Bauhn 65" 4K LCD TV $799 at ALDI - It's Back 15/10 (Excludes WA/SA)

2230

It's back again. For those who missed out on this deal, here's a second chance.

Available NSW/VIC/QLD only.

I picked one up last month and am very happy for the price. Sound is predictably average so you'll want to hook up some speakers. Watching the NRL GF on 9HD was fantastic.

Full specs from the Bauhn website here.

Also worth noting is that it's really light. I'm an average sized guy and had no issues carrying it myself.

Standard Aldi 60 day money back guarantee and 12 month warranty apply. No smart/android functionality but we've all got a few Chromecasts by now which does the job well.

Solid Gizmodo review here. Following his suggestions certainly make it a better viewing experience.

i got this aldi tv few months ago

Was that the earlier model then? It was atrocious from the reviews but the later model seems a lot better.

  • Does this to that 2:2:2 text or whatever it is that makes text from a PC look OK ?

I think I mean to say, does it do full RGB or YCbCr 4:4:4

    http://www.pcgamer.com/how-to-pick-and-tune-a-tv-to-use-as-a…

  • Thanks OP.
I thought the one on Sale a couple off weeks ago was a SMART TV?
    Am I wrong?

    • +2

Nah just a huge dumb TV. $23 Chromecast from TGG sorts it out pretty easily though.

      • Lol. Cheers

      • chromecast version 1 and 2 cannot do 4K FYI

  • There is one sitting here at rosehill Aldi off James ruse near Parramatta if anyone is looking for one

  • Does this have the same slow processor as the 55 inch, glitchy channel navigating and that annoying message when you first turn it one with the loading message across the screen and cant change channel for about a 40 secs

    • +1

Nope. Bauhn logo for about 5 seconds then straight into. EPG is the standard semi opaque overlay style, works well.

  • It says HDMI 2.0 but how many ports does it Have? Just one?

  • -5

Everyone seems to be praising this TV. but I wanted to point out the glaring issues with the UI.

The "smart TV" capabilities are basically non existent. Ie, using the "netflix" app simply opens a web browser to netflix website. So without a built in netflix app such as what is found on a current LG webos tv you won't be able to stream netflix 4k without an external device capable of 4k. Not cheap.

The remote is also nasty to use. Flame if you want, I actually pushed my mate to buy this tv previously and we were shocked at the UX

    • From what I've read, most people "praising" it are saying you need a Chromecast or similar to go with it precisely because its builtin capabilities are rubbish.

      • +1

Yep all good, its just buyer beware though, even with a chromecast you can't stream 4K because chromecast only does 1080p max. I have both version 1 and version 2 chromecasts

    • +2

They are praising this TV (ATVU65), not the 'smart' model which you are referring to (ATVS65). This current one has only been on offer once before, about three weeks ago.

    • +3

      Wrong TV mate.

This listing is for the one that has no smart functions, has a snappy UI and no input lag.

      Less is more.

      • +3

ahh nice i'll get back in my hole then :)

  • -8

I bought this TV 3 weeks ago. To sum it up I can't fault this TV for what it's worth. I play everything from wdtv, Apple TV and wii U and it's been playing everything excellently whatever I have thrown at it . I am using it only as display unit as sound is routed through HT system.

I bought it with an intention to test it and return it within 60 days so that I will have a first hand experience about its performance to consider it as my next TV when my current one dies. 3 weeks into this experiment I don't feel like returning this .. !

    • +5

Buying it with the intention of returning a USED TV is abusing the system. That's pretty low mate. It's not a library.

  • +1

Does it take long to change the channel? We've got an old soniq and it takes forever for the channel to change after pressing the remote.

    • +3

Nope, no delay. Menus come up immediately, channels change within a second.

  • +13

Picked one up a couple of days ago to replace my Series 8 Samsung Plasma that's just blown up. What a fantastic TV for the price, great picture once fiddled with and nice and quick to respond to inputs.

There is a firmware update for this TV it fixes an audio delay issue so I'd suggest doing that first if you haven't already.

I'm using ARC through my Pioneer amp – no issues whatsoever.

These are my calibration settings - I found that these settings give a fantastic picture.

    My settings are as follows:
    Picture mode: Personal
    Contrast: 60
    Brightness: 45
    Saturation: 50
    Tint: 50
    Sharpness: 35
    Colour Temp: Normal
Noise Reduction: Low (for DTV input), Off (for HDMI input).
Backlight (changeable by entering service menu – press "MENU", then "1, 1, 4, 7" to enter, then select "Panel Setting"): 50

    • Mine won't let me change sharpness even though I'm in personal mode… And changing backlight seems to make no difference??

