Hurr durr someone made a reference to the "religion of peace" in a manner less than totally supportive or positive, better neg them…

Well done PC cucks, it was a legitimate comment, the Maldives are about to go to shit, enjoy it while it lasts.

        Pauline, is that you?

      • About to?

  • It's actually $753 return Sydney?

  • Cheaper than scoot - seems pretty good. Shame Maldives is so expensive once you're there - also all the cheap Sydney Flights are gone.

    • +9

It's not as expensive as you think.

Check airbnb because they relaxed some of the laws to open up tourism.

Last year my wife & I spent 5 nights on a local island for US$150 per night which was inclusive of all meals, non-alcoholic drinks and some basic tourist excursions like snorkeling. The optional extras like swimming with whale sharks were also reasonably prices (US$100 vs US$500 @ hotel). I swam above a whale shark for more than 20-30 minutes on two occasions.

Check out "The Amazing Noovilu" for more details of where we stayed

what, it cost US$100-US$500 to swim with whale shark in Maldive???? you can swim with both whale and shark in Sydney for free from time to time. Do it at your own risk though.

Agree, you can spend $1000 a night and have to pay $50 for soup if you really want to but there are definitely cheaper options in the Maldives!

      • +1

Thanks, definitely changed my impressions about the place.

In the reviews some say that the food was very average, do you have any details?

We stay on a Yacht when we go, its far far cheaper than staying on the Atols
And we can go anywhere we like :)
As for activities, we are already there, just fall out of the boat and have a dive or a surf or fish off the side.
At night, you can party on the boat, or go to anyone of the resort islands, just so long as you ask permission first
Most are more than happy to have you as a guest, so long as you leave by 1am
The yacht has a skipper and chef and a deckhand and an Australian guide :)
Last visit it cost $1350pp for 12days (incl. all meals and soft drink) beer was provided, but you had to pay per can in USD.

So a return flight is about the same as a nights accomodation haha

How long do these sorts of fares remain available for? Hard to be completely impulsive at times!

  • Enjoy seeing the couple winners from If you are the only one!

    • Yeah. The Aegean Sea got too full of winners. I like to think of that line like Running Man movie's Whitman, Price and Haddad. Killian: "WHITMAN, PRICE, AND HADDAD!!! You remember them! There they are now BASKING under the Maui sun."

  • That thumbnail :O

    • See the first comment of this thread. It's a wonder you haven't been shouted down as a "phobe" of some description…

  • Some flights cheaper on Air Asia, eg Perth to Maldives, depart 18 Oct, return 1 Nov $638

  • Close to 30 hours with the stopovers…or am i looking at the wrong ones?

    • +2

No, it's the right ones, if you're departing from the east coast. Singapore airlines from Sydney have a 16 hour there and 15 hour flight back, via Singapore, but it's $1130 per person. Although not having to spend nearly 30 extra hours of my life (difference in return flight lengths) on a plane is worth $375, surely?

  • My imagination draw me a picture of a young hot lady in bungalow in the mid of a sea, suitcase stocked with condoms and plenty of Moёt Champagne with chocolates…
But what shall I do there on my own? As a single guy?

    • I feel you brother

      • I went there on my honeymoon - yes it's a romantic place. But the snorkeling and diving is bloody fantastic.
Still, there are probably better and cheaper places that are less 'honeymoon-y'.

    Wow. Great prices.

    Anyone actually booking.

Flight for two, plus a week at the resort mentioned above and transfers works out to be approx $3200, plus some activities, would end up costing circa $3500-4000.

    Anyone going?

    • I would go with you if you pay.

      • +1

Can't afford it but I'd definitely go back in a heartbeat if I can get the time off work.

  • Tried to book flights..

Dep Melbourne, for a week, either in February or March.

The return flights are a killer - way too long. Or the cost ends up around $1000 on the Etihad website.

Thanks, but no deal for me.

    • +1

but doesn't the post say the sale is for oct-nov?

      • If you click through the link, shows as circa $820.

Not possible to book. Crashes after trying to pay.

  • Can anyone recommend a good place to stay in Maldives?
No budget in mind for now (doesn't mean my budget is unlimited!).
I'm not travelling this year but would like to go perhaps next year, so I'm wondering if anyone got preferred accommodation there.
