  • "Yo Kohama"

    • Either way, is this just a "25% Off" deal (across the set of 4)?

      • Something like that. Not sure I just chimed in for the "Yo Kohama" comment.

  • +9

I swear every single tyre retailer has buy 3 get 1 free.

    e.g.
    https://www.jaxtyres.com.au/promotions/continental-4for3-off…

    • Speaking of Jax, during a buy 3 get 1 free Hankook deal last year I went to Jax Preston (Vic) and they quoted even less than their prices on their website without me having to ask. Their website price was already the lowest I could find at the time after calling around a few places.

    • +3

"I swear every single tyre retailer has buy 3 get 1 free."

Yup, every time you DON'T need them.

And every time you you need to replace 2 or more, nothing.

  • But when I called was informed not a Continental to be found in size I required. So thank you OP for the post will organise my new tyres in the morning.

    • +1

Not necessary a bad thing. The AE50s are an excellent all round tyre for the price. You won't be disappointed.

      • Thank you. There was a good reason I miss out on the others.

  • +3

Must say…bought Yokohama BluEarths last time this was running…best tyres I have ever put on my car…quietest and best free rolling tyre ever.

    • +21

As opposed to non-free-rolling (square) tyres?

    • +1

Not if your after a long lasting tyre.

      • The ae50 would last longer, right?
        What about the conti CC5s?

    • +1

A close friend of mine got these. We had mixed results. They have a 50,000km guarantee, but when one tyre blew out they wouldn't honour their guarantee. Last time he got his tyres rotates and a wheel alignment (which he has done at the correct intervals all at the same place) they said that he needed all new tyres after about 25,000km. Again, yokohoma wouldn't honour their gurarantee.

Having said this, they were great tyres, and they do still have some life left in them (the dealership were trying to get another sale early I think). Just don't expect yokahoma to honour any 'guarantee' they might have.

      • +2

Can you elaborate on this a bit more? What was the guarantee and why wouldn't they honour it? Was it Yoko or the dealership? And what did you do about it, surely a guarantee is a guarantee no?

        • It wasn't me,but I'll tell you what I know. It was at Bob Jane, and the guarantee was a 50,000km tread life guarantee, so I was never expecting them to replace the blowout, as they could argue it was from damage (which it may have been, even though I couldn't see any evidence). But the treadlife was what we were disappointed with. When Bob Jane said that they needed replacing, and we mentioned the tread life guarantee we were given, they contacted Yokohama and the reply was that wouldn't honour it - I wasn't there, so I don't know the exact reason.

It could have been Bob Jane, just hoping to get a sale on another set of tyres. As I said, they weren't worn, they were still a fair way off all the wear markers.

        • @Spam Service:

I would surmise that the reason for not honouring the guarantee was because of poor wheel alignment. Which they would have said was a result of hitting a curb or pothole or similar.

Only tyres with treadwear ratings of less than 180 last less than 25,000kms. So it definitely would have to be something wrong with alignment or actual usage (maybe under inflated) that would have caused such excessive wear.

        • @Spam Service: Sounds strange, but thanks for the info.

    • What is the wear like on those BluEarth AE50s? They are pretty much the only Yoko's that have 225/55/R16 for my car. As mentioned below I have the Continental Contact Comfort Plus and have so far done 40,000km on them. I'd judge I'd get another 10k more but it's a bit iffy as I didn't rotate my tyres enough and so I have two which are very worn (down to 7mm according to my garage) and the other two are still fine.

      Reviews seem pretty good though.

      • Ended up price matching the Jax Quickfit Conti Comfort Contact 5 deal with KTAS as they have a better deal and offered free tyre rotations for life of tyres. I have to wait until mid August for the tyre to be available though.

Cost for the tyres were $640 for the four tyres (225/55/R16) and wheel alignment at KTAS. Jax was $649. Basically $199 tyres plus alignment.

FYI. Jax could not get any stock and were really pushing other brands onto me. KTAS called up Continental and confirmed when stock would be ready and asked if I could wait for the back order.

  • I wonder if the will price match the AD08R

    • +2

the AD08R are on the list.

      • Great tyres the AD08R! I have a set on my s15 😉

      • oops, I meant if Bob Jane will price match the AD08R

  • Good tyres. Had mine done a few months ago at Bob Jane. They have these deal on again now.

  • +1

If you are in Sydney Tempe tyres have good prices (http://www.tempetyres.com.au) . Kmart tyres will price match for you too if Tempe is too far away for you.

    • +3

      Tempe sold me expired tyres.

      • +3

I'm not going back to Tempe either - Just use them for price match at somewhere else…

      • +1

Tyres don't have an expiration date.