I've already updated to the latest firmware.

  • whats this TV like as a computer monitor?

  • How does the Soniq U65TX14A compare
I Know the soniq might be an extra $200 but you get 3 years warranty.
Ive had a 55" soniq for the last 5 years its been great, looking to upgrade.
Would appreciate any thoughts about both these TV's
    Thanks :-)

  • Is this available in WA on 15/10? Can't seem to find on the hardcopy catalogue that I collected yesterday. Only found $189 for 24" FUll HD TV.

  • Hi all - bought this in the original sale a few weeks ago. I have to admit HD content is amazing (netflix, sport on FTA), but SD content horrible (which i guess is to be expected). I watch most of my content through foxtel, which is just probably going to cost me extra $ for HD foxtel now… :) - lucky the tv was so cheap

Anyone got any recommendations for a good sound bar (or similar) and wall mount? Currently just running a chromecast and foxtel standard IQ box..

    Cheers

    • +1

You're always going to get a shocking picture from SD on a 65" panel - let alone when it is upscaled to 4k.

Wall mount - I always use Selby Acoustics (www.selby.com.au) - fantastic quality mounts, bargain pricing - can't go wrong.

Can't tell you much about soundbars because they're not really my thing - but make sure you get one that has optical input.

      • Thanks mate- will order one of the Selby ones - appreciate your advice

  • My parents have the 58" version of this tv. They tell me it takes around 3 minutes to "warm up" after having it turned off with the button. I'd pay double the price for the same tv just to never have to wait 3 minutes+ to be able to watch it after turning it on!

Can anyone tell me if this version has a long warm-up time?

    • I believe that was the earlier version. It seems this model doesn't have that issue.

      • Terrific. So if previous buyers have (unfixed) issues, what will this one have or develop? Cheap, but sure sounds like support is still a bit of a let-down.

We had a 32" Tevion once, it didn't die within the warranty period (it took just under 5 years to go fizz) but it too lacked energy; it would lethargically wait a second or two after any button on the remote was pressed. Luckily, I was able to use a programmable remote instead, which solved the problem (slow remote… wtf?) Anyhow, just saying, there seems to be a few issues too many with these Aldi TVs for my liking.

Then again, my Samsung has a lethargic EPG and also can take a while to 'notice' commands form the remote, so maybe a lot of TVs suffer form one sort of recalcitrance or another.

        • maybe a lot of TVs suffer form one sort of recalcitrance or another.

          You'll find that they're made in Malaysia…

(Fans of our esteemed former Treasurer/PM 'scumbag' will get that one)

        • @StewBalls: Ah-hah, I should have guessed this was all down to 'The Malay Dilemma', in which Malays are described 'spiritually inclined, tolerant and easy-going'. Maybe Dr Mahathir's revenge will never end?

As much as he let the media know wasn't very happy with the southern loudmouth of the day. it's interesting to imagine what he'd have to say about Tony, let alone all his turn-aboutitis. After all, he was far more scathing on both Bush I & II.

    • Definitely does not take 3mins to turn on.

  • +3

I just managed to get the 65inch bauhn TV from aldi today. The staff told me that I can get it on Wednesday, but ended he let me to buy it on the spot. I managed to fit it in Honda civic sedan only after I unpack the box. So far I am impressed with the quality, only need to calibrate the colour and its good to go.

    • Nice work mate. Does it have optical out ?

      • Yes. 1 optical output and 1 USB port

  • Can OP put in deal description that this doesn't appear to be available in WA?

We get the 24" FullHD with DVD Player for $189 instead….

    • Will do.

      • Same for SA, not in our catalogue either.

  • Aldi TV's have crap tuners

    • +1

This one doesn't - it's quite good. Eliminating the "smart TV" functions is a good way to get rid of the slowdown by the looks of it. My previous Samsung had a shockingly bad tuner, really slow to react to inputs etc.

      • +1

        Nothing smart about "smart tvs"

  • Does this TV have PIP or dual view option?

  • Do they have optical out ??

  • -1

Hate to say it, but people who buy this won't see the difference between 4k and 1080p anyway.

There's so many more important aspects that make up a great image. This may be a good panel for the price, but I wouldn't be worrying too much about 4k. Resolution in this instance isn't a big deal, despite the marketing. You want better contrast, black level, etc.

    • That's your opinion - in some cases it may be true, but in others it is not.

This panel calibrates quite nicely, with quite good contrast and black levels.

      • When you say "calibrates", what do you mean?

Does it actually have a calibration mode where you can adjust the individual primaries? If so how many calibration modes and how many points on each one?

