      I go to Europe for two weeks at a time every two ears or so, to visit family and friends. Just don't want to spend the entire annual leave on that.

        as an ex-teacher - standard NSW school holidays I called 2/2/2/5 - total 11 weeks/year holidays

        in 2025 long hols ending about 31/1, then including weekends, 2 weeks around Apr 12-27, July 5-20, and Sep 27-Oct 12, before 5 weeks from Dec 20 - at least that's what about my calendar indicates …

    Feel like it has been these prices for ages. been watching for the last couple months and it is the same. Ended up pulling the trigger on tickets to London 3 weeks back for this pricing

    Do your own research.
    I use Google Flights and watch reviews on YouTube.

    Tips:
    - prices are standard for off peak airfares to Europe (Turkish, Etihad, Qatar).
    - Qatar mostly using 777s - old and noisy planes, not particularly comfortable economy seats.
    - Etihad Lite has no checked bags (but cheap to add a bag for $18).
    - Etihad can add 35" extra legroom seats, extra ~10cm makes a big difference - for under $500 extra, it's like an OzBargain premium economy.
    - Qatar and Emirates probably more consistently professional than Etihad.
    - Always book direct so it's possible to manage seat selection, flight changes and use promo codes such as 10% off Qatar with Mastercard.

      I sometimes find that the codes for 10% off like the Mastercard deal can actually make it more expensive for some reason…..so always check prices before using the codes

    I fly Qatar out of Melbourne to Doha once or twice a year (then on to Belgrade). The flight is always packed and they fly old 777s. It's a very loud, uncomfortable, 14 hour slog. But YMMV. The 5 hour flight from Doha to Belgrade on a small A320 is significantly more comfortable, even in economy.

      There's not much competition on that route… For us in Perth it's either Qatar or Emirates with one stop. Qantas direct flights to Europe are too expensive unfortunately.

    Mrs B and I went to Europe late last year with Qatar, they were fine. Service was excellent and even the 777 was quite comfortable.
    Doha is one of the world's best airports, but it is expensive to buy anything (a coffee turned out to be A$11, but it was pretty good by airport standards)

    wonder why it's expensive ex Perth it should be cheaper as less flying time to Doha vs east coast? anyhow I note a lot of Chinese carriers are ramping up flights to Europe ex Sydney/Melbourne we only get China Southern in Perth and the connections are quite poor/non workable to Europe and Cathay Pacific..

    SQ,MH are the way to go at the moment to Europe ex West Coast and QF is quite expensive on the non-stop flights to FCO, LHR and CDG

      More premium planes on the Perth route. A380/A350 vs 777 on Melbourne route.

      Perth is a much better choice for an extra $200 considering the plane types.

    Looks like post July 2025, Qatar will switch to B777-300s ex PER/BNE to Doha, as Virgin is also introducing flights to DOH. Interestingly it says VA15 and VA21 operated by Qatar airways? so VA are not using their own metal??
