Has anyone tried using this on a flight?
    Does it fit comfortable? Thanks.

Feel terrible. MacBook 12 is great when traveling.

        Thank you

      • +2

Agreed, I travel with my 15 a lot and never use it on the plane. It would be fine if you're in Business but in regular Economy, forget about it.

        • Yeah. I will get the SP4 instead.

        • @congngo:

If I was doing a lot of flying long distance etc and didn't need the added grunt and high res screen of the Pro, I'd get something like an SP4 or the new Macbook. But all of my work is done at my destination and I'm only flying Domestic, so the amount of work I can get done is minimal when on a 1.5hr flight to Melbourne for example. It would be handy sure, but you have to buy what suits your needs the best.

        • @nafe: Ditto! MacBook is actually pretty powerful and strong on power management. My personal experience on MBP 15, MB, SP and Dell one similar to SP4. MacBook (even the 1st Gen) stood out and is pretty amazing.

        • @nafe: I have an iPad Pro 9.7 with the Smart Keyboard and it actually is much better for plane travel than even the MacBook. But it's still an iPad….haha

    • Surely don't buy it for flights only : )

    • It's definitely a tight fit on a flight and you won't be able to fit much else on the tray table.

  • Item location says VIC. But page says International model. Can someone comment if this will attract import tax ?

    • +2

FYI, here is a comment left by Kogan rep on other post

The sale price that is advertised should be the only price to be paid
We do not expect any extra import duties to be paid by our customers and we should not expect our customer's to be contacted by couriers for any extra payments.
If any customers encounter this, they should contact us directly for this to be resolved.

    • Listing tells you everything you need to know:

This Product is offered and supplied by Dick Smith pursuant to the Terms and Conditions.

and by actually READING the terms and conditions, we can see….

The Dick Smith AU eBay store Product listing states the offer or and/or supplier of each Product. Products which are offered and supplied by Dick Smith are referred to herein as DS Products.

It is important to note that different Terms and Conditions apply in respect of Orders for DS Products and DSE Products. Where you place an Order for DSE Products to be delivered outside of Hong Kong, you will be the importer of the DSE Products into Your jurisdiction.

So, it's not that hard, is it?

      • Perhaps a bit unnecessarily abrasive on the wording but the advice is right. Ts and Cs don't lie. Ts and Cs however don't address the tax issue.

        • Ts and Cs however don't address the tax issue.

The Ts and Cs do address that.

The OP asked "Can someone comment if this will attract import tax ?"

In this particular case, the product is being sold by a company in Australia with an ABN, so the Consumer is not the importer.

Whilst it still attracts duty, that is not the end purchaser's problem since they are not the importer.

Import tax only applies to items that are sold by an overseas company and are imported by the purchaser. Many of these DickSmith/Kogan products are sold by overseas companies, but not this one.

Good deal… but the Macbook Pro refresh must just be around the corner.. it is meant to have some good advancements

    • +5

the way Apple treats the Pro line these days, we may not get anything.

  • +2

I would have thought part of Kogans reasoning for buying DS was to get the Apple distributorship.
Apple must have knocked it back, which says a fair bit.

    Waiting for Kaby Lake…..

  • +3

this is basically a 4 year old laptop mixed with some 2 year old parts, the new one is coming out very soon and will be much better.

    • Am sure they will not price it anywhere less than $3.5k.

  • how does this compare spec wise to the recent lenovo deals? Are apples better hardware/speed or is it mainly for the name/styling?

  • yeah kinda gota hold of for the new macbook…..

  • Did anyone get their mbp yet? reading from earlier this year's deal someone got it after 4 weeks…

    • +1

I got it on 30/09/16, Sydney. Did a pickup at Toll centre, Eastern Creek NSW.

      • +1

Lucky brah, from dicksmith ebay feedback page i can only see one dude got it 10 days before scheduled delivery time frame… everyone else might be still waiting…

  • +1

Not bad, DS sent out on schedule.

  • +1

    Update Note:

    • Product is Malayasian model with original malay power adapter. DS will ship the AU/NZ adapter separately.
    • You can email DS to request for an Invoice. Useful if you plan to travel out to claim Tax. The invoice shows $2743 as purchase amount.
    • I checked the serial number and it showed up as Oz registered model eligible for 90 days Tele and 1 year cover. Best plan is to take Apple care before the 1 year expires. It's currently $349 for MBPs, not sure if this will go up after new MBPs are released.

If mods can append this to the deal description, that would be helpful for future similar deals.

  • Dick Smith still has stock and planning to buy one.(Looking for some coupon). how does warranty works for DickSmith items from ebay.?
is it manufacturer warranty or we have to go to dick smith? apologies, tried reading ebay listing and confused.
