Value Pack updates August 2016
We are pleased to announce we are making improvements to some of our Value Packs from 17th August 2016 to provide you with even more value for money.

The changes apply to our L, XL and XXL Value Packs and the new inclusions are shown in the comparison table below, but here is a summary of the changes:

More value, no increase in price

International minutes
From 17th August, the L Value Pack will come with international calls.
100 minutes to selected international numbers included, for no extra price.
Increased data
The XL pack will come with 6GB of data included (that's 1GB extra for no extra charge).

The XXL pack will now come with a huge 8GB of data included, with no change to the price.

Data rollover
We are excited to announce a brand new feature on some of our plans that will help you get even more value from your ALDImobile service.

For L, XL and XXL Value Packs purchased from 17th August, unused data will rollover at the end of the expiry period; provided you immediately recharge with a Value Pack of the same, or higher, value.

Unused data will rollover for 1 expiry period (and the same unused data can only be rolled over once) and will be used up first before your other data allowances.
Important information:

If you purchase a Value Pack before 17th August 2016, you will receive the current plan inclusions and data will not rollover.
If you have auto-recharge set on your pack and your recharge occurs before 17th August 2016 you will receive the current plan inclusions, all recharges that occur on the 17th August 2016 or after this date will automatically include the new plan inclusions and data rollover

Not a big mobile data user, and have been more than happy with their $15/month S value pack.

Highly recommend AldiMobile (assuming you get good Telstra wholesale coverage)

    • +1

      Same here.

    • I was with Telechoice on Telstra wholesale 3G only and it was, surprisingly atrocious) - I get better signal on Vodafone through TPG of all people…….

      • +10

Aldi has access to Telstra 4G wholesale network, which makes a surprisingly big difference in my experience

        • +1

That does not come as a surprise at all. Since 4G has been introduced, in many areas Telstra and Optus has put most of their money and infrastructure in building up their 4G service/towers/4G MHz frequency upgrades and doing little improvements to their 3G. In fact, they often even re-frame some 3G towers to 4G.

Unless you have a phone capable of picking up all the local 3G as well as 4G bands with the right bands for your area, you will be getting a reduced/slow/no signal, especially in regional/rural areas.

Vodafone has been building up their 3G as well as 4G coverage and speed in many places, catching up and even surpassing either Optus or Telstra, sometimes even both in some areas.

Saying that, there is ample room in Australia for all Telcos to not only improve speeds, but also coverage in many places.

      • Telechoice has had 4G with Telstra wholesale for some months now. Signal excellent in Melbourne and elsewhere in Vic when I have travelled.

        • Too late they lost me, maybe I'll go back one day but the 3G services wewre (surprisingly!) appalling even close to the CBD.

      • +3

Why on earth would anyone neg you for relaying your experience? I really don't get it.

        • +1

Yeah, I have noticed this too. People here get negged just for sharing their own true experience. I guess, it's because when someone (real) experience doesn't match with the person's (who is negging) experience, they neg you. Which I think is not a valid reason for negging anyway.

  • +1

Thanks OP! Looks like I'll be jumping to Woolworths mobile.though Prefer their plans and you get 10% off through Woolworths rewards. It includes data rollover!

    • +2

Isn't that with staff only though? Normal members don't get that discount.

      • No everyone with an everyday rewards card gets it

        • Oh, that's the prepaid I'm guessing? I was thinking of the s7 edge 24 month deal that ends tonight.

        • @ChillBro: correct, prepaid only

    • -5

Woolies mobile doesn't have the network Aldi has.

    • Same here, Woolies gives you 3GB of data with "data rollover" for $27/month (10% off through Woolworths rewards). So for extra $2, you get an extra 1GB data.

      • +1

The international rates are vastly different though. Aldi $25 plan and Woolies $27 both include $100 of international calls, but Aldi charges $0.10/minute to North America where Woolies charges $1/minute. That's 10 times the price!

        • Sure it does, but Woolworths provides more international countries and I can call Croatia for example. Whereas ALDI mobile doesn't have this listed so it's not included. I guess it depends on your needs.

  • +12

Mentioned this yesterday on the Vaya deal. Paying $35 a month with Jeenee Mobile gives much better value if Optus is good for you.

    • 8gb Data
    • Unltd calls,sms
    • $300 international mins
    • Free sim and set up.
    • No contract
    • 4G
    • All profits go to charity.

    https://www.jeenee.org.au/products/sim-packs/

    • -4

      Where's the roll over?

How does the 'charity' use the funds to benefit people in 'need'?

      • +3

No rollover of data and profits go to people with disabilities

        • Aldi has one up on Jeenee because of they also have roll over

        • +8

@lovepeoplenotmoney: It would be if they had the same rates but Aldi charge $10 more a month for the same 8GB. Who in their right mind would pay that just for the benefit of rollover?

        • @gooddealmate: I'm thinking about getting my dad onto the $25 plan. He doesn't use nearly as much data as I do, so this will eventually build up and can be used whenever.

        • +3

          @koom:

It only rolls over to the following month then you lose it.

    • Optus

    • +6

What's better than Aldi for the given coverage and speed?