They have a date of manufacture and it's up to the consumer to decide whether or not they will accept those tyres.

  • Thanks. Missed out on the Bob Jane deal as I has at least another few months left on my tyres.

    • do a big road trip and you'll be able to buy them sooner :)

  • I put in 4 ContiComfort5 tyres @ Jax with their buy 3 get 1 free promotion 2 weeks ago. Got it done for $450 including wheel alignment (215-60-16). From what I hear though, Korean tyres are leading the market right now for everyday driving as they can put in all the features of the more expensive European counterparts and also slash the prices. Yoko and Hankook that is.

I got 4 Conti comfort 5 tyres back in Nov 2013 225/55R16 at Bob Jane buy 3 get 1 free deal. I have done 38k on them so far and because I didn't rotate enough I have two tyres with about 10k left and two reasonably good tyres. Have since rotated two weeks back (rear wheel drive Mercedes E320).

Going to most likely buy another four Conti C5s at Jax and keep one of the good tyres as a spare.

Hopefully they will still have stock I late July.

  • Does anyone offer 4WD tyres under this arrangement (they always seem to be excluded)

    • Most of the time they seam to be excluded. I'm after some All Terain 245/70/16 or 265/70/16 for my 4WD, but cant seem to find any 4 for 3 deals. Jax had one which included 4WD tyres but it ended 30 June :(

    • I'm searching for my Subi Forester - 205-70-15

I got Kuhmo's from K-Mart which are reasonable + Fly Buys for what it's worth

  • When I called up bob jane last week inquiring about the continental tyre deal I was informed that both Yokohama and Bridgstone will be releasing this deal this month…

    • That's good news, will need a new set of Bridgestone RE05A's, didn't want to pay full price $1700 for the set. Was thinking of putting the Conti's supposed to be better in the wet but don't last as long, so the Bridgestone will be the way to go I think. Thanks for the heads up!

      • Don't take my word for it though better double check as he didn't really specify a date… worth a call to Bob Jane box hill to double check as I know the continental deal expires very soon so u don't want to be left with nothing should it not be accurately:)

      • +1

i find 050's to get super noisy when they're close to worn whereas my conti cs's didn't.

Also check (as someone posted above) tyresales.com.au (and this promo https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/254419)

I bought Toyo's last week from them which were buy 3 get 1 free, stacked it with that deal and it came to under $400 for a set of 4 × Toyo Proxies C100 in size 205/55R16 (and no where else around came close on same or equivalent tyres).
Got them installed today and zero hassles with organising install etc at the local place we chose from their list

    • Really good deal. I wish I'd seen that deal before I put in 4 Continental CC5s for $450 including alignment @ Jax last week. Toyo tyres are always at the top of recommendations everywhere.

  • Yokohama A drives are the best tyre I've found for my car. I've tried the Yokohama s drives, flakens, pirelli p6000, Michelin pp2, Goodyear eagle f1 and the oem original dunlops.

I'm on my third set of a drives. Great in the wet, progressive breakaway, quiet and they last a while for how I treat them

meaty rim protector and they've got a good looking pattern too - if you're in to that sort of thing.

It's a shame they're been out of stock when the last sale was on.

    • I'm assuming the tyres you tried are on a Yellow Diesel Golf or different cars?

      • Nah, that was my first car. Currently have a Golf GTI and a 993. I haven't had to change the tyres on the 993 yet. They're Toyo proxes sport but im planning on eventually putting on some A drives when the Toyos are shagged or when I go to 18's.

        • I drive a GTI also, Mk5, currently with Michelin Pilot Sport 3.

          I've love a 993 and would like a 997 as a weekender.

I've never purchased Yokohama for some reason. Have used Michelin Pilot Sport and PS3, Goodyear F1s, Bridgestone RE001/2, Continental ContiSport over the years. Yokohama has never been on my radar. Maybe when I get my 997 lol.

To be honest, there's not a huge amount of difference if you buy the better tyres from the well known tyre brands, they are all good tyres but some people have their preferences (myself with Bridgestone).

  • Perfect timing as I'm shopping for new tyres (all 4) for my Honda Jazz. Shortlisted to Yokohama and Michelin as Bob Jane quoted me really good prices.

Anyone here who can recommend going for Michelin or Yokohama? My tyre size is 175/65R/15.

    • For value for money I would go something like the Toyo Nano Energy

Currently buy 3 get 1 free on tyresales, + a $65 discount with the promo code on here would equal ~$81.25 per tyre installed ($326 total)
      https://www.tyresales.com.au/buy/tyre/toyo/nano_energy_3/175…

      • Thanks for the suggestion, decided to still go for Michelin reading good review and the good price BJ is willing to offer! Will keep in mind Toyo for next change :)

  • Suggestions for a 2006 Accord Euro?

