Just saw this on AliExpress home page. Sale starts tomorrow (Sep 20).
Here are the four models in Australian Dollars.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro - 2Gb RAM +16GB storage $188.81 (1,200 pieces)
Xiaomi 3S Prime - 3Gb RAM +32GB storage $184.67 (600 pieces)
Xiaomi Mi 5 - 3Gb RAM +32GB storage $377.63 (300 pieces)
Xiaomi Mi Max - 3Gb RAM +32GB storage $256.24 (300 pieces)

I am not sure of the price for all the models but the Mi 5 is great price. I bought it for $520 when it was released.

A BIG SORRY to all. Been busy at work and was not able to check till now. Looks like AliExpress has not managed this sale properly. The link I have provided is still not live. However "netsurfer" has provided some links that match with the prices listed above. It may be the same seller. Sorry I do not have time to check it. Have to rush back to work.

    Band 28?

    • +4

No. However, great phones (mi max at least) for the price. I originally was worried about no b28 but glad I didn't let that hold me back. Mi lives it.

      • +3

Don't Global models have Band 28? How do they differ from Chinese ones then?

      • +4

Not an issue in Brisbane, great 4G using Vodafone and Telstra.

    • +2

yes it is. same one that GeekBuying is selling
      http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Official-Global-Vers…

      • +1

Thanks - I just couldnt resist being the first to ask the "b28" question….

        • +13

If there's ever an Ozbargain musical group, i hope they call themselves "Band 28"

  • +6

    $4 off from aliexpress -> https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/265775
$2 off from the seller (or $4 off with the MI5)
    7% or 7.5% cashback

I think it is possible to unlock the band 20 and 28 if the chinese version use the snapdragon chipset but as always, there is a risk.

    • +1

Yes, remember current CR cashback on AliExpress is 7% https://www.cashrewards.com.au/search/aliexpress

    • +7

It is NOT possible, do not spread wrong information. Once you tampered with NV setting, you will NOT be able to enable it back. You will even lose your 4G bands. Make sure you do QCN file back up before trying anything and better do not tampered with it because it won't work. This is a warning for those who wants to try based on your "thinking" it will work. I have damaged 2 phones to test it.

  • +1

great price for the mi max, great phone too. Battery life is amazing, when I use my S6 after mi max, feels like a pos

    • +1

Great price indeed, Finally time to upgrade from my Sony Xperia Z Ultra.

    • +1

      I agree, using it now.

MIUI8 is alright but if it had a decent CM it would be perfect.

  • +1

Any thoughts on Xiaomi Mi5 vs. Nexus 5x from a camera perspective? Hardware-wise the Mi5 looks extremely good

    • +1

Stock camera is decent, cm camera slightly worse until kernel optimised

  • +2

Good price on Mi Max, my mum uses it now as she needs a big phone and the battery is surprisingly good.
Mi5 has decent camera too but probably not there at same level as iphone 6s or Huawei p9.

    • +1

For those worried about that, or are interested in Roms etc.

The Redmi Note 3 Pro (ie the snapdragon redmi note 3) now has an official Cyanogenmod rom.

      • Mine is Mi4 LTE, and no official support from Cyanogenmod. Bad luck :(

        • @mckennal: That is for non-LTE Mi4. Mine is LTE one

        • @tadinhah:
My wife has a mi4 with LTE and it's a cancro. Is yours the "CT" version (as opposed to my wife's "CU")? If so, that would make sense as to why there's no CM.

        • @mckennal: My Mi4 model number is Mi 4LTE. I checked it in settings -> about phone. Not sure what is CT and CU. So confusing

    • +1

As I understand it this has been fixed in recent versions of the official ROMs (v7.2 and later of the global rom). I checked my recent weekly ROM and it's not affected (AFAICT).

      http://www.itpro.co.uk/security/26908/ibm-discovers-miui-vul…

      • The problem is that it looked like an intentional backdoor.

        • I disagree, they (Xiaomi) don't need a back door. As the manufacturer and signer of the ROM they could allow far simpler doorways into the system. The problem with that particular security flaw was it allowed others to obtain admin level access to the phones.

        • @mckennal: The backdoor is pretty damn simple. Ping update server with your devices IMEI(and other info) every 24 hours then install new APK if desired.
This makes it incredibly easy for a targeted backdoor based on the IMEI number of your phone.

