I can't believe how much we're getting ripped off here in Australia, I've bought one of those for $10 at a market thinking it was a good deal lol

    • +4

      Yep, insane.
      Related to your comment:
This deal was posted a few days ago: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/254496 and showed my father in law last night.
His jaw dropped and said "You know I paid $15 for this exact same (non branded) fitting at Preston market (VIC) http://www.prestonmarket.com.au/ and thought that was cheap.
      I've created a monster.

      • Thank god for OzBargains :)

    • You seen the prices of USB cables? $5 online for a high quality cable shipped, $10 for a low quality cable locally or ~$25 for a decent braided cable.

    • +1

why on earth would you think $10 is a good price

these things cost a few cents to manufacture

      • it was a novelty at the time…over a year ago.

        • even then you could buy them for a couple of buck

          $4-5 at most

          oh well

  • +11

There are a few cheaper options. However the sellers have sales of less than 500.

    US 38 cents delivered here
    US 43cents delivered
    US 45cents

    • US$38 is a great find. I was on Ali couple nights ago and search results showed nothing cheaper than US$0.99.

      • +3

usually I look at the "similar items from other sellers" at the bottom of the page. and click a few of those and then look at the bottom of the page.

sorting by "cheapest first" doesn't always work.

    • Nice one altomic

    • Yep good sleuthing!
Your first link http://www.aliexpress.com/item/HGHomeart-Mini-Black-led-nove… is the same as my "This deal is even cheaper" link on the post details. Crazy how they can ship them at such a low price!

      • Why does't that meet posting guidelines?

        • +3

It has a transaction score of under 500 (268).
AliExpress deals must have 500+ score and at least 95% user feedback in order to be posted as a headline deal.

      • Has its price recently changed? I see US$1.58 for that one.

        • Yes, price has gone up on that one now, must of been getting hammered by professionals.

  • +4

Prefer the Xiaomi ones that can be controlled through the power bank switch.

    • Well built too. Some things in life you just don't cheap out on.

  • Now I need some cheap 240v USB power adaptor :-)

    • +1

      Cant use your phone charger?

      • I can. Just that I want a spare one.

    • Certainly look for a good deal on a branded charger, but don't go too cheap / no name: http://www.righto.com/2012/03/inside-cheap-phone-charger-and…

"Stay away from super-cheap AC adapters built by mystery manufacturers. Spend the extra few dollars to get a brand-name AC adapter. It will be safer, produce less interference, and your device's touchscreen will perform better."

  • +6

Had one. Was junk. Binned it

  • Does any one know how to make one ?

    • Yes, it's quite simple. All you need is an LED, a resistor, a USB plug, and some wire.

      • Can I have a detail of that schematic ?

  • +1

This would come in handy in my car, just plug into the cigarette lighter.

  • +9

We got these for free once. This isn't a bargain, these things are pretty worthless.

  • +4

But these cheap lights aren't bright enough. The authentic xiaomi lights are much brighter.

    • I got given what appears to be a fake xiaomi light. Unsure how much more brighter one wants it to be seeing the one i got is already blindingly bright at its brightest.

The uses i can think off with this is as a night light. To shine light on non backlit laptop or desktop keyboards. Reading lamp. With the uses i described looks like plenty bright to me.

      Then again YMMV.

  • +1

Xiaomi ones are around $7 and the new version has a switch built in

  • Buy here for 43c USD (less with cash rewards)

EDIT: just saw above someone has beaten me to it - ignore

Got this for free, a long while back:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/221946

Last time there was a blackout at my house, I plugged it into a powerbank that I got as a freebie here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/192769 and it made a great lamp

  • +3

Gotta love the transaction history on that page, the first 27 pages are all Aussie buyers from yesterday and today :)

  • +1

how is this product useful? what does it help with?

    • I have several of the much brighter Xiaomi LEDs and they've been great in power outages at night. I frequent crawlspaces and other dark areas and they're good at lighting up the area.

      • doesnt really help me coz i would normally use a torch in that case

        • I found them to light up a much wide area than a torch.

    • plug it into laptop usb port when typing/emailing at night. less electricity to use

      • it burns my eyes if i turn off my light when using laptop

        • face the light to keyboard or bit to screen. you can bend it

  • Can this also be used to check if you're pregnant?

    • just try it. no harm in doing so

  • Off topic…but has anyone ever bought Ali's Lego knock offs?

They look exactly like the real thing but looks can be deceiving.

But those prices are ridiculously cheap. For example…

    http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Joyer-Super-Heroes-Batman-The…

  • Absolute junk!! One out of three worked :(

    • At least you've got yours,im still waiting
