First Bargain Post.
Was shopping for a small 2 in 1 Touch screen laptop last night, almost pulled the trigger on a Lenovo.
Doing due diligence this morning and found out the screen on Lenovo was not up to scratch, so whilst hunting around for a cheap system with an IPS screen I came upon this deal and ordered.
Dell Inspiron 11.6" 2-in-1 Touchscreen Laptop
$699 RRP $200 off.
Ended up being $498.99 delivered.
I recall it saying somewhere that it was until the 17.7.2016 but cant find that info again to confirm.
Cheaper than most comparable systems and with a 128GB SSD, IPS screen and 3 cell battery.

    Nice first post Filbert. cheers

    • Yr welcome man.

  • Could be well worth it, the "new" version apparently has a terrible display (not just the lack of IPS panel, actually terrible) and only a 500gb harddrive option (easy to replace, but still, more money). The CPU is essentially unchanged (higher turbo speed, that's all).

Had a look at a std HD screen on the Lenovo against the IPS on the Dell today at JB, there is quite a difference. Glad I didn't go the Lenovo.

  • I purchased a refurbished 4th gen i3 version of this last September from Dell Factory Outlet. I'm pretty much in love with it now, but I have to admit it has a few… personality quirks that I had to get used to first.

Mine came with a 4th Gen CPU / 4gb / 500HDD. I replaced the RAM with 8gb (only one slot on mobo) and the spinner with a 256SSD from the drawer. I am well aware an 11.6 inch 768 screen is not meant to be a beast. Even so, in my every day use and light travel there has not been a single thing this lively little toy had not done easily. Even played through Borderlands and Skyrim. Everything either low or off, of course, but at this res and screen size it was "playable".

Like it so much I'm considering buying the 6th gen CPU version just so it will last longer before I will eventually need to replace it. Hopefully years into the future.

    • How is the battery life on yours?

  • Nice deal; however, can someone clarify please … the Dell website refers to both a "Windows 8.1 and an 11.6" touch screen", and "Windows 10 Home 64bit English" operating system. Perhaps I am missing something … which o/s version is it?

What's the battery life like? I wanted something to watch movies and was wondering if an iPad was probably better.

    • These are not comparable at all. If you just want to watch movies, get a cheap android and save $300.

Most of them have terrible screens. Decided to get an iPad Air 2 instead. More expensive at $670 but probably worth it.

    • My question too
Dell web says up to 8.5 hours
Wonder what the IRL number is?
Considering for son for school so 7 hours plus battery would be required

      • +2

Remember most classes don't use laptops, so 7 hours us over kill

      • I've never understood mine flat, but the battery meter normally says 10+ hours (eg 80%, 8 hours remaining).

      • Fair call but - there can be some commute time
Also starting at 8 hour life means still likely to be 5+ hours in 12 months time - remembering that battery is internal and not easily replaceable

  • N3700

That's still an atom processor. It is very difficult to recommend any laptop comes with a CPU starts with "N" for over $300.

    • Outright performance isn't much below the Skylake i3u, and the the n3700 does more calculations per watt.

      • Actually it is. It is slower than some last gen Celeron processors such as 1000M. Raw power just isn't enough. Performance per Watt ratio hardly matters when your display uses the most of your power.

        • I own this device. I can confirm that it's not bad. It's not fantastic, it's pretty good considering you can get it for $420 from the Dell factory outlet. You can play games on it on low settings, though I don't. I can run Lightroom on it without any issues.

According to the benchmarks I have seen, the n3700 is about on par with a 5 year old desktop processor.

  • Can someone confirm it contains a legitimate SSD (M.2 or SATA) and not simply 128GB of flash memory? Some cheaper touchscreen laptops these days contain crappy flash memory (on par with average SD cards) advertised as "SSD". ~50MB/s is far from 450MB/s+.

  • If these are anything like the previous iteration, they are garbage. screens are very fragile, slow to boot (ours didn't have SSD), the ribbon cable between mainboard and daughterboard (containing wireless card, CMOS battery and power buttom) would often disconnect causing a loud beep until pulled apart, wouldn't always turn on, faulty keyboards (various keys not working, or the whole keyboard).

You might think, "this is just a once off, surely they can't be that bad", but this is from a fleet of 200.

    These have brilliant displays!

  • Is this the same machine that was on sale for $359 during the ebay clickmore promo? looks the same just not sure the other one was touch screen, otherwise same specs from memory.

  • Just visited local JB Hi-Fi, same machine, willing to match price + $85+, explained the $499 online deal by Dell has no local warrenty, need to send back to Dell if something they couldn't fix over the phone with user/owner.

  • Considering to get one of these for college. How good are the performance on these?
