Vaya has announced some new pricing and plans which are even cheaper than before.

All plans listed below have unlimited standard talk, SMS & MMS and monthly included data billed per KB.

The cheapest plans are the 12 month plans or you can choose a month to month plan…

12 month plans:

Unlimited S: $174 upfront ($14.50/month) for 1GB
Unlimited M: $240 ($20/month) for 2GB
Unlimited L: $288 ($24/month) for 3GB
Unlimited XL: $396 ($33/month) for 7GB

Month to month plans:

Unlimited S: $16/month for 1GB
Unlimited M: $22/month for 2GB
Unlimited L: $26/month for 3GB
Unlimited XL: $36/month for 7GB

Use coupon code vaya3 for a further $3 off month to month plans (for new orders until 23 August 6 September). These monthly prices may be the same as what they had before but now come with unlimited standard talk.

If you can find something cheaper they have a price beat guarantee.

PS: I realise there is some hate out there for Vaya and I have never used them personally, but I think these deals are decent and will save many people money? Other telcos have their issues too. I'd rather pay these rates than $100/month.

Update: Promo extended from 23/8 to 6/9

    Here for the comments.

    • Late to the conversation, but this is half the price of other unlimited call plan if data isn't important to you. If I'm wrong please tell me who else has unlimited calls for less than $20

      • My comment was in regarding their reputation for poor service. If cheapest is always better then I guess you'd say dodo is a good ISP?

        • Thanks. I wasn't really replying to you. I just watched to be near the top of the page otherwise nobody would see it :)

"if cheapest is always better" isn't exactly what I said. But this is Ozbargain after all!

        • @tightwad:

Wow! Dodo ain't cheap. Cheapest unlimited voice call is $40!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • +26

Haters going to hate and I'm one!

    • And I'm two! Pricing is not a saving when considering the value of your time, having to deal with their (lack of) customer service. Spintel is fairly close on pricing and their support has been great. Optus student deal is pretty good if you can get it too.

Edit: things may be different now that they have been bought by amaysim. Or may not…

      • +1

Hey guys, sorry to hear that you didn't have a good time here at Vaya - we're certainly aware of the issues around customer experience. We still have a ways to go but we feel we've been able to learn a lot from amaysim and have made a heap of positive changes already, with many more to come. Check out some of the changes below:

        1. Removal of the $10 setup fee
        2. Introduced a free delivery option
        3. Removal of the $30 disconnection fee
        4. Introduced a Price Beat Guarantee that applies to new and existing customers

We are continuing to work on our customer experience, particularly around things like billing (making it easier to understand) but would love to hear further from you about what changes you would like to see?

Gizmodo did a write up on the recent plan changes and drop in TIO complaints if you're interested in checking it out http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2016/08/vaya-now-has-australias-ch…

        Cheers, Ian

        • +1

when are you going to remove the stupid plan change fee? why should people have to pay to change plans when they are out of contract?

porting 4 services away as soon as I find another deal, I am not paying you money just to move to a higher plan

        • Glad to hear you're improving. I had a horrible three month experience with you guys in 2014, ended up going to the Ombudsman. If I wasn't on a great plan with Optus I'd consider switching back!

        • @AndrewRox22: Thanks for the feedback. I will pass this on to the team and we will look into it.

          Cheers, Ian

        • @Ozymandias: Thanks! :)

        • +1

If you want feedback go look at the Vaya thread at Whirlpool. Wear you asbestos undies though.

        • +1

its Get $3 off your first 3 months, on selected plans, your comment and title seems to sound likes its permanent ~ its also ONLY for NEW signups!

        • +1

So you charge $5 for a current plan change fee! So an extra $5 to price match yourself!! Thats bloody clever ~ on low cost plans like this you should get a free plan change after say 6 or 12 months IMO. Im not impressed as the VAYA3 is only for 3 months and only for new signups! So as a current, long term vaya customer, i get stung $5 for a plan change that wipes out any benefit to getting a better deal. Im NOT impressed, not impressed at all!

        • @srhardy: Hey, thanks for the feedback. Just to clear things up, as an existing customer, you will not be charged a plan change fee if the plan you wish to price beat is comparable to the one you are already on.

Here if you need any further help.

