So many tellies….sonmany prices… So hard to chose just one.
Still don't know when to jump and make the outlay for next big price purchase

    • +2

It's not a bargain if you replace it with every minor upgrade. When the new tele does something that you really want and have seen with your own eyes, or when your old tele dies, that's when you pounce on a bargain.

TCL 50" died in April. Lounge is empty, sofa needs companion…..
        Looking for a bargain.

        • Fair enough then. Good luck purchasing. Hope you get an awesome bargain.

        • No TV since April… wow, you must have a kid on the way now ;)

        • @battler:
          It's been…….fun

  • do any of these screens support 10-bit HDR display instead of the 8-bit HDR that early 4K tv's have had? if i'm really going to upgrade to 4K i want the latest standard

    • Should have got LG UH770T 55" in the eBay deal yesterday for $1699. It has HdR10, 200hz and 4K.

    • I dare say the X9300D would be.

    Damn just bought the https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisio….

Any chance of JB refunding $195 difference?

    • Unless you report it damaged …. nah .. I thought jb does price guarantee for 2 weeks or 3 weeks or something. Might be wrong.

      • They have no official policy but reports of some people getting the difference. Only bought the TV last Sunday.

        • +1

I got a refund for price difference due to sale on a laptop a couple of years ago (from JB Hifi). Worth a shot :)

    • Check ur credit card .. if offer price guarantee type benefit / purchase protection

      • Mainly gift cards and a small amount on paypal.

        • +1

then no harm contacting their head office via email / phone, explaining your situation and request (+ seeking advise) to offer you a refund of difference.

they might pass on instructions to the store you bought item from.

    • Bought the 8000C a few days ago, haven't even picked it up yet. Just called up JB-Hifi Bondi Junction, the guy said they have a 30 day price guarantee and it was no problem to refund the difference, didn't specify if the refund would be a cash or gift card and i forgot to ask but should be able to get some kind of refund/credit.

      • Update - Refunded difference back onto credit card, no attitude either!

    • same here. Bought it on Sunday. Spewing. Going to try my luck tonight.

The TVs are the same price that Sony is selling them for. I am guessing everyone will be this price shortly.

    • Is there a new model coming out soon? I had my eyes on the 65' 9300XD that was still over $4k at JB last week, Sony seems to have reduced it to $3,821 now.

      • thats what I am thinking, whole new range maybe due.

      • Well there's the new flagship Z9D that should be out here in a month or so, but being FALD, they won't be cheap. I think the 65" retails for $6k USD, so obviously expect a much higher premium here. Otherwise you will likely be waiting until next year sometime. I'm guessing new models will be announced at CES in Jan, and available to purchase around April-May.

For those of you like me that bought the Sony KD55X8000C 55" 4K - (When priced $1296) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/266438#comment-4013586

I managed for get $195 back in a Gift card because of the price drop.

Thanks to all that with the suggestions.

The guy at JB Hifi said it was an unofficial policy but nearly didn't payout because the purchase with giftcards but because it was a click and collect it was a OK.

    • +1

      Excellent result!

    • I bought it last week, managed to get them down to 1250 at a push, acted like they were giving me the world!
Did you go to head office or into a store?

      Cheers.

      • especially seeing even Sony are selling it for $1100 as well.

      • I rang the store I purchased the TV from.

  • What's the dfference with $1100 and $1600 model?
    Are these 200 Hz?

  • I think the $1100 one is only 50hz?? Lol i was close to buying last week, glad i didnt

  • Just be aware guys some of the Sony TV's are now cheaper @ Bing lee here Except the 8000c
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/267210

  • Im not sure the 8000C has been cheaper than this - great TV for the price - but no HDR is a shame.

HDR is funny, no one cared last year but now everyone wants it.

Its a bit like 4k I suppose, rarely does content actually use it but you still want it to be prepared for the future.

FYI - These Sony TV's look "ugly" mounted due to their thickness they stick out from the wall, compared to my 7 series Samsung anyway. They trick you with the photos never showing a profile picture.

    • Its the new 3D.
Unless the source naterial is specifically HDR, the picture is the same as standard blu ray.
The horrible teal-orange colouring in films and tv shows and games actually becomes annoyingly more orange. But yellows look fantastic.

