JVC = cheap generic junk? Probably not a house hold brand name in AUS, but in Japan it's a popular brand … along with Sharp, Pioneer and others that we don't get too much of here in mainstream stores like HN, JBs … JVC also do a top of the line range, which give Sony, Samsung, LG a run for their money …
Not sure if it's a 'bargain' with standards on here, but at 18.5% off … at least it's not full price!
Junk or not … well, the only ways to find out would be instore via a viewing, or reviews but doubt there would be much info online…
Props to the OP for finding a 55" under $600 that isn't TCL or Kogan … would I buy it … no. hahaha.
JVC farmed off its TVs to OEM like Vestel in Turkey sometime ago, it's not like the 'good old days' …
JVC used to make and sell decent gear in Australia.
However, they've pulled out of the Australian TV market and as outlined here - http://www.smarthouse.com.au/news/16TUF30G-updatedmove-by-th… and http://www.carltonaudiovisual.com.au/news/fake_brands/- other companies have bought the naming rights to re-badge their own cheap TVs with these formerly well-respected brand names. Same thing with Akai and others.
It's a bit of a scam, designed to trade on the reputation that those older companies had with older buyers.
It's more confusing when companies mix and have some they make and others they farm off to Vestel… But then I guess as long as you like the picture who cares.
Jvc in the day where awesome hifi manufactures but jvc making tv's please just Chinese crap using a very reputable brand name should not be allowed
Chinese crap
lol where do u think all TVs are made
Yeah, i had a JVC mini-disc … ahhh … back in the good ole days …
But it's quite common for most AV manufacturer's to jump on the "why dont we make X as well as everything else" wagon …
cannot find any review or spec. for the exact same model. another BigW sale Viano 55' looks like a better deal (UHD).
Confirmed - can't find any reviews for that exact model JVC, (just one without the A, in the UK that broke down after a month).
Could be just like bunnings, have the same model as competitors but with a slight difference in the model number
Thought that, but possible model has been imported for this sale. It's rebadged with JVC trademark, so could be anything.
Storyteller you Cleary have no idea I don't suppose you have heard of brands like Metz or Lowe, before you jump in and look like a fool do some homework champ, you Cleary where not around when jvc where making hifi equipment bit before your time lol past bed time isn't it
Or even Loewe…
When we "wagged school" we caught the bus up to my mate's dad's flat at Collaroy (Sydey beaches). He had all the ggod gear there, including the flokari shagpile rug, bar, etc. Perfect for taking those shielas back to!
And a JVC Quadraphonic HiFi, with wooden speakers and grills made from real timber lattice.
Like this : https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/7f/d0/09/7fd00960d…
And we played the Quadraphonic 33rpm disks so loud, all day. He had an 8 track reel to reel with pirated songs too! Imagine listening to Dark Side of the Moon in 4.0 channel, with the clocks in "Time" ticking all around us. OMG it was l33T :-)
That was over FOURTY years ago… this thread has caused one of my memory synapses to refire!
Sounds like you're the one who needs to do your homework. Sure, like yourself I can recall when JVC made and sold decent gear in Australia.
It's a bit of a scam, designed to trade on the reputation that those older companies had with older buyers like ourselves.
I tried the 55" version when Dick Smith were selling them, but the sound was so bad, even with the addition of amplified speakers, that I returned it.
Different model & likely from different manufacturer - these are rebadged units with JVC trademark added. So could be better, could be worse.
So many brand names that used to actually identify a reputable manufacturer, and now used to label cheap generic junk.
JVC, Hitachi, Akai. Surely there are more.
