      any any??

      • +3

but…but you wrote "used" and these are new! :P

        • but…but you wrote "used" and these are new! :P

New or used won't matter. They'll just chuck your old/new headphones/earphones in the bin when the purchase is made.

      • Found one a bit cheaper with shipping included.

        • you should be able to get some basic earbuds for like $1 from china, or $3 locally shipped on ebay
even somewhere like the reject shop would have crappy ones for under $5
          :)

        • @SBOB: But they say "headphone". I doubt if they'll accept earbuds lol

        • @rocklinsuv:

I would argue that they would be accepted, as you can also get a discount on the bose earbud style headphones

        • +6

This will do. I doubt they will care even you show up empty handed. It's just marketing gimmick.

        • @nbn: Lol, real hand made exclusive headphone :D

        • @rocklinsuv: Earbuds are also called in-ear headphones. The suffix -phone is just a way to say that something deals with sound, and our ears are part of our heads.

        • @twocsies:

Earbuds are also called in-ear headphones

I think the generally-accepted convention is that headphones are called so because they go over the head.

Earbuds go into the wearer's ears, so they're ear-buds.

It sounds odd if you tell someone your iPhone came with headphones in the box. Or that you've just purchased a pair of Xiaomi Piston headphones.

        • @eug: Sorry, but the first paragraph of the article points out that there are two kinds of headphones. The first is the type you describe as headphones. "The other type, known as earbuds or earphones[1] consist of individual units that plug into the user's ear canal." Headphones produce sound and are worn near the head, in contrast with other types of speakers that produce sound but are not worn near the head. It only sounds weird to you because you do not have a strong association of earbuds being headphones, but nonetheless, many people do refer to in-ear worn sound emitting technological devices as headphones.

Everyone uses words slightly differently, and English is not set in stone. Our language is evolving, and this means in some circumstances, a group of people could use headphones as a term that did not include earbuds and it could ease communication. But in this case, if we go to the Bose website itself, we can see that they use the term headphones to name their own earphones/earbuds, but use those terms when describing them. For example, see the "SoundSport wireless headphones".

          @eug:

but the Myer catalogue clearly says '15% off any Bose headphones', which includes the in-ear style QC20 and soundsport's.
So CLEARLY, in ear 'buds' are still headphones in the valid sense of the term 'headphones'

        • @twocsies: As I said, the generally-accepted convention is headphones = over the head, earphones = in the ear.

If you google "headphones", you'll get this.
If you google "earphones", you'll get this.

          Our language is evolving

Sure, but at this point in time it sure looks like headphones and earphones are still distinctly different. Companies may be trying to change the meaning to simplify their lineup, but the words themselves are quite self-explanatory.

Plenty of people misspell words. Should we just attribute it to an evolving language and accept they're wierd spellings?

        • @eug: Your first inclination was to point to Wikipedia, which says that earbuds are a type of headphones. Bose calls its earbuds a type of headphones. When we google image search for headphones, we find about 10% of images are earbuds.

Sure, over-ear deejay type earphones are more prototypical. But many manufacturers and journalists refer to earbuds as headphones, simply because that is what they are. There is absolutely no distinction. You might as well say that cats aren't felines because you've never heard your mum talk about your pet that way.

          @twocsies:

When we google image search for headphones, we find about 10% of images are earbuds.

          And that's why I say it's the generally-accepted convention.

        • @eug: I think that's why Apple is removing the headphone jack. Too many people were so confused by the term EarPods because their phone didn't have a different jack for ear buds, they even thought the iPhone was broken.

Apple tried to clarify by using descriptions like "the design of the Apple EarPods is.. more comfortable for more people than any other earbud-style headphone." But some people still didn't understand that earpods and earbuds were headphones, so they couldn't understand where to plug in their earbud-style headphones.

Problem solved, simply remove the headphone jack. iPhone 7, it just works.

        • @twocsies: Great!

    • Any! Mesa so happy to see you.

    • Hi,

      Thanks guys. Any actually.
I just bought one QC25 replacing an old unbranded earbud headphone.
The guy said they would just throw the old one so they don't care if the old headphone is working or not.

I am waiting for QC35 to drop to under $350…

    • +2

I am waiting for QC35 to drop to under $350…

Let us know when this happens. This is Bose after all. I don't think the price will go down <$400.

      • I am quoted as saying under $300 a few weeks back. I reckon I will get them this year in combination with some deal. One has to be optimistic!

A bit of competition with other wireless models such as the new Sennheiser PXC 550 may help as well.

      • I bought one from the recent Myer deal for $399 (even cheaper than the $399.20), so that should me it <$400, right? :)

    • I was waiting for these bur ended getting the sennheiser momentum (over ear). No regrets.

