I still haven't received my order for power bank. Sent an email and no response.

    • I have just send you PM.

      • Thanks.

        • +4

Hmmm. It's a worry though that it needs a promotion to get some action regarding your order.

        • @x d: Really?
We're only reading a tiny part of the situation. If I didn't think I was getting a quick-enough answer (and who knows how long that is), then I'd jump on a deal's "associated" member, too.

I see the-above as a positive. Monty has turned a possible negative into a fast positive, for a fellow ozbargain member.

You don't even know what you're talking about.

        • of course I know what I am talking about. If you ever use your financial credential same as some random website, your password can be stolen from anywhere anyway. You use a public wifi and concern about middle man attack then use VPN.

It's like your talking someone can still your wallet with ATM card and you happen to set the PIN same as DOB which is also on your Driver licence. If that is the case then it is you to blame.

  • ive been tempted to buy the note 3 pro, but i heard some stuff about the bootloader being locked? because i would want to flash the international miui rom when i get it, can anyone shed some light on this for me?

    • As I understand flash global rom no need to unlock bootloader.

Mine from Aliexpress already flashed to global rom but bootloader still locked.

      • oh ok, its just that i dont want any pre installed bull@$*% that may have been loaded on the phone.

also is the latest miui running on android 6+ ? or still 5?

        • Still 5.1.1

        • Coming from Everbuying, it appears they install a custom ROM, as mentioned on a previous deal from Everbuying: here, here and from the store rep, Becky. I'm not sure if you can get them to just leave it with the Chinese ROM and do it yourself.

        • From my experience, it is much better to unlock the bootloader and reflash them completely for the better stability of MIUI.

Those two steps are not difficult at all. It was my first time to go through the procedure and just took 5 min.

After you've reflashed it into the stable global ROM, you can update it via your phone when there is a new version.

I followed this process from the official MIUI website.

          http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html

I bought Redmi note 3 pro prime (snapdragon, 3gb RAM, 32gb memory) and it is way better than my galaxy note edge which I sold it after I bought Redmi note 3 pro.

          Superfast and extremely stable.

(And new MIUI 8 based on Android 6 will be released in a few weeks)

        • Public Beta/Developer Global ROM of MIUI 8 (Based on Marshmallow) is due 11/07 and the Stable ROM is expected to start rolling out on 16/08. http://en.miui.com/thread-302416-1-1.html

      • don't ever do it, flashing the wrong ROM with locked bootloader will erase your EFS which will make you lose IMEI. You will see only 1 IMEI number after flashing. You need to request bootloader unlocked first then use Fastboot mode flash.

You'd better write down both IMEIs before flashing in case you lose it. The box only has 1 IMEI stickers. All these sellers flash the system image only hence you can't use OTA update because it is a mix ROM. So it is pretty much half Global half Chinese ROM.

        • +3

seems like a lot of effort for phone that doesn't even support band 28 for 4G, and with no OTA you will need to flash again for updates and security patches …..

I used to be impressed and got my son a Redmi note2 and flashed it to global …. wasn't impressed when they decide to not do a factory android 6 rom …….. love my nexus …….

        • +1

          @garage sale:

That's the price you don't pay

        • @garage sale: This comment made me decide to avoid this phone, for not having band 28, and the trouble of having to flash to make the phone aus friendly. thank you

I hope the OP can warn people about such things in past, current, and future posts

    • Note 3 pro is fairly easy to unlock the bootloader (though you don't need it unless you want a custom rom), I think you thinking of the note 3 (nonpro) that has the issues

      • The process for the Note 3 is still easy just takes time for them to approve your request(and don't worry what your reason is, it doesn't really matter).

        • Oh okay, maybe I was thinking about the flash process, there was something about unlocking bootloader with the non-pro version that was an issue.

The pro version also requires permission, but it only took a day for me

        • @Pacify: It's also possible unlock the bootloader on the Pro version without requesting permission. You can a file in the fastboot ROM and then flash over that ROM with MiFlash which allows you to perform the fastboot oem-unlock go command

Waiting for the Redmi Note 3 pro prime :)

    • What's the difference?

I have been using my Redmi note 3 pro (snapdragon, 3gb RAM, 32gb) for 4 months and never heard of prime version.

      • The 3gb/32gb is what is sometimes called Prime, so it's the one you have.

        • Then that's the second item in the title?

        • @jasonJCU:

The second one is smaller, not a note. There are also other differences.

        • +1

@Miss B: Ahhh. Sorry. The names are bloody confusing.

      • The prime is a 5 inch model of the redmi Note 3 pro otherwise its the exact same phone.

    • +2

Redmi 3, Redmi note 3, Redmi note 3 pro, Redmi note 3 pro prime. Xiamoi, what the (profanity) is wrong with your naming of your products lol

  • What is the camera on this like?

