          Malaka

          That's in Malaysia…

        • @jv:

That would be Melaka State. Or the Malacca Strait. I'm sure you could find a malaka in both - but it's still different… ;-)

  • Peak summer time too.

No bargain if you're flying return to Europe. It's $838 return (plus extras, meals, bags, entertainment) which is going to work out much more than RBA all inclusive at $894.

    • +1

True, but those flights are winter vs summer and hopefully this encourages Jetstar or AirAsia to add a european route as well :)

      • These two cities may both be in Europe, but Athens is not that close to London. The deal you've linked to is for London.. it'd kinda be like you're in Europe and there's a deal to New Zealand which you're comparing with a deal to Australia.
      • As OP has pointed out, Summer vs Winter. Summer flights to Europe generally cost more due to weather. Although the Royal Brunei deal is not quite winter, it's towards winter. However the positive of that is it's for an earlier period compared to

i.e. slightly different deals you're kinda comparing apples with oranges. And also, as you said, "if".

  • +1

Rather than Melbourne to Athens, could you not put SYD/MEL/OOL to ATH? Because the $419 is for all 3 cities.
And then you could probably add PER-ATH for $369 too (since you'd probably be shortening the title by using airport codes).

Good find btw. How did you even find this?

    • +3

Good point, updated it to reflect the other routes.

They posted it (briefly) to their FB page, and it was taken off pretty quickly.

  • Hopefully it is Monday (payday) before this goes live.

    Great post.

  • Wow, if I can break up the flights in Singapore this would be awesome deal for Summer time in Europe!

    • Does anyone know if the flight rules permit this?

      • Likelihood pretty much zero.

      • +1

I'd say pretty high actually. You could create two bookings, one to Singapore and one onwards. Usually with these LCC's, there's not much difference between booking two separate legs. Whenever I'm flying Air Asia, I'll stopover in KL for a day or two before heading onwards.

  • +3

Also SIN-ATH one way is SG$288, or just under AU$280, in case you wanted another option flying into SIN.

  • +1

There are some good cruises up that way out of those cities.

  • I dunno how I feel about this yet….pretty excited but worried that I may not end up successfully booking!! The RBA deal is great but only from Melb, this is an excellent price from Sydney albeit one way. I hope the return portion isn't like $2k

  • +1

Ahhh Athens, the armpit of Europe.

  • +2

Interesting that Melbourne to Athens was "unserved route of the week" recently…

    http://www.anna.aero/2016/07/27/athens-melbourne-is-skyscann…

  • Is this a new route?

  • +3

This follows the annoucement of the Airasia KL > Istanbul > Barcelona route.

Seems like the asian LCC carriers are making inroads to Europe. Interesting how they will compete with the European low cost carriers such as Norwegian, fly dubai who are have routes starting to head westwards into the asian LCC heartlands.

I would wait for an Etihad $1000 return deal with free baggage/food.

They have had a multitude of $1k and below return fares to the uk recently plus other eu countries

    Wouldn't torture yourself.

    • +2

Only for cold weather period, not European summer time.

      • I'd try looking for shoulder periods anyway - less crowds, cheaper accom, reasonable flights. Flying Scoot all the way to Europe only to be swamped by crowds sounds like torture to me!

  • im pretty sure this is a great deal. havent flown scoot in years. they still pretty good?

    • They're a LCC, so anything longer than 2-3hrs (for the "average" sized Australian) becomes very uncomfortable very quickly.

      • +2

we had great flights to bangkok (8hrs or so) on Scoot when we flew. the old Singapore Air planes were fine and there was enough room for my lanky ass. that being said, i could have just been excited to get to bangkok for under $400 return and would have accepted anything. also 8 hours is a lot different from 19-20 hours in the air.

  • Just a heads up, this deal may go live at 12PM today so if you are looking to book don't go off to lunch yet.

  • deal active, needs promo code GREEKON

  • Ela re malaka!!!!!

Just be weary that you won't get bags and food included with this deal. I've added some prices in the description but from Perth it's $72.00 per passenger, each way for 1 checked bag & $137 for 1 checked bag + food per passenger, each way. So $882 Return with bags. $1,011 with meals + 1 checked bag. So if you are just looking to travel to Europe you may want to checkout some of the full service airlines that included the baggage and food fees such as Vietnam & Royal Brunei.

Just be weary that you won't get bags and food included with this deal.

The Greek grandmother in the seat next to you will have brought plenty of food to share…

    • Wary is the weary traveller.

  • Flight must originate from Australia it seems. I can't get the same price one way from Athens.

  • Looks like there's no option to opt out of seat selection (and the fee)!!! Anyone tried without selecting seat? Standard seat is $12 each!!!

  • Oops

  • Internal Server Error
    Sorry, but something went wrong!

Edit: Okay so it looks like you can't book seat only fares unless you search without the coupon code.

Meals an extra $65?!? I'll be expecting caviar souvlaki for that price…

  • Only one type of person travels with no luggage and no "food" in their stomach. After adding bags and meals ($50 a meal better be a damn good wrap) totals up 1,335.97 AUD. No deal here.

    • +3

This is entirely possible. If you are flying to Greece in the height of summer you can easily travel with one hand luggage case as it will be shorts, t-shirt, thongs etc weather. As for the food, have a big meal at the departure airport, big meal in Singapore + buy snacks to bring on board.

    • +2

Yes, a sensible person with a bit of common sense…

  • Damn, the flight timings are horrible. Also impossible to book longer stopover in Singapore, multi city only lets you put in two flights, and the promo code doesn't work (in multi city).

  • If you need to add food & bag I'd rather go with Qatar from Perth. A random date I tried 1/11 - 8/11) was $1156 all up.
MUCH better connection times too (only 1.5 hours layover each way).
For such a long haul this it ends up being a very small saving to go with the low cost airline.

    • +2

But that's not a fair comparison as your dates are for winter time in Greece. Searching for summer time in Greece with Qatar has a fare of $2,125 pp return (4/7/16 - 18/7/16).

  • Scoot Website Not Responding when i try to book

  • Flights are seriously crap value now. It's only worth it at 420 each way by the time you add leg room, time day change option, and 6 or 12 hour hotel booking for the 21 hour layover on the return trip, and headaches and fees if you need to change your plans because you booked a year in advance. Now that 420 each way is either 600 or 700 before all the top ups just mentioned ? Rort
