Creative SoundBlaster Free Portable Speaker $98 at Harvey Norman

150

First of all, don't be confused with the word "free" in the title, as it doesn't mean $0 here. Creative Sound Blaster Free portable speaker was also posted as a "deal" at $128, $157 and $186 but I guess those were not well received. Now Harvey Norman has further dropped the price to $98 and let's see how it goes. It's also retailed at USD$99 + postage at Amazon with 4.4/5 reviews.

From the description:

The Creative SoundBlaster free portable speaker will set the mood and have you dancing all day and night with a long life battery, wide connectivity and dual neodymium drivers and passive radiators that power your music with a sharp cinematic sound.

Key features:

  • 2x 4cm drivers
  • Bluetooth v4 + SD reader for built-in MP3 player

I think the marketing department figured out that putting FREE in the product name is excellent click-bait, I wouldn't have come to this deal otherwise.

    Free?

  • you had me at free and then you lost me ;-/

  • i was reading reviews for this speaker yesterday. It's a great speaker and a bit under value by main stream tech media.

You may want to clean up that description. I read the description a couple of times and to someone who is not aware of a previous offering of this item, it makes very little sense.

Outline how we get the item for free or remove the word free from the title. Let HN run the gauntlet of the ACCC for misleading advertising, it is hardly needed here.

    • I think it should be written as 'Creative Soundblaster Free' portable speaker. It's the product name so Harvey Norman aren't being deceptive.

    • Facepalm…

  • Nice, how does this compare to the ue boom models? USB and micro SD, as well as aux seem bloody handy!

    • Also, can you connect multiple phones at once via Bluetooth? Edit - website says two

    • Went in to Harvey Norman to test this out and ended up buying it. Very nice speaker.

I had read reviews that the sound was a bit unclear and that the "loud" setting made things worse.
Maybe that is the case if you are an audiophile, but for my ears this has a very nice full sound.
Quite nice bass given the small driver size. Loudness is also good given its small size.

If anything I found the UE Boom 2 to be less clear at same loudness levels.

It has the micro SD slot in it, with buttons to control on speaker (so can be an mp3 player, but no screen to select music).
Good for set and forget playback.
It does not come with a power adapter, just need to plug the usb cable into computer or any other USB power adapter you may have.

At this price it is a very good buy.

      • still umming and arring about buying one - the flip 3 seems to be the most well received online but doesnt offer as many input options and is more expensive

  • I've been looking at bluetooth speakers and Creative SoundBlasters are getting good reviews. Glad they're doing well, they've come a long way since SoundBlaster Sound cards for the PC which is where I remember them from lol.