Or do you just mean you fiddle with the backlight, contrast and brightness until it looks good to you?

  • +2

I want this TV but my 58 inch plasma is over 40kg I can't move it…

  • Just observing there is no mention of it on the website: https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-sat-15-…

    • +2

Doesn't appear in any of the other online catalogue websites either (Lasoo, etc.) even when changing location. So looks like just an 'east coast' special this time around, as only advertised in their local print catalogue.

  • Is by chance anyone aware of any current stock in the wider Sydney area? Or a way to check it?

    • I had to call ALDI head office to find out, 13 25 34, that's the only way according to the lady on the phone.

No stock: Meadownbank, Lidcombe, Ryde, North Strathfield.

The lady said more stock is set to arrive this Saturday.

      • Do you by chance know if there is any stock (left from last offer?) before Saturday?

        • +1

There were 6 in the Parramatta store, but all gone now. They will get more on the weekend.

  • What do you watch in 4k?

    • +1

      porn

      • Porn is always at the forefront of Internet technology. ;-)

  • Got one today at Brandon park. Was the only one out that I could see. Not sure if its a customer return or what. Didn't fancy queuing on Saturday. Will check it out thoroughly before keeping it.

  • Got it setup now. In the service menu it says the panel is a lsc650fn08. Is this the good version? I think its a Samsung panel.

    • You're the one with the panel right in front of you and access to the service menu. How about you give your thoughts after tweaking the settings for a bit?

      • +1

Its great after setting it up using the settings given earlier, backlight is nice and even then. As noted earlier, sound is absolutely terrible. But HD and above looks terrific. My shield TV is shoving 4k@60Hz into it. My HTPC can only manage 4k@24Hz into it. So at least is got some headroom for future HTPC upgrades. Unbeatable bang for buck really.

For a point of reference its replacing a 5yo sony 46NX710 that was $2.3k (with a free PS3 by redemption) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/34188

  • Cannot find such promotion from ALDI website or other catalogue. May no longer available.

    I am in Melbourne

    • This is definitely on this Saturday in NSW.

It is not on the web site because they dont differentiate by state on the Web, and this deal is not in SA or WA.

Are you checking the catalogue which shows deals that will start this Saturday? I am pretty sure other people in Vic say it is in their Vic catalogues.

My local (Newcastle NSW) Aldi says they are expecting 4 pallets of this TV and they dont expect to sell out before noon.

  • I checked lasoo, catelogueau and other sites, all without this offer.

Maube not available in vic as well

    Anyone in Melbourne see this?

    • One of the guys in east Melbourne had the deal in his catalog.
They don't deliver any catalogs to me, so sadly i can't comment on south.

      • would love to purchase one from Dandenong, anyone know if theres any laying in the back or should I wait until Saturday?

        • You can get it now.

  • Really interested want to buy

  • +1

I got the last one in Parramatta ALDI today at the advertised price. This thing is HUGE. It comes with only an old RCA cable, needless to say that's going straight to the bin. Will be tethering it to my PC with a GTX 1070 via HDMI and will report back on experience.

    • plz do

      • First impressions with a 9 dollar 3m long High Speed HDMI cable from arc.com.au, Gigabyte G1 1070:

        • Fairly good colours and brightness after slight calibration
        • Low input lag via HDMI, negligible for casual gamers.
        • Able to achieve 3840x2160 @ 60hz 8bpc output colour depth
        • Good enough sound out of box.
        • Semi glossy screen.
        • Some screen uniformity at corners.
        • Grey colour horizontal shift, even if I sat 50cm off centre.
        • Some colour banding in 4k youtube videos, slightly more prominent than Philips BDM4065UC 4k monitor.

Worth every dollar (if it last for more than 3 years)!

    • I hooked my sons PC with a ASUS 1070 to my TV on the weekend, it ran UHD fine but only at 30Hz, not 60Hz. It looked great as you would expect, especially after tweaking the settings however I need to investigate a bit further as to why we could not get it to 60HZ. (he can do UDH at 60HZ into a monitor, so it's not the system). I'm thinking that it's either the HDMI cable that I used or possibly because I did not have it set to PC mode (which was greyed out, it seems you can only select that when the signal is 1080P from what I have read).

I'll be interested to know how you go with yours. Needles to say it's an excellent display for the $$, we played some games and watched a bit of 4K content as well and everyone was happy with the quality - it replaced a 50" Sammy plasma that was about 7 years old..

      • +1

Look at another cable. If you have one lying around, use an HDMI 1.4 short run cable (1-2m) and see if that works. It should.

