That is an excellent price for the 4590. With Intel providing international warranty no issues there too.

Worth paying extra for a 6600? Or is a 4590 close enough in performance

    • These are s1150 vs s1151.

The core i5 4590 is now EUR 201.00 on Amazon DE, damn!

buy the 6th gen, it's not performance it's got wider selection of motherboards as it's current.

  • This is sad…
I bought a used Xeon x5650 for $170 2 years ago and is unlocked and overclocks to 4.12Ghz with ease
and at that frequency it pretty much doubles i5 4590's performance.

    • Is yours power efficient?

I also have one old i7-2600 workstation - the performance is still pretty good but it consumes quite a bit of electricity than my E3-1231V3 new case.

I wouldn't mind to use old CPU in the office but we should consider the energy efficiency for the long run :-)

      • Well probably not as efficient
But around 1.7x performance it's power useage
Is a very small part for me.

    • progress does seem to be slowing, that was a $1000 USD CPU on release though and you've improved it's performance by over 50% with overclocking

What pisses me off is that intel has 10-18core cpus in server CPU market with low voltage low frequency
These CPUs can no doubt hit 4Ghz if unlocked
And just because they are in a monopoly position they are milking the $hit out if the situation…

        • Yeah shame that AMD isn't on the same level, profit margins for Intel must be pretty healthy.
But also necessity is the nature of innovation, consumer applications don't really need any more power than what is offered by your 5 yr old cpu, so they've moved toward efficiency instead.

  • Great deal can recommend this CPU first-hand. handles very cpu-demanding games well, never had an issue.

  • Any good cheap motherboards to pair with this i7 CPU?