          Cheers, Ian

  • +1

that reminds me better change me and my wifes vaya plans to telechoice or somewhere else.. lolll (not that ive had issues with vaya but yeh its vaya… :P)

    • +3

aldi mobile is fantastic IMO. Telechoice is a bit overpriced but still okay

      • They seemed to be about the same price… Who else is on the telstra 4G network?

        • Woolworths mobile?

    • are they better priced?

    • So what is the reason for changing if you haven't had issues?

      • Changing jobs, New mob are with Vodafone my current mob are with telstra so I'd like to have a phone (I keep a work one and a personal one) with telstra for the coverage… I quite like the telstra network

  • +4

May I know why people hate Vaya?

    • +20

You're quite green on Ozbargain I see

      • haha. i'm kind of new to Australia. :D

    • +8

Normally ppl report billing issues and nightmares when trying to leave. ie. keep on being charged. My wifes been on Vaya for 1.5 years.. no issues so far.. fingers crossed.

      • +1

I left Vaya 3 months ago, no extra charge. But maybe because I called them before I port out.

        • +1

yeah I didn't do this and got charged legacy charges. $9.90/month "plan freeze fee" until I hounded them on FB to fix it.

I was with liveconnected which was overtaken by Vaaya, but I think they work the same. Main reason for the hate is that their plans masquerade as pre-paid, but actually work as post-paid. If data usage goes over allowance it comes up in the next bill. Their barring system that is meant to stop this doesn't work - usually takes 24 hours to properly kick in if at all. By then, far too late to cap excess data usage from an app gone haywire.

Supposedly if you're able to do your own capping over your own data usage from going over, then these plans would be good value.

        • +2

When I left I didn't get charged and didn't contact them prior to leaving.

I think I'm one of the few that find vaya "fine". No worse and no better than other telcos in general.

There is definitely some benefit to being with a large telco though, such as good apps to help track usage, 24/7 support, physical stores to go to, and random other perks (Telstra/Optus customers)

      • I've been on Vaya for 2.5 years and no issues at all

      • So the problem happens when you try to leave them?

My wife is also with Vaya. She doesn't use data much so got the $18 per month plan which was the cheapest I could find back then. Wish I could it to swap to the 1GB plan. Can I?

    • +26

Charging existing customers who have never missed payment a mobile security deposit of $20 out of the blue was a good example. And then not paying that "once-off, refundable security deposit" back when people leave their service.

      • +2

i dunno i got my deposit back after a simple 2 minute phone call.

        • +3

Why did you have to call?

By the way, how did you manage to not wait 20-30 mins on hold? I must be calling at the wrong times….

      • +2

I never got my $20 deposit back haha =(

    • +4

With the buyout from Amaysim, it may be moot, but

      • adding $10 a month privilege fees as a f*** you to customers
      • impossible to reach them. I once tried about 20 times over a week to call and never got through
      • they often didn't fix things and you had to try again and again (eg. voice mails were switched on and I could not turn them off)
      • phantom unjustifiable charges that nobody could explain.
      • when I left, they charged me for 2 months, despite me giving them one month advanced notice!

If you really want to bore yourself, read whirlpool forums for tomes of complaints about Vaya. They were abysmal.
My family now deal with Telechoice and Aldi Mobile. Both are excellent.

      • +2

I told Vaya one month notice changing the service but they charge again another month, called them three times, and given up

    • +1

Their on hold music appears to be one verse & chorus of one song repeated… Which gets rather annoying when waiting 20-30 mins on hold… I often give up.

I'm not sure if I've ever received a reply from submitting a request via their online form. And the website live chat disappears when they're busy (a good indication when not to call…) Which seems to be very often (it's seldom there, at least the few times I needed it).

  • +1

    any international call value/inclusions??

    • +4

      Doesn't look like it. :(

All International calls and SMS, third party premium services… are charged directly on top of your plan.

    • +1

Lebara has good rates for some countries. Check them out if you're shopping.

      • +2

Or go with one of the Aldimobile plans for added international minutes.

  • +11

I was with Vaya for 2 months. Good luck trying to get onto anyone on the phone when you have a billing problem. Try Jeenee mobile, a much better exprience.

  • +1

    Kogan should buy Vaya

    • +1

ohh it will.. wait for it to go down!

