Waeco 38l CF40 Camping Fridge Freezer & Cover Pack Grey $599 @ Anaconda Stores

32

Needed a Fridge for a trip up north WA.

Not the $479 + $9.99 shipping deal from a couple of weeks ago (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/262834), but if you needed a camping fridge now, this is passable at $200 off the RRP. Slightly better than Ebay and you can walk into the store to get it.

  • Don't buy at this price. But if you have to at least use this to save $10

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/159579

  • Why don't buy
Was looking at 40 ltr Engel on special at tentworld for $1200 and 3year warranty
So 3 ltr smaller for half the price seems good?
+ a free cover that Engel wants $150+ for

    • I got one from Anaconda a couple weeks ago now, was under $500 with the eBay discount. Its generally around $700-800 or so. But I did find one place online at $629. Often the lower prices are without cover though, mine came with it but I cant recall if the $629 was without, I think it was without cover.

At $599, its not a bad purchase.

What about Aldi special buys tomorrow?

$499 Danfoss 40L comes with cover (I guess!), pretty good deal!

    • Yea.any suggestions guys?is this gud deal?

I wouldn't unless you want to drain your battery. It's average current draw is 3.75amps. The waeco is 0.87amps.

        • Same compressor as this so power will be very similar.

        • Same compressor so similar power consumption

        • I've used that aldi fridge. It doesn't draw 3.75a in normal use, that's probably the max when cooling down.
Based on what I've seen it draws closer to 1a.

          @tanksinatra:
I don't know why i'm being negged. Look up the pdf instruction manual for the aldi version and again for the waeco.

The "Stirling 40L" specifically states in the manual that the average current draw is 3.75amps

The "Waeco 40L" specifically states in the manual that the average current draw is 0.87amps.

The Aldi brand uses more power.. who cares about what the motor is (although it does play a part), the insulation and materials used to construct the fridge/freezer will have an impact on it's ability to maintain a temperature. So they probably both consume roughly the same max amperage, but the waeco is better designed and able to retain the cold better, therefor it doesn't use as much power on average.

@Name: Same generic Chinese made fridge now mate, I'd bet that Aldi are saying 3.75A a day.

        • -1
        • @Name: I've personally tested my CF40 at around 3.5A per day on my 134Ah AGM while inside with temps around 19c ambient, Cooling to -2.

Believe what you want and I'll believe my own testing.

        • @XeKToReX:

Yeah, it would depend on the environmental factors.. What i'm saying is that the Aldi brand would perform significantly worse under those same conditions when compared with the CF40.. You can determine that based on the average consumption reported by both models.

If you're so obsessed on proving the manuals wrong, go and buy the aldi brand, put them next to each other and report back. Until then I'm going to base my assumptions on the information provided by the manufacturer. Ie under similar conditions the aldi brand would perform significantly worse.

I have a cfx65dz and it draws much more than what's in the manual, but I also only go camping during summer (ie. really hot days) and set my fridge/freezer to -16c to keep the ice blocks frozen for the kids.

        • @Name: I'm not obsessed with anything, just trying to provide good information to potential buyers based on my own experience.

According to the manuals, the Aldi draws 3.75A and the CF-40 draws 6A.

For anyone considering the Sterling, it's a generic Chinese made fridge, like the CF-40 with a slightly different case, compressor power consumption is going to be very similar. I've personally seen both and could barely tell the difference between them, likely to be similar insulation too being that they are both 16kg.

        • @Name:

If you go on google search for Waeco CF40 manual, you will find CF40 is actually drawing 6.0A @12VDC

          http://www.dometic.com/QBankFiles3/EPiServer/Dometic/US/Manu…

          http://www.rpc.com.au/pdf/waeco_coolfreeze_CF18-60_manual.pd…

          CFX40 is rated at 7.0A@12V

Looks like CF40 at 0.87A/hr is tested with chilled fridge 5C, try testing the fridge again from in/out with room temperature

        • @sam001:

I was about the same thing..

          @XeKToReX:

Thanks for posting up the link but the dometic site is quoting a nominal value, whereas stirling (aldi) quotes an average value. There is a difference. Scroll down the link below until you reach the CF40 to see the average which is comparable to the stirling value (aldi). I believe the nominal value will be the maximum it can pull.

          http://www.waeco.com/QBankFiles3/EPiServer/WAECO/AU/Catalogs…

Again you guys are confusing the motor with it's efficiency of the fridge. The fridge insulation plays a role in the average consumption. The motors are almost identical, but one will use more on average than the other because of the design of the fridge/freezer.

      • No.this model lid warps in the heat. I'd go with Engel or national Luna. Aldi fridge is great too if you need a cheap reliable fridge.

    • Good value at $499 and it does come with a cover.

Anaconda has the 50L one of this (Aldi one) for 599. Should be able to haggle the price down.

Based on my research these are made by primus and have been rebadged and are sold by a few stores

  • You ever try to return anything to aldi after 60 days
    They don't want to know
I'd rather pay the extra $100 for 3 year's warranty
It's why I wouldn't buy second hand either at the ridiculous prices people want
So risky when these things go wrong so often

  • Anaconda & Rays seem to be flogging these CF models at crazy inflated prices. Older model which gave the Waeco a bit of a bad name.
Also starts the Engel vs Waeco debate. I personally have a CFX model and is going well. The CFX models have been out for a long time now and a bit of shopping around will get one at a good price. Try the Waeco factory seconds store?

  • Can anyone comment on what these can hold? I can't convert the 38L into something visual.

Also at Ebay for $595 delivered http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/WAECO-CF-40-Portable-Fridge-Freez…

    • Holds almost a full case of bottled beer. Theres a small cooling section aswell that'll hold some extra's aswell

  • Buy the Aldi version on sale tomorrow for $100 less at $499!, identical machine. Same warranty but easier to get refunds from Aldi.

Unit is good thermo is off but you'll adjust to what it is off by

    • Aldi version includes the cover

$595 at Seabreeze industries with free shipping

  • Interesting discussion, and it was actually the Aldi advert that got me to look at this model. (and the confusing voltage/amps - average vs peak vs efficiency did my head in) - we run of a lightweight solar on some camping we do (Caravan has 3 way (220/12v/gas) dometic, but needed more food space with the kids)…

Maybe I could save that $100 - just had so many bad experiences whit generics lately - especially the rubbish Bunnings is making with its own brands lately.

BTW - the Waeco runs really quietly. It is clearly mass produced, but the quality appears good.
The temperature is set at 5 deg and varies 3 - 7 degrees per the display.

Happy with it, and likely to use this in summer at home occasionally for an extra fridge (outside entertainer)

  • It seems very complicated to start with
Just a matter of having more input than you use?
Complicated by, use, weather, how long you stay without turning over your engine, how long your running when you do, amount of gas you can carry, how many panels you have and whether solar is even practical
I think a little wind generator is a good subsidy
Can learn a lot from the boaties
    Strap it to a tree
A pair of spikes probably wouldn't go astray or a telescopic pole
    For the super keen,
    Oh and deep cycle battery's
Sometimes can be had cheap from the factory, seconds
