    Power Output: 70WRMS

Not exactly much for a subwoofer

Yeah and it's coming up $127.20 for me

      • Online price is $127.20. The ticket in store showed $101.76. Unfortunately I didn't have time to grab a photo of the item in-store.

70WRMS is a decent amount for a basic active sub.

Compare that to offering from most stores: JB-Hi-Fi sells a Shirwood 100W PEAK power sub for $300, and a similar offering from Yamaha will set you back $370

I can't comment on quality of the Jaycar offering, but the power shouldn't be an issue unless you are aiming to shake your house.

70W doesn't sound like a lot I agree however that's its RMS rating so that's its 'fair' rating all things considered. 70W could be (and frequently is) touted as 500W Peak. 70W is quite a lot of power and would suit most home applications except for those with very high power systems. $101.76 is a great price.

      • Don't know about that. Got a 180W RMS sub here (1218RTL) and I wouldn't want anything less than that.

    • Power Output: 70WRMS

Not exactly much for a subwoofer

Of course it is… 20W RMS is heaps if the speaker is efficient and well matched to the amp.

Idiots here are comparing amplifier power ratings, yet the speaker itself is the thing that makes the most difference to sound levels.

High powered speakers are often really insensitive. That's how they can swallow (and require) huge amplifier power inputs.

Let's say we have a pretty standard subwoofer with sensitivity of 90dB @ 1W/1m. We drive it at 10W and we get 100dB, with 100W we get 110dB, and with a 1000W amp we get 120dB.

Then take a different sub with sensitivity of 100dB @ 1W/1m. Drive that speaker at 10W and we get 110dB, which is the same SPL as the first one with a 100W Amp. The second speaker with a small 100W amp can make the same SPL as a 1000W amp driving the first speaker!

So, this 70W Jaycar might give absolutely huge sound output with this particular speaker and enclosure.
      - or it might be totally poxy.

  • Shows as $127.20
Also shows "out of stock" online.

    • I used to work for Jaycar. The web site uses 1960 Russian web technology. There can be a crap load of stock in the stores, but will show out of stock online.

The stores computers won't talk to the web site.

      • I used to work for Jaycar.

        How long ago?

        • -1

Will just say within the last 18 months.

        • @Blyyth: How do you view each individuals store stock? I can't see any way of doing this, so it's pretty obvious that the website stock is shipped from a warehouse somewhere, and the online stock level reflects the online warehouse stock not store stock. Many large businesses operate this way.

        • -1

          @pmupsinep:

You can't. The internal systems don't talk to each other, even internal orders through the web site store won't show allocated stock.

What you see on the web site is the warehouse stock. There is no way to see if a local store has stock on the web site.

The search engine on the web site is known internally to be quite bad.

        • @Blyyth:

What you see on the web site is the warehouse stock.

That's what I said. So what is your issue? So because the online store stock reflects warehouse stock, not total store stock across the whole country, it's using 1960 Russian technology? Or perhaps the store stock level is irrelevant for the online store?

          No wonder you were sacked.

  • Sick, subwoofer.

      Fully Sick Subwoofer gok bro

  • Will ring around tomorrow if it doesn't end up for the TV there is always my son's gaming PC …..would be better than Logitech 8"

    • Some Logitech speakers perform better than this sub. I have tested the Z623 with a signal generator, and it can produce down to 20Hz without difficulty. I found that I can't hear below 25Hz, so I used the trembling of a shopping docket held in front of the port to gauge the sound. I would have tested lower, but 20Hz is the lowest my signal generator will go.

The sub in this deal says 35Hz cutoff. It will probably be better than the Logitech Z506, I have one of those too, and in testing it drops off in the 40-45Hz range.

      • Some Logitech speakers perform better than this sub.

Jeeze - now that's a cruel and nasty comment!

I have tested the Z623 with a signal generator, and it can produce down to 20Hz without difficulty.

I used the trembling of a shopping docket held in front of the port to gauge the sound.

That isn't a scientific test ROFL.

Anyway, the Jaycar rated Frequency Response of 35Hz-250Hz doesn't mean it somehow stops pumping air at 34.99Hz.
