      whilst life's too short to do the maths, I suspect there is a matter of just a couple of cents between the two deals…..

  • What is the spec/model/brand of the hard drive inside?

  • E-SATA=self powered drive with fast transfers, unlike usb2.0!

    • no way, esata still requires power from an external source, only advantage is faster transfers

  • Does this HDD require power from external source?

  • E sata you will need to. Probably a power brick.

  • the newer versions do power over the one cable, check wiki;
    e-SATAP is also known as Power over e-SATA or e-SATA USB Combo. This new e-SATA Port (2009) supply 12V power thus it is able to power up a 3.5" hard disk drive without needing a power adaptor or a separate USB cable as compared to the first e-SATA. Many notebooks are equipped with this connector. A list of notebooks with this new port is available here
    but i don't have this drive so i don't know if it needs an adaptor