    • +1

Yeah, I am still not very familiar with HDR in TV. I know what HDR does to still photos. Does it also make the images on TV look more contrasty but artificial?

    • including the wall mount it is 61mm, what are other TVs?

      • I just measured from the wall to the front of my two TV's Sony X8000C (118mm) vs Samsung H7000 (61mm) both using the same slim line bracket.

        • there's two types of wall brackets for the Sony, a normal and a slimline - slim ends up 61mm (some are 60mm) according to their manual, so the same as the Samsung it seems.

        • @PVA:

WTF are you talking about??? I literally have both TV's and the Sony is like twice the thickness of the Samsung.

        • @noise36:
I am just quoting their manual that shows both brackets from Sony, one normal one slim and that's the dimensions they show.
I havent seen the sony brand brackets to compare the two sizes they have.

  • I went to see the TV's and I was disappointed with the image quality. Only in 4k it is outstanding but broadcast channels are awful, they look better on FullHD televisions. On the other hand, I was greatly impressed by LG panels.

Someone can tell me whether or not my HTPC at 1080p will look good on a 4K TV?

  • Just got my insurance payout for a 65inch Samsung we broke. We thought about replacing it with a 65 inch soniq. Would you forgo size for a better brand? We were thinking of getting a 55 or 58 but don't want to regret it. Catch 22

    • You really should go in store to check the differences first man. What are you looking at paying? I might be able to suggest one for you

      • Cheers man. We Would like to ideally spend $1500. Has to be with jb also.

Will be hard downgrading from a curved uhd 65inch Samsung. I've been in store to compare sizes, I guess I just wanted to know peoples opinions on whether they'd go smaller for a better brand/features.

        • Yes I would personally go smaller for a better brand, having to buy it only at Jb def limits your options. I can't see any big brands really for $1500 but if you are able to wait I would as there should be some better deals heading into Xmas, I would keep an eye on the LG 60UH652t Model.

        • @TRENT86:

Thanks man. Big fan of your deals!

Anyway, after umming and ahhing, we decided to spend a bit more and got this from JB..

          https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisio…

The only downside was the 120Hz refresh rate, but after watching all afternoon, I have to say it runs well.

We've set it up, activated UHD content on Netflix, and gotta say we are very very pleased. Overall, much happier than the $1300 65inch Soniq we were looking at. We were tied to getting a TV from JB due to the gift cards and also living in Darwin limited us too!

        • Any dirty screen effect/vertical banding? Watch a show with a light background and panning sky to check. Many reports of banding with the Sony TV's but it effects just about every TV, even the LG we have.

    • What is your credit card bank? Did they ask you to send the broken item to them for inspection? I am using ANZ black card and going to claim the insurance as my son accidentally threw a toy to the tv and damaged the screen.

  • Did the 8000C get hdr via firmware upgrade as some guys mentioned in the previous thread?

Otherwise the 49 inch 70C has HDR.

  • +1

Which is better the X7000D or the X8000C?

    • Same thought… they are not much different in price…

  • Guys how is the LG soundbar? I need a basic soundbar for TV, games and streaming music on Bluetooth.
Can I buy this or wait for a better 5.1 deal? Need a decent soundbar with good sound quality. Thanks.

  • As i found on another forum

how about the Sony KD55X8000C it has a firmware update for HDR and its true 120hz

have the KDX558000C it's really good has HDR after a 1 hour long firmware update.

  • sony-kd55x8000c-55-4k-uhd-android-smart-led-lcd looks like sold out.

  • Does the 55-inch fit a hatchback sedan car (compartment extended to the back passenger seats)?

    • I got sony 65" in the back of my hatch a few months ago. Just had to squish myself in to sit later but not an issue

      • Thanks. In store pick up wouldn't be a problem then.

  • old deal here but i went to sony website to check out the specs and if you go to this page
    http://www.sony.com.au/electronics/televisions/x8000c-series…
in the bottom page point no 8 it says with firmware update it can play HDR??
    hmm

  • I'm selling my Fifa 17 and Lego movie xbox one code if anyone is interested pst me