  • +1

And official cm is likely not far off the mi5 with the kernel being released.

Hopefully this global edition allows b28 to be unlocked on current models. The current method of obtaining b28 only last's until you reboot apparently.

I'm very happy with my mi5 (running cm13, miui sucks)

    • Is the quality of the camera as good with CM as MIUI?

      • +1

Cm is currently slightly worse, but the official kernal (from xiaomi) was only just released to the modding community.

In the very near future the cm camera will be on par and excel beyond miui.

Its still quite good currently, don't get me wrong

    • A Mi5 with official CM13 and band 28 would be perfect.

  • What's the difference Mi 5 vs Mi Max apart from price?

    • +1

Screen size i believe is the major difference.

      http://m.gadgets.ndtv.com/xiaomi-mi-max-3487-vs-xiaomi-mi-5-…

    • Apart from screen size and bigger battery in Mi Max Mi5 has a way better processor, Mi max has expandable storage Mi5 doesn't. Camera not sure if they are different (both 16mp) apart from Mi5 having OIS, Mi mAx has 4mp front camera and Mi5 5mp.

  • +1

The Redmi Note 3 Pro has 3gbs of ram not 2

Edit: Sorry just realized there were 2 versions of it. I was gonna go for it then realized $180 was for the 2gb version.

  • Does anyone have Xiaomi phones in Darwin? How does the reception go? Can you get 4G connection?
I want to buy this phone and I'm just worried if I can use the 4G in Darwin. Thank you

    • Was using a redmi note 3, snapdragon 650 version on Optus and Telstra in Darwin and it worked perfectly. No issues in Darwin or Palmerston

      • Omg thank you. That ease my mind. So there is no problem in call quality? getting calls and sending calls?

        • No, not at all. It ran 4g in the same places that my old Samsung note 5 does.

  • Can't you get the Mi Max and this price usually?

    • +3

No, I've been watching it and usually you can get it for AUD300 with a good seller and that's not including shipping

  • I am amazed! If it is in USD, isn't they are around that mark usually? Just today I nearly bought Mi5 for AUD $475. and that too 64Gb version. Thanks to ebay 15% discount.

I stand corrected. It starts tomorrow. And it will be 370 AUDs

    • +1

If you get the Mi5 from Aliexpress like Goldway or top one, or vendor like Geekbuying, the Mi5 64gb can be obtained for $430.

  • +1

The Xiaomi phones look really cool.

If only stores have them on display to demo before you buy.
That could sway me over to Andriod with these prices.

    • +1

No band 28 and gets trickier on dual SIM models ….some are ony 2 G on second Sim and that is being turned off in 2017, so dual Sim becomes single Sim.

      • Some Xiaomi phones do support dual 3g/4g but its not easy to find this info or there misinformation.

        Cheers

  • Wish they make a model that supports B28. Currently a happy Mi4i (MIUI8) owner on Aldimobile (Telstra) in Perth. Experiencing some calls not reaching phone or straight to voicemail, and I don't know if it has anything to do with lack of B28 support. I personally think B28 support is important for Telstra's 4GX plan. Fantastic price for the Mi5, but I may wait to see if they do a Mi5x (or MIUI8.x) that supports the band.

    • They do, The Redmi note 3 pro just came out with a Taiwan release, which contains every band we need + band 20.

      • Interesting, is there any kind of identification / model number you could give to help me identify the Taiwan version - hate to buy the wrong one!

    • That's not the issue with band 28 because 4g only offer data service (there's Volte doing voice call but it is a new feature only available in newer high end phone at the moment). So buying this phone with band 28 or not doesn't make a difference.

    • B28 is LTE and not currently used for voice unless you have VoLTE enabled. Check your 3G bands and coverage.

    • I'm also on the telstra network and I'm experiencing the same thing with my Nexus 5 and an iPhone5. So I think it's more of a network issue than the frequency on the phone.

    Hi Rep
any specials with 3gb variant of the Redmi Note 3 Pro?

    • OP isn't a rep ;)

    • seems to be 20% off exactly the same as the 2gb version (just different options). slightly cheaper than geekbuying or gearbest.

  • +3

What timezone are they basing the 20th off? I want to be online at the time when it goes on sale.

    • Probably the same as aliexpress: UTC -7 or Pacific time (PDT)

  • -3

Price are not that great.. Also whoever is planning on buying, suggest paying for expedited shipping, otherwise you would be waiting for about 4 weeks… And by the time prices come down anyway.