      • +1

Both Boost and Telstra could give you better/wider/faster coverage than the Aldi part of 3G/NextG/4G coverage. For many would not make any difference, for others it could mean the difference between getting a signal or not Full Stop. Could also be much faster for regional/rural areas too. Speaking from experience.

    • +5

Why not share and provide something useful?

        • +4

Linking to an expired deal? $27 is the price now compared to $25 Aldi? I wasn't the one saying people are paying "full price".

        • +2

@tessel: Starter packs are half price more often than not in one of the big stores, or much less than half price on eBay (I'm using a $40 Vodafone plan right now which I got for $12 on eBay).

Obviously most people wouldn't want to change plan every month, but it's a lucrative and simple procedure (if I was offered some extra work at $28 for 15 minutes I'd certainly take it - same principle!).

        • +1

@tessel: I think he means he submitted that deal. Not that it is current.

        • @callum9999:
Yup, I see that. Activate, then something like this? You need to port out the number to another provider and then port back in each month to take advantage of the half price packs you buy? If that is right, then you need a sim to port out to. That wouldn't be a problem if you had free sims to port out to as you renew each month. If you don't care about keeping your number, than obviously it would just be a case of throw away the old sim and activate the new one. However, it's more than likely that I am missing something.

        • +3

@tessel: You can port at the same time as activation (for the networks I've used anyway). You also don't need to port in and out onto a free sim, just stock up and alternate between networks. E.g. Buy 5 Optus and 5 Vodafone sims then alternate between them month by month.

I'm adept with computers so it literally takes me 5 minutes to fill out an activation form. If it takes you longer or you're a high earner (unfortunately my time is not worth more than $250 an hour!) then of course it may not be worthwhile.

        • @callum9999:
Yup, got it. Thanks. Buy discounted sims from two different networks, then each month port back and fort between networks. That is definitely doable if you live in an area where Optus and Vodafone work great. Obviously also possible on Telstra but Telstra sims expire sooner than other networks (or so I thought) and I guess you'd be stuck with Boost and Telstra discounted sims only. Anyway, thanks for the info. I do agree if you lived in a metro area and were a heavy mobile user, this definitely would be a way to save some money.

  • +3

Depends how often you are willing to change ….to save $2 pm I can't be bothered setting up portals , new billing, etc, etc, etc

Guess it's the difference between a small saving and a compelling large saving .

    • +21

I'll take your ozbargain badge off you tyvm

  • +6

Been with Aldi on the $20 plan for a few months, happy with them so far. The data rollover is a sweet addition as well.

    • Same here. I think that data rollover does not apply to us.

  • +5

Looks like more and more mobile providers create their the cheapest Unlimited plan(Unlimited call&sms national-wide, DATA quote from 1G to 2G variable) to $25.
Hello mobile, this time ALDI-mobile followed.
    The former criterion is $30.
Hope $15/month Unlimited plan coming soon!

    • +1

Here already, Kogan mobile if you pay 3 months ahead.

  • -4

Can anyone tell if Coles/Woolies sell Aldi Mobile recharge vouchers as well, or you buy them through Aldi only ?

Similarly, does Coles sell Woolworths mobile recharge ?

    • +4

They only sell their own, there's no reason that they'd support their competitors. Can't walk in to Telstra for an Optus recharge either.

      • -4

Can still walk into a Woolies and ask for Optus/Telstra etc recharges

      • +1

Of course there is - money. While if makes sense for them not to sell it, it's not the stupid question that you imply and many businesses do similar things.

    • +11

Also does anyone know if I can get Pizza Hut to place my order at Domino's?

    • +3

You could easily do it in aldi app

    • +3

Aldi recharges are free from Ford dealers when you buy a Commodore.

  • Some good value plans.

  • Do I need to actually go into an Aldi store to buy sim/recharge sim?

    • +1

You can do auto recharge but you need to buy the SIM card in a physical store unless you can get someone to send you one.

      • +5

You can buy the SIM online at https://www.aldimobile.com.au/starterpack

There is no shipping charge, so it's the same price as buying it in the store ($5 and it comes with $5 of credit).

        • +1

They took almost 2 weeks to ship me my SIM. Pop into a store if you're in a hurry :)

        • I still haven't received my SIM that I ordered 4 weeks ago. Aldi customer service is appalling. Get a sim pack in store if you can. Nano sims aren't available in store though

        • @kati: yes they are. Stores have one in newer looking packaging that can be broken into all 3 sizes

    • +7

Can order a SIM online for $5. The $5 is credited to your account so it's effectively free to get it delivered to you.

    • No, you can do it online

  • Would the current Boost Mobile coverage be equal to what is on offer from Aldi being they are potentially both Telstra wholesale?

    • I believe the coverage is identical - at least in Tasmania that has been the case.

      • Yep, so much better after being able to access 4G even though signal strength is abysmal (as in poor, still works fine though but probably sucks more battery) around Hobart on standard 4G (non 4GX band phone). I've been with ALDIMobile for 3 years, it works, can't be bothered with the hassle of changing as the current M plan suits me fine. Could probably even downgrade to S.

