  • Serious question. Can this be used for cooking?

    • I don't think so. Look at the bottom of the description. Doesn't look edible.

So it's good for my mother in law

        • LOL…YEP!!!

It's 99.4% pure naturally evaporated sea salt made in Australia from sea water.

Himalayan salt is only 95-98% pure and comes comes from mines in Pakistan but people rush to use it in cooking.

      … go figure.

Nesquick chocolate powder (Nestle) contains 80% sugar, and some other rubbish with a hint of cocoa yet they call it chocolate powder. Why not call it flavoured sugar instead? How misleading is that?

Not having a go at you in any way of course, just sharing a shocking fact.

As far as I know, Himalayan salt is known to have it's own benefits. And yes, sea salt is the most widely harvested salt throughout the world.

        • How's it "shocking" when it's on the label? I'm more pissed that our supermarkets import "Made in NZ" foods that are grown in China. They're just put into a plastic bag in NZ.

        • I remember a couple of years ACCC penalised Coles, for its' misleading claims that their bread was baked fresh in store. When in reality they're half baked in Ireland before it even got here. Dreadful

Though I still believe it should be called flavoured sugar and not drinking chocolate

    Cheap salt for the dishwasher

14c/kg @ Masters vs 343c/kg from Miele. This is a no brainer 2430% saving :)

  • great idea about the weed killing. +1 for you

  • Would this salt be ok for a Crusted Salmon bake?

    • Only if it's marinated in chlorine.

  • hhhmmm saaaaalt

  • Good for salting bait as well…

  • From what I understand minerals in cheap salt can stain the pool. I've been told to get the $10 salt at Bunnings instead of the $5 salt.

    • For the minerals in the salt to stain your pool there would have to be a pool chemistry balance problem as the amount of Iron & Magnesium in that list is pretty low.
But if you're happy to pay 3x the price for the peace of mind you're welcome to.
I personally have used this salt when refilling our pool from scratch.
So that's around 250kg in 40,000 litres of local tap water with no ill effect.
