Sony - HT-NT5 - 2.1ch Soundbar $659.20 Including Postage @ Bing Lee on eBay

60
CUT20

Hi… i own the soundbar… and while its a little slow to turn on… it sounds ridiculously good for the money… even compared to a decent set of bookshelf speakers…

Apart from the jbhifi deal way back this is the best price its been since.

Does 4k hdr passthrough… supports all audio formats outside of dolby atmos …

You will have to do research if you wanna find out more… but ive been very satisfied with mine.

  • The sound quality of a receiver and half decent pair of bookshelf speakers for the same price would be miles ahead of any sound bar

Can't really compare the two in terms of features.

This soundbar is wireless and provide Bluetooth and extra hdmi ports for your other entertainment units, something your bookshelf speakers can't do.

In terms of sound quality soundbar has gone a long way since the beginning and can rival many mid-range speakers believe. So it really depends on how much you are spending on your bookshelf speakers.

Can't really compare the two in terms of features.

Er … a typical AV reciever will have HDMI ports to plug your devices into, wireless and bluetooth.

  • Im after the same sound bar as my sony htxt1's subwoofer begins to sound distorted.

However i may wait till Christmas/new year to make the purchase for a better price.

    • Can't claim warranty?

      • -2

Sony warranty was only for 1 year and the unit is 1 year 11 months old so i rang up the retailer Myer and quoted the ACCC consumer law etc to get a store credit.

        • My ht xt 3 broke after 6 months, bought from Sony store so now in the process of getting refund. Let's post some sound bar deals in December, preferably the one without subwoofer box.

        • @eisniwre:

I checked Sony website and it says a standalone subwoofer got 3 year warranty, whereas if its built in to the sound base you got 1 year for the whole unit.

Based on my experience we better opt for the soundbar + subwoofer setup

        • How is that possible, have you been turned on full blast?

My one still in excellent condition after 10 months of daily use.

        • @PW:

I have my volume normal below 20 and bass at 3, would hardly call that a blast.

But then just because my one broke doesn't mean your one will.

        • I bought my HT-XT3 on last December when Sony had their 12 days to Xmas sales. Perhaps you guys bought yours from the damaged carton sales in January and that's why it broke so easily.

        • @PW: yes I bought from damaged Sale but box wasn't t damaged at all.
And Ryan, I'm at small house, I prefer less stuffs.

        • @eisniwre:

Maybe you buy this HT-ST9 on 12 days to Xmas for 1/2 price.

          It has good reviews.

        • @PW: thanks but too expensive way over my budget of $300-ish

        • @eisniwre:

If the price drops to $750 for sure I'll buy one.

  • I prefer the sound plate models as sound woofer is integrated (save space) Too bad my ht xt 3 is damaged and need to be returned.

    • I would have preferred htxt3 to replace my htxt1 but both seem to have been discontinued?

The current line in Sony store is htxt100 but looking at the spec it's an inferior model to its predecessor, without the extra hdmi ports.

      • Htxt3 yesthey were ozbargained early this year was at $350-ish.
But strange no one else got issue only mine.

    • Btw what's wrong with your unit and and hlong have you had it for?

My unit is 1 month from into 2 years I'm very upset.

When i spend a couple of hundred dollars i expect my purchase to last at least 3 years.

I have the impression that Sony's quality control is really poor.

      • Suddenly no sound, screen says please wait.. all buttons on remote and unit itself not working.

  • hey guys. currently have a set of Usher S520 and am looking to replace them with a soundbar. Reason being - i just mounted the tv on the wall and now the speakers look weird alone on the tv cabinet.

would this (or any other soundbar for that matter) come close to the 520s? or am i better off just living with the oddness?

    cheers

    • Ive got Aktimate mini's… iand i think this sounds better… has a tendency to be harsh… but mine has improved with wear in.

  • Hi sound gurus. Slightly off topic, but the inbuilt speaker in my TV is pretty crappy. Can anyone suggest a simple set, say $100 - 150, to plug in to the heaphone outlet? thanks, Peck.