      • I also got Momentum 2.0 over ear. Sound quality is amazing (and supposed to be much better than QC35). Good choice. QC35 is good for travelling I think.

    • I got it for 449 - 120 = 329 as with many others thanks to the amex deal. Could save another 40 too if you are travelling overseas.

  • +2

I can confirm this works. My wife got a QC35, from Myers (last week), for $425 off the price after a $74 off. It's in their store catalogue. Make sure when going there you must bring the catalogue with you or the sales person may NOT know about it.

    • +4

      thanks! here is the info
      taken from this catalogue

      • taken from this catalogue

        Yup, that's the one.

    • for $425 off the price after a $74 off

I mean the price she got was $425 ($74 off).

      Apologies for the confusion.

      • $425 stacked that with the Amex purchase anything above $75 and get $15 and do split payment and you're laughing.

        • I wan't aware that there was an AMEX promotion at Myers?

        • Then you might as well buy 1 at a Bose store @$424 (and a lucky bloke got it for $399,see here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/3823862/redir), stack with AMEX $100 - $30 and do split payment, laugh even more!

        • @feihong: Where's the Bose/Amex deal? Even so this would require luck getting Bose to price-match (at all) and then more luck hoping they'll accept multiple Amex payments.

        • +1

@jbuttnz: The BOSE deal here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/254584
and the AMEX offer deal is here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/252728
If you haven't already registered for the 'Mid-Year offer', then it's too late now as the registration quota has been filled. With regards to the BOSE deal, although the deal has already 'expired', it doesn't hurt to walk in and ask (such as Premium Sound St Kilda who posted the deal), and you might still be able to get it for $424 without having to pricematch with any other store.

  • +2

I was going to ask how they value the used headphones so that we only pay the price difference.. Looks like you are just relinquishing your existing headphones.

    • -3

Where does it say they are taking away our existing headphones? We've only been told they need to be presented.

As a suggestion, some of us might like to wave our hands around in a circular motion while presenting… 👋👋

  • -1

Why buy it now? It was cheaper without trade-in and you don't buy it.

    • +3

Can i borrow your time machine and go back to that deal please? :)

    • Did you read through that deal? It was only available in that one store, and it was a mistake too. A few others got lucky.

      • Not only in one store. More than half of all Myer stores were price-matching that NSW store in that one day. I printed the receipt and took it to Marion store in Adelaide and got one for $399. Many other people bought it from the CBD store, as well as from many other stores in other states too. So it wasn't just from one store.

        • The $399 price was available in one store, everyone was price-matching that original store. Not all stores would price-match however, so the ones who got it were lucky.

        • @eug: not really. got mine at 399 at my local without having to price match. it was 20% off.

        • @squarepants: OK, so that's just two stores.

  • Is there any chance for me to get a price match then use this deal.

  • Cool. Looking to buy qc35 and missed the 20% deal.

Will that work with the catalogue online or should we have paper version ? And where can we find it ?

    • Just take old headphones into any Myers store. Simples.

  • +1

Do you think they will accept some old airline earphones I found in the bottom of an old carry-on bag?

  • +7

combine this offer with the upcoming woolworths dollars offer for myer giftcard, and the discounts adds up to something like a sidewards smiley face :)

  • I believe that the cost price of the QC35 is 399$ :)

    • +2

Its much lower than that :)

  • time to look for some old cans to tradein :)

  • Thanks OP. Picked up a pair. Rang ahead to confirm stock and the guy said not to even worry about bringing in a pair of headphones and just gave me the 15% off.

I already have a pair of the Sennheiser Momentum Wireless and I unfortunately would have to say that they sound much better than the QC35, but the ANC on the Q35 are second to none which will be awesome for my long ass flight next month.

    • my trip next month is what tipped me over to getting one. the ANC on the qc35 is incredible. wear it daily on my train commute and honestly cant figure out how i put up with the noise for so long.

      • I use backbeat fit which allow the ambient noise in for situational awareness and once I put on the QC35s I nearly got hit by a car due to the ANC, need to be careful where these are used. They dont block ALL the noise (unless you're deaf to begin with) but they do make it considerably quieter.

People make it out as if they're dead silent but some noise can be heard. Tried this on about 10 different display models and the one I ended up purchasing.

Either way they'll make great travel companion though I wish the sound was a little punchier like the beats.

        • that is true. it dont block all noise but it does block a fair bit. those noises it dont block sound muffled or distant.

I'm sitting on the train and the two people next to were talking. I could still hear them but they sound muffled or faint. like they are further away than next to me.

as for nearly getting hit by a car I can see that happening. so i am extra careful to look both ways before crossing the road.

