I got a cheap Chinese Miracast device and honestly Miracast is terrible. The only options were third party Miracast mobile apps which all had their own little bugs and failed in their own ways.
Unless Asus has their own app+PC program, it won't be any different.
Edit: page reads like some Asus devices have built in software. In that case it would work well, otherwise it'd be the same as above - doesn't seem like Asus offers a standalone app.
Why would you need a Miracast app? It's built in to windows 10….
Mobile devices. When comparing to Chromecast I assume he plans on streaming from a mobile to his TV/etc.
@dyl: ah yeah. good point. although some pretty cheap windows phones have this ability out of the box.
@Avatar: Yeah that's the difference though, every Android device has the ability to work with a Chromecast out of the box. I'm unsure how easy it is to get Chromecast working on Windows mobiles, though I know Miracast on Android is an absolute nightmare.
Ive not tried with a Windows phone (or device with more native support), but the $3 I paid for my Miracast device on a price error I feel was only just worth it - wouldn't recommend paying $30-35 (same price as Chromecast). Took me an hour or so of trying random third party apps to get things working.
Miracast has direct wifi, meaning all you need is a phone, this dongle, and a display
Chromecast on the other hand requires a wifi network to connect to. Great for watching netflix, as it means your phone isn't always on sending data, but terrible for traveling.
How is this different from an Apple TV?
Curious to know how this differs from the Chromecast?
