Westmix Steel Wheelbarrow 100L Red $31.60 at Masters

1110

A cracking price for a steel wheelbarrow with a 100L capacity. I'm surprised it hasn't been listed already as its been up for a few days.

Seems to be reasonable stock levels.

Assembly required which is a bit of a pain (half the holes don't line up!), but a bit over $30 for a steel 100L wheelbarrow? Noice…

This is part of Father's Day deals for 2016.

  • Bought this when it was on sale last year for $79. It's been left outside the entire time. No rust. Although the bolts come loose often. But I was happy with it at $79. Tempted to buy another at this price.

    • These require assembly right?

      • +14

Yeah. But pretty easy. My 2 year old at the time was able to help. Probably why bolts keep coming loose.

        • +6

Very likely, especially if he knows where you keep the spanner and likes to do some repairing job from time to time.

        • +1

"bolts come loose often". Try adding spring washers.

      • Just picked mine up. The staff member wheeled it to me fully assembled.

    • +4

      Try using some Loctite

      • +1

I have found that Rust also works very well at preventing loose bolts ;)

Hey mate. I saw this offer last night by pure coincidence. Checked all Masters around me, they were all out of stock. So I bought this today instead. https://m.masters.com.au/product/900016181/hardwicks-60l-ste…

Thanks op. Redone out of stock. Got the smaller which can be handled by the smaller one in our house. After cooking, washing ir…. ouch got caught.

      • +1

got this together in about 15 minutes, looks sturdy enough for rocks etc.

    • Yes I think I got the last one there about 2 weeks ago @ $55.
They gave it to me in bits on a trolley.
Lucky I noticed it was missing both legs + bolts before I loaded it in the car.

So they sent me out the back to a trolley with a heap of odd parts and helped me get one sorted out.
It wasn't the correct packet of bolts but was close enough.. still it forced me to stuff around a bit.
Even at $31 I'm not sure it's worth the ordeal of buying dodgy masters dregs.

Nothing like good ol' low-end Chinese build quality…

    • +6

Yeah what happened to the days when wheel barrows came pre-assembled and were built like a tank. My dad is still using his wheelbarrow that he's been using some 40+ years since before i was even born.

      • +3

        Planned Obsolescence happened.

        • +1

And later generations have a more disposable view. Replace often with bigger, better, brighter.

  • Out of sock at Rockhampton QLD.

Out of sock at Rockhampton QLD.

      Your feet won't be happy.

  • This thing was a pain to put together. Literally alot of the holes did not align and you have to use brute force to bend things to get it together. Other wise good when it finally came together.

    • Low end made in China build quality.

      • Genuine traditional Chinese wheelbarrows are awesome. They have the wheel in the middle so you push down to lift the load up but after that you dont need to support the weight with your arms. No idea why they dont adopt that idea here.

        • There might be some OH&S issue with that idea which might be why it wasn't adopted in Australia.

    • Yep i bought the from bunnnings its was a pain in the arse so many holes out of place and the wrong size bolts all things like that!

  • Looks a bit 'girly'. Do they come in blue?

    • +7

Red goes faster, just needs to be lowered.

      • +1

once you go black you'll never go back…

I have a blue wheelbarrow of a different brand from Bunnings. Really crappy, totally falling apart. I recommend against blue wheelbarrows.

      • -1

You mean you should stop buying cheap wheelbarrows.

    • +1

interesting comment, since up until the early 20th century blue was considered the more feminine colour - http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2014/10/pink-used-co…

I'm surprised JV, that someone as erudite as yourself did not know this before making such a stupid public comment.

      • +1

        Don't believe everything you read.

        • +1

yeah jv stupid, I for one thought you were much more erudite.

      • It isn't that interesting that things used to be that way and now people are acting as though they aren't when they aren't.

    Only a bargain if you'll wheelbarrow something…

at $31.60 this Steel Wheelbarrow is still a steal

    • 'Kent you be more super about it.

      • -1

Unlike wheelbarrows made in the 70s and 80s, this one will turn emo and brood, steal your clothing, sulk and run away.

    • 'steal' ? Steel or alloy? :))

    • it's a pity that it's not made by Stihl

  • Better be made in USA or Australia for that price

For anyone looking for a wheel barrow but are put off by the other comments about difficult assembly required - I bought and assembled this wheel barrow today from $49 from Bunnings. The tray is not steel though, it is Polypropylene. It does require two people to assemble and the instructions seem to list the wrong measurements for the screws but we were able to figure it out quickly and got it together in about an hour without needing to stop and disassemble anything and retry. Apart from that the instructions are surprisingly detailed and helpful if you study the images as closely as the text. I'm not a DIY or gardening person and I would wager just about any two people could also get this thing together without much difficulty. There was certainly nothing even close to the holes not aligning reported for the Westmix.

No regrets, especially as this $31 wheelbarrow is out of stock at the only store in my area - Canberra Airport, ACT

    • The tray is not steel though, it is Polypropylene.

Reckon ya mighta got a different one because the description says steel. There's only 2 occurrences of the phrase 'poly'.

      • +2

My mistake sorry, what I meant by my comment is I'm suggesting an alternative wheelbarrow to the one op posted that was easy to put together and is still pretty cheap. My one doesn't have a steel tray but may still be of interest to someone

        • I threw a few bricks and stones into my plastic one and it cracked big time. From now on I will only go for steel wheelbarrows unless moving soft mulch.

  • thanks. will get one

  • Unfinished Business

    • Unfinished Business 2: Bad Management.

  • I tried to buy this last week, from the last store that supposedly had stock. (Brisbane)

Rang me up next day, saying they couldn't find all the required pieces.
Had to issue me a refund.

    • Lol aftermarket parts a more expensive than the units full selling price

  • What's the difference in functionality between steel and poly?

    • +1

Steel doesn't handle acid well. So no use for dissolving dismembered body parts.

    • +1

Steel is good for hard / heavy / pointy objects that will break the plastic version.

When you dump a load you can use the lip of the steel resting against the ground and sort of shake it. The poly will likely warp or snap.

The poly won't rust, with the steel once you scratch the coating you'll need to apply some rust converter / primer to stop it from rusting.

Probably some other things too.. Maybe weight difference too?

  • no stock in east melbourne

  • Seems like all of WA is out of stock

  • A barrow is also the name for a castrated male pig. Look it up.

  • When are Masters going to throw these out at 60% off..

    http://performancedrive.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Ma…

    • Yeah, they would be great for bucks and hens nights.

  • "Unable to process your request"

    Must have been Ozbargained again!

  • Thought I had managed to purchase this bargin using Click & Collect option on the Masters website on 08 August 2016 and was sent both Order Confirmation AND Invoice via email on same day advising "Once your order is ready for collection from Masters South Morang, you will be notified by either via SMS or email."

Received voice to text message today advising that the dont have stock and they'll issue a refund…..Not happy!