    • +6

Vaya were purchased by Amaysim for $70 million earlier this year and at the time had ~140,000 customers.

      • New owner (Amaysim) should have started a whole new brand and entice customers to move over. It would have been more beneficial to them.
Vaya was just bad. I was an original LiveConnected customer and dragged into Vaya kicking-and-screaming.

  • +6

The way they treat their customers I can't believe they're still in business.

  • +2

This or Coles new mobile plan 2GB unlimited talk and text for 28 days.

    • +2

Well this is cheaper if you consider that a month is about 2.4 days longer. That's 8.5% more.

  • -4

Checking in for the neg comments

  • +11

I mean it is a bargain, you could be paying $90/month with Telstra for this level of shitty customer service

  • +1

bad coverage in my area. don't think it's Vaya's fault, just optus

Tried the one on groupon special 18 dollars for 3 months…… used 2 months and jump out (lost 1 month)
    people just couldn't call me……

  • +9

I would like to know whether Vaya is getting better after being acquired by Amaysim.

    • +2

In 2014-15 Vaya had a 288 per cent increase in complaints by customers to the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman [TIO]. But complaints have decreased 90 per cent this year, according to Ms Snell.Amaysim has tried to improve customers service since taking over, such as cutting a $10 SIM card fee, and sign up and cancellation fees.

"When Vaya became part of the Amaysim group at the start of the year, part of the journey was becoming more customer centric," Ms Snell said.

      http://www.smh.com.au/business/media-and-marketing/vaya-chas…

    • +2

I did a couple of months with Amaysim this year, had no problems whatsoever.

Got a couple of cheap Woolworths sims atm, the coverage is the worst I've experienced. 25km from Perth cbd and all of a sudden I don't get calls and texts inside the house, just missed call msg's or sms when I leave (got an sms yesterday 18 hrs after it was sent). And it doesn't matter where I am, it takes around 25-30 secs for an outbound call to start ringing after I click on the number, like it's cycling through exchanges.

Which….doesn't answer your question at all.

      • +1

I have experienced poor Woolworths coverage too. Worse than Vodafone and Optus. WW is on the (crippled) Telstra network.

        • Yeah it's woeful, loved the $10 unlimited sims but certainly won't be sticking round.

    • Hey Scotty - we know there's still a lot of work to do but we have made a heap of changes to improve the experience since the acquisition. Some of these include:

      1. Removing the $10 setup fee
      2. Introducing a free delivery option
      3. Removing the $30 disconnection fee
      4. Introducing a Price Beat Guarantee for both new and existing customers

We are proud to see TIO complaints down by close to 90% from last year and have many more changes in the pipeline. Still a ways to go Scotty, no doubt, but we certainly are working on this as one of our top priorities and always welcome any feedback.

If you're keen to check out more on the latest, Gizmodo did a nice write up http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2016/08/vaya-now-has-australias-ch…

      Cheers, Ian

    • +1

I went on their online help to ask something about the $14.50 plan, and the guy insisted that they didn't have any such plan! Imagine trying to get a problem resolved on a plan they offer but say doesn't exist. Sheesh!

      • +1

They actually don't. That $14.50/month in the title is actually Unlimited S when you click on "12 Months". That means you pay $174 up front, which works out to be equivalent to $14.50/month.

  • +1

Got to say (much as I dislike Vaya), the prices are v competitive!

    • +1

Just make sure you know that the highlighted prices only apply for 3 months!!!

      • Unless you pay for a year I guess

      • Hey guys, the highlighted prices above are the no-promo rates so you will get $3 off the above prices for the first 3 months and then go back to the ongoing price. I.e. $22 Unlimited M will be $19/Month for the first three months. I want to point out though that the VAYA3 promotion applies to all Month to Month plans except the $16 Unlimited S plan.

        Cheers!

  • sooo…is this full telstra 4g network?

    • +2

      Optus 4g.

      • whoops - for some reason thought they switched over to telstra

  • I have Unlimited L, so does that mean I'll just have the same plan but $2 cheaper?

  • Anyone know if their plans include Social media in the cap or is that charged as usage?

    • All social media is charged through usage. I haven't seen a phone plan with unlimited social media for quite a while now :(

"Ms Snell said the company has also placed a strong focus on the quality of experience for customers."