HDMI 2.0 is the connector standard, and HDMI 1.4 cables have enough bandwidth to carry UHD at 60hz provided the run isn't too long.

It's also important to get a cable that can carry RGB or 444 colourspace at 60hz if you want to use it as UHD desktop. At the moment my cable tops out at 422 colourspace at UHD, but I don't intend to use it as a PC monitor and my 970 bottleneck, plus distance from the sofa to TV is better off powering games at 1080 (can use RGB at 1080p) than UHD.

I'm using a pretty decent quality 5m DVI-D to HDMI 1.4 cable from my 970 and it has enough bandwidth to carry a UHD 60hz at 422 colourspace along with passthrough audio that the TV then passes through to my speaker system. Although as I sit around 4m away from the TV I gain nothing by using UHD over 1080p and prefer leaving it at 1080p scaled perfectly.

The cable however doesn't let me carry 1440p at 60hz, which other people have confirmed this TV can display - so it's another weird cable issue. I wanted to just leave it at that as that's my main monitor resolution and would be easier to set and forget settings for all games between monitor and TV.

This TV also didn't like the Wii U HDMI cable that came with the unit. Nothing would display when it worked on other HDMI monitors/TVs. I changed that cable and it worked fine.

It's a bit of a different debate from a few years back in regards to HDMI cable quality.

        • I've got a lot of HDMI cables so I'll go through them although to be honest most are approx 2-4 years ol and I'll be buggered if I know if they support 444 or 422 or not :)

Length wise it was a 2 mtr cable that we used so not super long, but I'll see if I can find a newer 2.0 444 cable and go from there.

TBH at this stage it will mainly be used for 1080P viewing or FTA for my wife, my sons computer is too awkward to move all the time to game and I have a dedicated theatre room/projector setup for games and movies etc.

I'm more interested for the near future when I get a streamer that can do 4K NEtflix/Youtube etc.

I appreciate the info mate, thanks.

      • Might want to try this cheap cable: http://arc.com.au/product/35038

Also make sure the HDMI UHD mode is set to standard, not enhanced in the Menu > System

  • I dont see it listed as Special Buys in Vic Catalogue this Sat.

    • online catalogue or printed one?

  • Bought the second last one at Westfield Miranda this morning. If you cannot wait until Sat, you can try here.

Just fit the massive box into my Skoda Wagon

    Look forward to testing

    • How did it go? what do you think of it?

      • I cant tell you how it performed as never got a chance. I opened it only to find several punctures in the LCD. I didn't even bother to turn it on.

Went straight back to the store and returned it, no questions asked refund.

Might venture out on sat and pick up another one. Does anybody have some hi res pics of the image quality before I do?

  • Something else a bit retarded in the firmware (aside from the headphone jack being fixed level). Is that you can't change source using the source button on the side. You can press it, and cycle/select a source in the list, but it doesn't actually switch to that source at any point!!!! So no point even having that button lol.

    • You have to press the enter button after selecting the source (at least thats what I remember, I'm at work at the moment) which is the same as both of my Samsung TV's.. Or is enter not working for you?

      • Thats the thing, there isn't an enter button on the side of the TV.

        • Sorry mate, I thought you were talking about the remote as the source button is on the left side!

        • Seems similar to other TV's. Press SOURCE to get the menu, use the CHANNEL+ or CHANNEL- buttons to select, use VOL+ to lock it in.

Our remotes go missing all the time; this is the workaround.

  • Picked up from Brandon Park VIC on Sunday. There was another one left in the store, which appears to be what stumo got. Upgrade from Sony 46 with PS3, also have a shield. Stumo, you are my OB twin mate!!
For all those not seeing in VIC catalogue, the sale started last week. You may still be in luck to find stock. I'm guessing that reputation of the previous TVs may be the reason why stock may still be available.

    • For all those not seeing in VIC catalogue, the sale started last week.

Actually, originally these were first on sale starting 17th Sept (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/264686). Now they on sale again this coming Saturday, but only in the eastern states it seems (appearing in local print catalogues only, nothing online about it).

Those picking up TV's in the last week or so are either getting stock left from the original sale, or in some cases maybe new stock they are selling early(?)

      • +1

I'm in QLD, the one I got on Saturday was stock from the upcoming sale. I actually went in to buy one that was left from the previous sale but it had sold, so I asked the manager if they had any left and she pulled one out saying it was for the upcoming sale but as she recognised me (must have been the beard) she was happy to sell one to me early. Which I did not complain about.

    • +1

Lol I was going to go on Sunday too. We could've eyeballed each other suspiciously.