    • +3

Basic no good on low light.

      • Would you mind pointing me in the right direction as to which phones from this part of the world have decent cameras? I have an elephone P6000 and just started using my camera often so now realising how bad it is. Thanks.

        • +3

For around $400 with good camera get LG G4, I recommended it to several friends they are all very impressed with the camera.

        • @superforever: only problem with g4 is boot loop which I had

        • @s4nju:

I think the newest one are OK, so far no friends complaint.

    • overall very good.

Not as good as other flagships (esp. under low light) but you will be surprised how good the camera is for less than $200.

      • +3

Redmi is not the flagship range of xiaomi.
You need compare mi5 with other flagship phone to be fair.

      • I have a note3 pro, and I have no issues with the Camera at all. Could be better in low light, but I rarely take pictures in low light anyway

  • +1

It's what you should expect in a ~$200 phone. I saw a review where the redmi 3 camera was compared against the G3 but not in depth. I think people set their expectations too high on these cheap Chinese phones. At this price corners need to be cut in some areas.

Here's the review for those that wondering.
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Xiaomi-Redmi-3-Smartphone-Revie…

Also I'm aware the redmi note 3 and redmi 3 are different phones. I don't know if you're asking about the 3 or thr note 3 here though. Since people get confused between the two.

I was looking at reviews because I ordered the new 3s, which is a newer cheaper improved version of the 3.

  • This or Nexus 5X?

    • -5

      Obviously this one.
Nexus 5 sucks. I assume There is not major change on nexus 5x.
      Xiaomi got best rom support

      • Nexus devices recieve Android updates first before any other devices and are currently on v6.0.1.

        So maybe stop assuming things.

        • -1

I personally owned a nexus 5 before, bad battery was alway an issue. Stock Android system crashed few times after 1 year old. I never unlocked root or flashed custom roms

    • There's a large price difference between those two devices

  • +1

Apparently this phone is coming out but with the inclusion of band 28 ( 700 Mhz)

can anyone find any info about this? or release dates etc? please send me a link.

    • 12 July I believe is the release date. Only the 16gb version as far as I am aware.

  • +2

Recieved my redmi 3s Prime yesterday from AliExpress deal, and strangely there was no time setting for Australia and missing from Local time settings. All other countries listed but Australia :d

    • Got one for my wife and had the same problem. Selected Singapore, then once in used the network times and it was all sweet.

Debating selling my S^ and getting one too, great phone for the money.

      • Only thing holding me back is the "global" redmi note 3 from Taiwan coming "soon" that is meant to have band 28 for 4G in Aus.

    • Got mine couple days ago, there is no locale setting, so i was forced to set it to Indonesia, but they do have AEST time setting.

  • +1

Would have bought a Pro 3 if it was all colours eligible for discount. That Gold variant is disgusting. :(

  • +1

How does this compare to the Lenovo k3 note ? Taking into account the rom issue.

  • +2

The Redmi Note 3 is an amazing phone (once you get around the rom issues) for $200. It can do almost anything the latest $1000 iphone can do. I've never noticed any performance drops or issues, everything is very smooth. Very good battery life, I like MIUI, and because of this phone and some of Xiaomi's other prdocuts I've fell in love with this brand.

    • +1

That's why I went with the 3s, because we reached a level where even low end hardware performs well enough. 18 hours battery life in pcmark is phenomenal. Probably 3 days use between charges for me, and qc 3.0 means even a 4000 mah can charge fast. The only concerns I have with these phones is camera, and screen brightness for outdoors use. I read reviews claiming over 500 nits, so if the screens not too reflective it should be acceptable. The lack of gorilla glass isn't really an issue when you use glass screen protectors.

  • Pardon my ignorance but from what I can see the main big difference between these is the size (5 vs 5.5 inch) and RAM (2GB vs 3GB). Any other SIGNIFICANT differences that would be noticeable to a basic non power user??

I am just after a basic smartphone for my sister

    • The pro is significantly faster, better screen, and most importantly, has a HUGE amazing battery

    • the pro has a MUCH better cpu, twice as fast.

  • +6

i highly recommend you pay the $12 more for the pro. more support, more roms, much better CPU that is compatible with more. an extra gig of ram. the cpu is twice as fast seriously best $12 upgrade you will ever see.

I have been catching them pokemons non stop with this phone whilst the rest of the world complains about battery life, i have never had an issue :D

    • +2

sorry ignore this, this is not the Redmi Note 3 pro, just the Redmi 3 pro. damn xiaomi and their similar model names.

save a bit more for Redmi Note 3 Pro

  • TopCashback 8%

  • +4

I am also waiting for the Special Edition for Taiwan with band 28.