The missus uses it to commute to work (~250km/week) for 90% of it's use so i'm not really after performance per se.
I'm comfortable with paying up to $200 a tyre as long as there is value and/or bang for buck.

I still think buy one get one free offers are better but if you have enough credit cards you can do the Amex deal at Supercheap Auto for spend $100 get $20 back.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/255898
I did a search for my 225/55R16 tyres and none were BOGOF but maybe other sizes are.

  • Hi guys, can i get some assistance please. I've Toyota 2000 camry conquest Auto 2.2l 4 cyl. I've checked and currently all my tyres are bridgestone B249 (p185/75 R14 89H). However When I go on number of sites like tyresales, Jax tyres. I a not getting the same size on what currently I've when i fill in car details…. in fact I'm getting 205/65R15 95H…

One of the site said tyre size 185/75 R14 89H and car doesn't match….I checked bridgestone and after filling car details it lists both sizes 185/75 R14 89H & 205/65R15 95H. I'm confused have I got the wrong tyres currently?

    • Did you buy the car brand new or second hand. Perhaps the previous owner went with a different set of tyres. This is perfectly ok. Some people even have completely different setups for the front and back set. I personally stick with the standard though. Have a look at websites to see what sort of tyres are recommended for your car type though.

      Goto this site: http://www.wheel-size.com/size/toyota/camry/2000/

It will tell you what sort is standard for your car and what alternatives you can get.

      • yes it was 2nd hand. website you mentioned has smallest recommend size for toyota 2000 is 195/70R14. I think 185/75 R14 is not right and looks 205/65R15 95H is right one.

what sort of tyres i should get….we hardly do 10K a year on this car hence don't want to spend too much on them..

        • If you currently have 'R14' tyres then the 'R14' size will be correct. You aren't going to be putting R15 tyres on 14" rims.

        • @SBOB:
From the look of my current tyres (185/75 R14) it seems these are R14 size. However any website i check including one above tells me size as per my car is 205/65R15. Bridgestone is the only website shows both these tyres are suitable for my car.

Note: currently I've bridgestone B249 tyres.

        • @s0805:

possibly the previous buyer put different rims on it

205/65R15 is 2.4% larger diameter than 185/75R14, but both would be 'similar' enough to work on the same vehicle (disregarding the small speed reading difference)

18575R14 is a uncommon size you you're likely very limited on your choices (e.g. B249 from bridgestone)

        • Thanks. I'll go for 205/65R15 size. Given its common and recommended from website above plus i'll have options choosing the deal…

@SBOB: as you can see i don't have much knowledge abt tyres…Given we hardly do 10K a year on this car hence don't want to spend too much on tyres…wat u think best deal/price we should go for….thanks for ur help.

        • @s0805:

          I'll go for 205/65R15 size

and how are you going to fit those on yoru 14" rims

The 'R' part of the size aint negotiable, its based on the size of that circle of metal the tyres are going to be attached to

        • ok. So given I've R14 i gota stick to the size 18575R14. Unless ofcourse if i changed my rims to R15 size is that correct…

wat's the best way to find deal on these not common size…given we have low usage prefer not spending too much on this…thoughts??

        • @s0805:

wat's the best way to find deal on these not common size

make some phone calls… youll still find decent brand name tyres in that size less than $100/tyre
          e.g. https://www.jaxtyres.com.au/tyres/sizes/14-inch/185-75r14
Maxis and and Hancook both under $100

and low usage is not an excuse for buying terrible/poor/stupidly cheap chinese tyres.

        • @SBOB:
Hi, I'm getting some conflicting advise here. currently I've 185/75 R14 89H. Some are saying I can replace them with 185/65 R14 86H. I get that R14 part is not negotiable but how about changing 75 to 65 & 89H to 86H. I am looking at BlueEarth AE-01 tyres here…

Also, what are the implications if any where my spare tyre is 185/75 R14 89H and rest of them are 185/65 R14 86H. does that cause issue when i change use my spare tyre…

  • Is it important to do wheel alignment with new tyres? Bob Jane wants to charge $55 for wheel alignment and wouldn't budge on the price. I thought if the tyres work fine there shouldn't need alignment done?

    • +1

the alignment is done to make sure the wheels on your car are all pointing in the same direction. Nothing to do with the tyres themselves (thats wheel balancing and thats included with fitting)

As to worth it, I think so, and if its a 4 wheel alignment for $55 thats pretty well priced.

      • For Bob Jane I think they have the wheel alignment package $60? which give you extra wheel alignment if necessary on 5000km or 3 months.