  • will bose store price match this?

    • will bose store price match this?

      I doubt it.

      • I just got Bose Indooroopilly QLD to price match the 15% Myer deal today (without the need to trade in old pair of headphones). They were more than happy to oblige. Plenty of stock available.
AMEX Mid Year Deal works @ all Bose outlets as well. So a further $30 off for Amex holder who registered.
        Thanks OP!

        • -3

Amex deal at Bose outlets has nothing to do with this Myer offer. You can't buy 1 headphones from 2 stores.

        • @ahok: He's just saying he managed to get Bose at Indro to match Myer's 424 price. That, plus the Amex deal, means others who signed up for the Amex/Bose deal can buy it for $394.

  • Hi All,
Sold my QC25 on gumtree over the weekend as was looking to upgrade to QC35
Went to Myers CBD today to check out the 15% off Bose deal(ends 1st Aug 2016)
Sales rep suggest they tighten the screws and now required to hand in a pair of headphones (must be headphones not ear plug type) to get the 15% off.
So went to Daiso, bought a pair of headphone for $2.80, came back and the deal done…walked out of Myers with my Black QC35 for $424.15.

    • At Sydney ?

Will go tomorrow to pick one, and also bought a Daiso headphone just in case they want one :D.

  • Melbourne, though I'm sure its a national Myers promo

    • +1

Have to do a hook-turn in Melbourne to get to a myers store ;)

  • +1

Just bought it from Sydney CDB.

Called this morning, the guy keep me one aside and told me to bring headphone to have 15%. He did ask me if it's not earplugs but proper headphone.

Also bought Myer gift card from woolies to have woolies dollars, and going oversea in 1 month so will claim GST :D.

    Thanks !

  • Had to go find someone to attend to my sale but they accepted my old headphones (not sure what on earth they want them for but I don't want them and can't give them away). No problems accepting my 2xgift cards and credit card for payment. Unfortunately Myer Canberra Center is out of stock on the QC35's at the moment but they gave me an ETA of 4 days or so and offered free delivery to my home. I will undoubtedly not be home when they deliver and need to visit Myer to pick them up but we will try I guess.

and omg people, go online or ask a friend for your tech advice. Don't visit Myer and ask one of the only two floor staff what they think about Chromecast. I'm not sure how you can trust the advice from someone trying to sell you something.

    • +1

had a shit experience with Myer canberra Centre. Guy said only old bose headphones accepted and there was no stock, so he told me to buy from JB Hifi

      • When was this? today?

I hope you took your business to the nearby-ish Bose store and asked them to price match?

        • Yeah this was today during lunchtime.

Not great customer service IMO. There are no bose stores nearby though. Maybe one 20km away.

        • @spawnpoint:

Just went to google it and found that I am thinking of an older Bose store that has closed

Yeah to be honest I thought the customer experience in Myer was a little off. I wouldn't be the first person to make the "where are the staff, who can I buy something from these guys?" comments. I'm surprised shoplifters don't have an absolute field day there - maybe they do and its a best kept secret? After all what is to stop them.

        • @hetzjagd:

and now Bose Fyshwick have refused to price match because Myer have told them this promotion excludes the QC35s. FML.

Might call up Belco and Woden and see what happens

        • @spawnpoint:

this is total BS on Myer's part. I knew they were going to 'crack down' on this and alter the conditions of the promo. You may be over it but I think its worth chasing up with a manager in store or trying to contact them on Facebook either via PM or commenting on their wall. Where are the terms and conditions for this deal? On the website it says jack all indicating anything they have knocked you back on. Sorry you have had such a run around

      • Same for me. They were sticking with 'Bose only headphones accepted for trade in'. A bit silly.

  • bought QC 35 with 15% discount today at Doncaster Myers.

  • Premium Sound St Kilda will still do that price in-store only.

    • I messaged them but they didn't reply me =(

  • Bose at Carindale gave me 15% on QC35s today. I just said can you price match, he said how match and I told him and he said ok.

  • I got a pair today. Paid with cc points so mostly free

  • Bose store in pitt st mall wasnt very helpful. Refused to match the discount

  • +1

No problem at Myer Radelaide. And they weren't interested in taking my rubbish earbuds which was disappointing. Bose at Hilton wouldn't price match, best was $449

  • Thanks OP. Rang Myer Miranda, spoke to sound confirmed 15% off QC35 and said I didn't need to bother bringing in old headphones. Then rang Bose DFO Homebush that said they wouldn't price match as it was an offer, not advertised price. Rang Bose Miranada and they checked with manager and were happy to price match the discount, total $424. Went in this afternoon, paid with AMEX (save $30 on $100) walked away with new QC35 at $394. Very happy camper.
