Does Virgin ever do sales on the Flexi fares or is it always just the saver's?
always the savers, but the common promo codes usually work fares.
why flexi? for upgrade using points? VA sometimes does 2k PE saver fares to LA which is cheaper than a flexi, you can upgrade this to J if you want. also more FF and status points than a flexi
Yeah flexi was purely for upgrading to J, wasn't aware of being able to upgrade from PE, very new to the whole velocity program. Thanks for the info!
Not bad, but pretty standard pricing for Australia to LA through Virgin.
Interesting, there must be heaps of seats free still, even after the price wars of a few months ago that saw east coast - Newark return for ~$950 (see you in October, NYC!)…successful low-ball upgrade bid here I come.
Have they launched the upgrade bidding system?
Yes, it's been around for a while IIRC..
Find it here
I booked & paid through a US portal, so my bids are all in USD, the cheapest being $550 (eff that), so I'll probably wait until check in to try my luck at the airport.
Thanks for that, pretty neat.
Do you know if it works on codeshares? I have a flight with Delta as part of a trip.
Don't believe so - the only legs I have the option to upgrade are the intercontinental legs operated by VA.
Not really an amazing fare - but not terrible. I bought flights to the US return + a domestic leg to Seattle for under $800 for this travel period (Virgin). I think under 800 return is the target price for oct/nov.
Skyscanner seems to indicate about 1025 is the normal price on virgin for these travel dates.
The same route SYD-LAX was only $974 last week on Skyscanner