    • From my understanding Boost Mobile coverage is better, possibly because Boost is owned by Telstra. I recall Boost covers a greater percentage of the population.

I'm interested to hear if Aldi and Woolworths coverage is identical (both using Telstra wholesale).

    • +1

Boost/Telstra used to be the only ones providing the full speed 3G/NextG service. Not sure if this has since changed and if they all provide equal 4G service/speeds.

I have heard from Telstra Mobile Technicians that even within Telstra there is a pecking order for mobile connections and speed starting with big business plans, then contracts, Telstra/Boost prepaid, then Network re-sellers.

  • +2

As AldiMobile uses Telstra wholesale, how does it practically compare to a "direct Telstra customer" coverage? Any knows quirks?

    • +2

The coverage feels very similar, but I do find I seem to go through data quicker on the Aldi plan than I did when I was directly with Telstra.

  • -1

No deal as very less international call allowance.

    • Might be enough for some people.

  • +1

which countrys are included in the international calls?

    Nvm found it

  • Silly question, is this Aldi deal a month to month post paid or is it prepaid? I'm with tpg now for $19.95 for 1.2gb data and some calls inclusions.

    • It's month to month prepaid, you can set up auto recharge and keep using it.

  • What do you guys recommend for data use in an IPAD - month by month commitment only?

I dont make calls but do use data when not at home.

I currently use AMAYSIM $9.90 for 1gb of data over 30 days.
    https://www.amaysim.com.au/mobile-plans/amaysim-mobile-broad…

I hope there is a better deal

    • I was just thinking its cheaper with Aldi to buy a phone plan and use the data than a data only plan (eg 4GB for $30 or 6GB with rollover for $35)

For you it depends on how much data you use. For example Telstra has 16GB for $140 and 2 years expiry (https://www.telstra.com.au/tablets/prepaid-for-tablets#recha…) which is cheaper than your current plan, just. I'm sure other providers have similar offers if you are willing to pay more up front

  • If only they allowed international roaming then I would change from smelstra.

  • +1

Does anyone have the Kogan small plan for $16.95 for 30 days with unlimited calls/SMS and 1gb data on Vodafone? How does it compare value wise to Aldi's small plan or medium plan? Is the issue the Vodafone network?

  • +1

Aldi mobile is the best for BYOD

  • How easy is it to get a test SIM and try out Aldi? What's the min spend to test for a month?

    • +2

$5 starter credit lasts 365 days

  • Does anyone know how fast upload and download speed ofthe Aldi Mobile network is?

  • couldn't find the expiry days for these plan? 30 days?

    • Yep.

  • +1

Just ported 4 numbers from Boost. Boost just INCREASED their priced when all other providers are increasing the value.

  • is this prepaid like? or post paid, bpay?

    • +2

      Prepaid like

      • Thanks!

  • Cheers for the heads up.

Going to port my personal number from Boost and test out the coverage. I do alot of regional travel in WA SA and NT so it will be good to see if the coverage/speed is comparable.

I'm thinking it will be the same.

    • +1

I recently ported 2 numbers from Boost to Aldi and there's honestly been no difference at all, aside from the cost. This is in Adelaide metro.

  • +1

vaya have released a new unlimited S package for $14.50/month, unlimited talk/SMS/MMS, 1Gb data/mo but must prepay total $174 in advance:

    http://www.vaya.net.au/?option=Mobile

    uses optus network though.

    • 30 cents cheaper than Kogan. Does anyone know if Vaya are behaving themselves since Amaysim bought them?

  • +1

No good for me ,Philippines is not on there international number list of countries.

    • If anyone knows of any that do include… Please let us know

      • +1

Optus month to month does but $60 a month for 7 gig and 500 min to international includes Philippines. It was unlimited before February but now 500 mins.

  • Good otherwise.

  • Can anyone confirm what network ALDI mobile uses? From what I understand it is the Telstra 3G network? Am I misinterpreting this or is it only 3G speeds?

"Medion Australia Pty Ltd. trading as ALDImobile uses part of Telstra’s 3G mobile network. The mobile product of ALDImobile provides a 3G coverage footprint of 98.5% of the Australian Population covering 1.3 million square kilometres. Outside the 3G coverage footprint, customers will revert to 2G coverage and speeds. The combined 2G and 3G footprint covers 98.8% of the Australian population."

    https://www.aldimobile.com.au/help/?s=what+network&submit=#/…

    Edit

    Here is the contradicting information

"Medion Australia Pty Ltd. trading as ALDImobile uses part of Telstra’s 4G mobile network. The mobile product of ALDImobile provides a combined 4G and 3G coverage footprint of 98.5% and a 4G coverage footprint of 92% of the Australian population covering 1.3 million square kilometres. 3G handsets will only receive 3G coverage."

    https://www.aldimobile.com.au/help/?s=what+network&submit=#/…

    • +1

That's not contradictory, both statements are true. Not everyone has a 4G phone.

    • +1

It's 4G. They are not contradictory but the first only tells part of the story now. Obviously hasn't been updated since they went 4G.