    • Interestingly it says, DHL may require custom clearance for 95% of the time.

      • +2

That's because DHL won't try to sneak it past.

But this should get through customs without issue.

  • Hi guys.

I'm a total newb to these Chinese phones.

I've done some reading, and understand these phones use MIUI.

One thing that is not clear to me is, is this phone an Android phone that will allow the use of Google Play to download / install all the apps Android has?

Does this phone have compatibility issues with many apps?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm slowly learning about going outside of Samsung / LG.

    • Yes to your first question and no to the 2nd.

  • +1

Bonus future proofing for when the 2G networks go away:

The Xiaomi Mi Max is listed on the whirlpool wiki as a working dual 3g/4g phone

    http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/dual_sim_4g3g_phones

    • With the latest firmware update, RMN3 also has 4G/3G dual standby.

      • Can you link me with more details?

        • I am using one myself.

        • @samehada:Thanks. What Miui version you have got?

        • @samehada: Does it support any USA GSM LTE Bands?

        • @pyramid:The latest Global Dev ROM

  • +1

Very interested in the mi max but it doesn't support band 28. It's a bit annoying really because ive done research but I'm still not sure if band 28 is important for me.

    • I feel the exact same way, but decided to give it a crack anyway. Plenty of people around with these phones and they work fine.

    • +1

You won't really notice the difference in metropolitan area, most of the time you will just connect to LTE 1800.

  • Trying my luck, fingers crossed that they actually come with the English packaging/manual and the official Global ROM as described on the page. Thanks for the heads up!

  • +1

Mi 5 is currently listed for even cheaper ($272) than their promo price from this same seller
    https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Original-Xiaomi-Mi5…

    • Yeah USD.

    • That's the chinese version, the one OP listed is the Global version which is usually more expensive.

      • Don't you know it is the same. All you need to do is flash Global ROM either by unlocking bootloader or EDL mode.

  • +16

No sale for me. It has that ridiculous legacy headphone jack taking up all that space.

    • +3

appreciate your courage for speaking up

  • Any idea what time the sale starts?
    Thank you

  • any idea what time the sale starts?
    I want Mi Max

  • Any ideas on when this sale will go live? Might get a 3S Prime, battery life and performance looks amazing for the price, and in a reasonable sized phone.

  • Looking to grab the 3S Prime. Cant seem to select the standard unit and add it to the cart.

Keeps asking me to select a bundle. When I click on 'standard' it doesn't work. If I select any other bundle (eg. Add film)it gets added to the cart !!

    Anyone having the same trouble.

  • The prices have substantially gone up. Pro 3 was $129.99 and now it is $139.99

  • 21 Sep XiaoMi will have new line up products release. We will see what is coming up.

    • Damn, oh well. That's always the game, as soon as you buy a product, something better will come along in the next few days… :)

    • might be better to wait for the next sale.
Oh well, I'll see if I can get the Max, if not then we'll see what tomorrow brings

  • Has anyone able to buy any phone? The prices are quite different from the deal.

    • Yeah the deal doesn't appear to be live yet unfortunately.

  • +1

Will probably go live when I'm too busy to check.

    • That seems to different seller from the link posted by OP. AliExpress is a mess. I was thinking to buy Mi Max.

    • I may be wrong but for me "global ROM" means non chinese ROM/software with gapps and I couldn't find the bands B20 B28.
The size is also not correct: 150 instead of 152 for the global version (the taiwanese version is a little bit longer and heavier).

      • The phone does not support B20 or B28 officially. There appears to be ways to change / unlock LTE bands.
Global ROM, basically, the screenshot shows quite a number of languages. The Chinese ROM version has only 3 languages in the Setup (the Chinese ROM is smaller in size, has more Chinese apps, global ROM replace those apps with Google apps).

Wasn't aware there was a Taiwanese version of the phone.

    • +1

Any idea what the difference is between the Redmi 3 Pro Prime and the Redmi 3S Prime?

  • I think this deal should be removed.

It is not cheaper than the usual pricing on Aliexpress.

NOTE: Prices do not include DHL delivery.

Nothing special here, there are similar prices on the other big sellers.

    Also:

anrdoezrs.net’s server DNS address could not be found.

  • is this live or not? what about the link netsurfer posted above guys? I'm confused …..
