the event of a warranty issue.

    I wouldn't recommend Harvey Norman to anyone for this reason alone.

    If you have a choice, purchase from elsewhere.

    I got mine last Thursday for $1320 on 6 months deferred payment with free Xbox. That $1306 from JB is a great price to match if you can with a free Xbox

    I bought this laptop (n61jq-jx002v)from Good Guys on VIP Sale yesterday for $ 1260! Beleive it is around the lowest you would get for this model for now.

      Agreed. This laptop is being sold for almost 1700 in most places. Infact, right before this deal was published, I saw it last week in JbHiFi for 1600+

        I was thinking going to get the N61JQ-0021X before..

        but the price difference for the extra BluRay Drive is around $300,- (not worth it)

        Probably going to get external BluRay Burner later..(2-3 years..)