Any recent comments about the CS?

  • +1

Sign up with Facebook to save another $5 of your first bill

  • +1

Optus and Voda both have deals on at the moment for $40/mo Unlimited/8GB SIM-only on a 12mo contract.

I would much rather contract with one of them and pay a little bit more than go with Vaya.

    • +2

      I haven't used this provider before, but…
      https://www.jeenee.org.au/products/sim-packs/#classic-plans

$35 per month (no lock in)
      Unlimited national calls, sms
8gb of data on Optus 4G
      $300 of international calls

      • I have nothing to say about Jeenee but praises. Their customer support is good-to-excellent. I have a good feeling each month as I pay because their profits go to aid the disabled with telecommunications. They send you replies via email or they pick up their phones. Their plans are good for me, they are with Optus. And I know that unlike ALL other telcos, profits roll back to assist others in need.

  • +2

I was on Vaya for a few months and had no big problems with them. All the little problems were sorted by a quick call to their support centre, and they were generally quite helpful. But, I kept going over the 3GB data inclusion so ended up paying $36 a month, so I switched to the Optus 10GB plan for $36 (with student discount).

  • +1

I'm just leaving Live Connected (owned by Vaya) as my phone hasn't had network for the past 3 days and dealing with their 'customer support team' has been ridiculous. Jeenee have a plan for $18, 2gb, unlimited text and 400 mins of calls… So I think I'll go with them. Or one of those OVO plans.

  • +8

I ported out after they charged me $2500 for doing 72gb's of mobile downloads in 2 days.
They told me the data I downloaded was correct. I even had a screenshot of my phone data usage counter only showing 400mb total.
They were meant to BAR my internet when I went over my data usage (part of the terms and conditions when i signed up),but they didn't…

In the end they told me I had to pay…

Contacted TIO (Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman) and Vaya called me back and I only had to pay my usual 1 month billing rate.

They will always try take your money even if you have proof otherwise. Have to make a claim with the TIO for them to even attempt to listen to you.

    • +6

dude, you gotta take a screenshot of your bill and post it here for the rest of us here to laugh at

    • 72gb downloaded in 2 days……is that even possible?

      • Just stop with the 4k pr0n

  • +7

Neg due to awful previous experience with them. AVOID.

  • +3

If you're thinking of going for 7GB option. Consider going with Jeenee Mobile instead. $1 cheaper on a month by month plan, comes with 8GB rather than 7GB, and gives you $500 worth of international calls a month. Much better value in my opinion and still Optus 4G.

    • -1

That does sound good. I wonder if Vaya will price beat?

      • +1

Maybe, also looking at Jeenee's lower plans. The 2GB plan looks like better value too, if you don't use a huge amount of minutes. 400 mins 2GB of data and $18 per month.

      • +1

They won't price beat, unless it's the exact same deal.

        Not even a $1, I tried.

    • $500 international on the the $60 plan. $300 on the $35?

  • +2

Good point. I went searching for the plan you mentioned, it is the $35 plan here: https://www.jeenee.org.au/products/sim-packs/

Personally, I'd go for jeenee over vaya anyday.

Edit: This was a response to the above comment.

  • +5

Was with Vaya about a year ago for probably 8 months or so. They randomly overcharged me at least 4 of those months. I always got the money back, but it was always a hassle going back to Vaya.

Perhaps I was unlucky but based on my experience with overcharging, I do not think it is a good deal irrespective of seemingly very good value otherwise.

  • Been on them for a month and seem fine

  • +1

Awesome, been with Vaya for almost 3 years with no issues. Using the -$3 code should see me paying the same amount but with 2GB instead of the 1.5 I currently have. If I can use it that is- might be new customers only.

It says the vaya3 code is only $3 off for the first 3 months. Probably just stick with what I've got.

    • You wouldn't switch to the 12 month pricing?

  • Im on the vaya $17 ($650Call/Unlimited SMS/1.5GB) personally i find that vodafone has better reception than optus now.

  • Are these (and the extra $3 off) available for existing customers?

    • Extra $3 off, no.

Existing customers can get them, but have to pay a fee.

      • Thanks. What do you mean a fee?