    • -2

No you want the super special hyper tough guy edition

  • Tried to pay via paypal but the price is in USD not AUD, thus the advertised price at the checkout didn't apply due to currency conversion. When I cancelled to see if paying with a card directly would allow me to pay in AUD, it says that I can't buy it anymore because it is limited to one per customer.

Resolved this as I found out it was in the my orders section. Paid $196.92 for it because there is no option to pay the $194 advertised AUD. You have to pay in USD and lose out on the currency conversion.

  • Any deals on mi5?

  • Any deal on the 5 inch Redmi 3 pro? want to buy that one. http://www.everbuying.net/product1163618.html

  • Can someone who has this phone from Everbuying tell me if it comes preloaded with a rom thats full of malware? I got my partner a Note 2 a while back and it was just full of malware crap and had to get clean rom installed. But reading that its locked? and you cant do this is kind of off putting unless i have read this wrong…

  • Does anyone who got this model from previous deals get static/hissing/crackling when using earphones?

I received mine on Friday from the aliexpress deal from a few weeks ago and trying to listen to podcasts/audiobooks makes me want to blow my brains out.

  • Does the Redmi 3 Pro have Fast charging enabled by default or does it require a custom rom/kernel?

  • +1

To be fair, this isn't much of a bargain as the ideal model you want (the xiaomi redmi note 3 prime / 5.5" screen with 32gbs of internal storage and 3gbs of ram), isn't on sale. I nearly fell for this last week but luckily did some more research and found that model on aliexpress for USD 174.99 (white and silver version, gold version was even cheaper I believe, also is sourced from HK which has the international rom as standard).

    Link below:
    http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Original-Xiaomi-Redm…

I'm in no way affiliated with aliexpress but thought I'd just post this as inevitably someone will buy one of these models after reading a review on the redmi note 3 prime, which is not available here.

  • Did anyone here get asked to send a copy of their ID and card used for purchase? My brother did and it seems rather unusual since they withdrew the money.

    • Cancelling my order - they randomly ask for ID + a screenshot of your card to protect against fraud. Why the hell would you randomly protect against fraud lmao, you either protect against it or you don't.

edit: also, they withdrew the money THEN asked for verification. Unreal.

  • +1

How long would it take to get this delivered? More importantly, is this Pocketmon Go compatible?

    • It has GPS, and if you can get Google Play on there and have the game installed.
Then yes, it should be compatible.
I have purchased the base model in this deal currently awaiting delivery so I couldn't 100% verify.

  • The battery can still be removed right? Is there just a panel in front of it that needs to be unscrewed or something?

  • Would this be a step up or down from my OnePlus One?

  • -1

Can someone point me to a post/article that explains what the ROM issues are for this device and why one would need to flash the ROM?

    • -1

Because this is a China chinese version so for us we need English version. That is why some store flash the Global Rom before they ship it but some flash a non official English Rom which is no good to me.

  • I just placed order and number is EE1607151745022368. However, why the price is different with title. the actual price with the discount is USD$149 (AUD$200) for the Redmi 3 pro.

  • No jumping through hoops. Thank god my payment didn't seem to get processed even though it said it was. Thank god their website is full of issues and bugs.

This deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/253982 beats this deal hands down if you're after the gold version.

Roughly $172 delivered, much cheaper than the $197 delivered here. There's no way you can get it for the $192 advertised.

  • Any coupon codes for the Note 3 Pro??

  • So the Pro vs Note. Any reasons to get the Note version over the Pro?

Also whats the Band 28 people keep mentioning? (im a voda user)

Would like to get either the pro or the note as a backup (planning to get a LG G4 as main before they run out)

    • LG g4 has boot loop problems

    • LG's range of phones have boot loop issues.
I got a G3 some time ago and the VERY FIRST update I did (official out of the box) caused a never ending boot loop which caused me headaches trying to fix.
Band 28 is the 700mhz radio band that Australia uses partially for 4G speed, as such its preferable to have a Band28 compatible device.
I can see the Pro has a worse resolution than the Note. however it's preference as they don't seem much different.
Officially though I couldn't say, I don't own either phone.

  • Hi Guys, I'm new to these types of phones.
Does the Redmi Note 3 (not the pro) come with Google Play installed on the ROM?
Or if not, can someone link me to a guide to flash it?
This item is a gift for a friend so I'd like to set it up for him beforehand rather than let him down.

  • I don't understand why nobody's talking about this phone that seems very good value?
    ASUS ZenFone 2 (ZE551ML) 4GB RAM 16GB ROM Android 5.0 4G LTE 5.5 inch Phablet with Intel 64bit Z3560 Quad Core 1.8GHz 13.0MP Rear Camera
