    • There's a few others, like Dendy.

      possibly an independent franchise?

  • I can see a tab for recently added small dealers on the map.. Can they add recently removed as well ..All my local eateries gone this time .. Darn

  • -2

This used to be valid for a whole month and was changed to a weekend in the last offer.

    • +2

this is the mini shop small, for a weekend.

The big one last month was in November last year.

  • Rookie question. How do i register ? I have an Amex :/

    • Log into your Amex account or Amex Connect on 13/9 and you should be able to see the offer there.

If you still can't find the offer, come back here and see if OP has put up the manual link for registration. (OP is the legend who puts up manual link whenever the offer is up and running

      • Champion.

        Thanks so much

  • +2

I wonder how accurate the map is. last time the number of shops who either didn't accept amex, or didn't accept it for certain transactions was really annoying. Then there were the ones who we cheeky & suddenly had an Amex surcharge.

    • Not very, it still included some businesses that I've previous complained.

  • All the newsagent I went last time for Opal top ups are now removed from the map

  • Can i use bank issued AMEX card? How many AMEX can I sign up for? And are there any costs?

    • Max 2 Amex issued

    • Yes, this promotion extends to bank-issued Amex cards as well. If you have one, just register for it.

How many AMEX can I sign up for?

With bank-issued, any number I suppose (different banks). With Amex-issued, I used to believe Amex allows 2. Until Dacs pointed out here, that this number is not fixed, but based on the individual's credit risk evaluation.

Most cases I know of get instant approval, without the need to supply evidence, presumably because it is the 1st or 2nd card. If you apply for more than that, maybe Amex will want more evidence, income checks etc.

      And are there any costs?

There are no cost if you sign up for one of the three fee-free Amex cards. Some comparisons of their benefits/reward rates are here. Hope this helps.

    • Read the FAQ on the shopsmall website

  • all the electrical supplies and lighting stores gone too.

  • I'm sure this has been asked plenty times before but I'm only new to Amex.if my partner has a supplementary card and has the option/manual link does he get to use 3 offers too potentially the same 3 offers as me or because its linked to my card only one of us would get the credits. Thanks

    • +3

You must each register for the promotion on your own cards. You can then do 3 x $20 spends on each card and get $10 back per spend.

      • I'm the principal AMEX card holder from CBA and my wife has a supplementary card. However, both our CC numbers are the same - so does that mean we can't register both cards for this offer?

        • I've never seen both numbers the same. But I doubt you will be able to register seperately as registration is done by card number.

        • +4

Correct, you won't be able to.

Dacs, there are a few financial institutions that do this. Westpac is another one that do this.

        • @illumination: can definitely confirm with Westpac. Even the CCV is the same

        • Yeah, I used to have AMEX with CBA and both cards have the same number, now I am with NAB, each card has its own number and I managed to save the offer to both cards individually, I will let you know how that would go when I get back the cashback.

        • +1

@yoyo: I've done it multiple times with primary & supplementary cardholders from previous promos and can confirm you'll get the cashback on both as if they're two completely separate cards.

        • @illumination: Great, thanks mate :)

  • excellent, thanks

  • +1

just curious, do people buy lotto or scratchies at newsagents using the amex small shop offers?

    • My understanding is Newsagents will not accept any credit card payments for the purchase of lotto or scratchies.

      • im certain ive purchased slippicks using my mastercard credit card before, but not amex.
definitely might give it a go.

    • +5

I got $20 worth on the last small shop. Won $24 to so I came out ahead.

  • +3

For Opal card top ups in Sydney, I have found the following shop on the small shops map near Wynyard Station.
    MENZIES NEWSAGENT
14 CARRINGTON STREET, SYDNEY NEW SOUTH WALES 2000

Does anyone know if they actually do top ups?

    • Is that Ezy Mart ?

    • They did last time I went there for this kind of promo.

      • Did they charge a surcharge?

        • $2 most likely

        • +1

          Yes in 2014
It was not participating in 2015

    • I haven't been able to get this to appear on the map.

  • Thanks, OP

  • +1

I'll be visiting Brisbane that week. Any tips on places listed which are good please (primarily restaurants and go-card recharge)? Thanks.

  • -4

Hey guys, I'm a bit slow today so could someone please explain how this deal works? What does it mean?

    • -3

So you don't know anything about Shop Small Amex promo? Please hand in your OZBargain badge of honour and never call yourself an OZBargainer until you could recite the terms and conditions of Shop Small!

  • Is it possible to use the same card 3 times at the same store to get back 3 x $10 or does it have to be 3 different stores?

    • Three different stores

      • Excellent. Cheap sushi this weekend! :D

  • If a place doesn't show on the map but can be found using the "Search by Name" box, would it count for Shop Small?

    • The map shows a maximum of 100 shops and the list on the left only shows details of 10 shops at a time. See the count at the bottom of the list on the left: If it shows "10 of 100" then it means it's not showing you all the shops in the area. Just zoom in until it shows less than 100 to see all of them.

    • Yes.

  • Thanks. Yes, I have already zoomed right in and not all places show which is why I tried the search box. They then appear.

    • Strange. Can you give an example?

      • Type in a location of, say, Toorak Road, South Yarra, Victoria. Zoom in. Only 3 businesses show along Toorak Road - South Press, Boli Australia & Gum Tree.
Now type in Fiesta and the Fiesta Mexican is one of the two options and this is on Toorak Road and now shows on the map.

        • +3

There are dozens of businesses along Toorak Rd.
Check the checkbox "Redo search in this area" at the top right of the map or click "Redo search in this area" if you're already moved the map.
The Fiesta restaurant is there, but the marker is almost hidden behind the marker for Stairs Hairdressing Salon.

        • @Dacs: That's it! Thanks. I hadn't noticed that tick box. That makes things much easier.

        • @Dacs: When I click "Redo search", map refreshes, some show as black dots. Others show as balloons, with a number which corresponds to store description on the left pane. Do places marked with black dots count, for the shop small purposes? Or only the balloons, with store names listed on the left pane? Any confirmation appreciated. Many thanks.

Edit: Rang Amex. Info on this here
