LG 2016 Flat OLED 4K Dolby Vision / HDR, 55" 4K 55E6T $5209, 65" 4K 65E6T $7609 @ MYER

510

This may be of limited appeal however MYER are currently having a promotion where for each $75 you spend on TVs you get $15 off. This finishes tomorrow and the models are in their computers for preorder as I rang today to check the pricing for the promotion.

The new 2016 LG OLED stock is apparently being released next week into stores and this is the best price I have found for these new models. These prices are even cheaper than the discounted prices listed on Amazon for the 55E6/65E6 US models.

OLED55E6T- RRP $6499 MYER- $5209
OLED65E6T- RRP $9499 MYER- $7609

If you are a Myer One member don't forget to use your card to earn a few $20 GC from MYER.

LG just took out the best TV 2016 Award for their new G6 OLED (E6 has the same picture quality) in an event held a few days ago up against the brand new Flagship TVs from Samsung KS9800, and the Sony X940D,where each screen was calibrated exactly the same by 2 ISF techs, and had the same content played through each, and industry experts in attendance whom voted-

Thanks for letting me know. I saw this on the TV yesterday.

Been waiting 7 years for OLED panels. Can't wait to buy one.

    Nice post OP.

I have a 60" LED that is 4 years old - really want 75" or more before I upgrade..

    • Me too. Been waiting for 77" LG OLED to come down in price.

My 60" Kuro is almost 8 years old now and still going very strong. Will move that to bedroom once 77" OLED went down to more reasonable price.

Nice find OP. Hey ben1680, We also have the Pioneer Kuro plasma, and still find it hard to beat the picture quality of what we already own (Plus it is a bonus that it heats the theater room up at this time of year). These prices for the OLED are around what the Kuro was selling for when we picked ours up (Well, Pioneer delivered and installed it and set up our surround and harmony remote as part of the Pioneer service, even though we purchased it at a box mover called Rick Harts in Ossy Park).

I do wonder about the lifespan of the OLED emitters.

On another point, does anyone else remember buying a cathode ray TV back in the 70's or 80's? It wasn't the norm to think of a TV as consumable, you could actually kept them for donkeys years (Whatever that means). Buying a TV is almost like buying a computer now, as soon as you get one it is out of date :-)

        • Agreed.

The OLED lifespan has been improved over the years but I think it's still pretty short compared to LED TV.

The non-linear lifespan issues are really worrying (RGB emitters have their own individual lifespan as far as I know…B<G<R).

  • i want to upgrade my tv, but what am i going to do with a 5yr old panasonic plasma?
    just chuck it?

    • +17

      ill take it

    • Plasma isn't used anymore, but still has advantages over LED so probably still sellable.

    • +4

      Hang it in the toilet

    • +2

If its a ST/VT dont get rid of it, outside of OLED nothing else comes close to its picture quality.

    • +1

I have a 3 year old Panasonic ST50 plasma TV. Beauty of a TV.Blacks are absolutely amazing.

  • Have been looking at this after having a Plasma for 7 years. Any details/links about the differences between the G and E series?

    • +1

      E6 - flat screen-on-glass design, 3D, 40W 2.2 soundbar.
      G6 - flat screen-on-glass design, 3D, 60W 4.2 fold-up soundbar design

Essentially the G6 comes with a more powerful soundbar.

      • +2

Having listened to the current LG OLED speakers and been reasonably happy, and that wasn't a sound bar, then this model is more than capable for what I want.

  • How much deposit do Myer require for a preorder?

  • Is there any direct link? I couldn't find it on myer website.

    • No the models are only listed in their system currently as they are not in stock yet (coming in next week apparently), though strangely they were on front of a MYER Catalogue a few weeks back.

MYER are also slow to update their website anyway verified by the fact that they only show 2 OLED models out of all the ones available.

So you'll need to call/visit MYER tomorrow before the $15 off $75 ends and feed them the model no's OLED55E6T and OLED65E6T.

  • Mm thinking about doing one of their interest free deals as well. Wonder if they have anything going?

  • -3

Looks like I may have to wait a tiny bit longer for a 75" 4K OLED to sell at $4,000

  • -3

    The question is:
    Will it blend?

    • Er … good point. I think.

  • F me…with that price, might as well spend in on proper projector

    • +2

A pj will give you a much bigger picture, but even if you paint the entire room (except screen) matt black, it will still never compare to the OLED blacks..

      • +3

A proper projector in this context would be one which features some or all of the following IMO- 4K Native Panel,HDR, DCI-P3, HDMI 2.0a, 18GBPS..

That leaves you with the following-

        • Sony VPL-VW5000ES $90,000
        • Sony VPL-VW520ES $14,999
        • Sony VPL-VW320ES $10,999
        • JVC DLA-X9000 $10,450
        • JVC DLA-X7000 $8800
        • JVC DLA-X5000 $6160
    • -3

Agreed. You'd be mental to spend that coin on a TV. 4k or not. (Unless you are seriously loaded).
Got a 110" screen with full hd projector for less than a quarter 1/4 of that price years ago.

  • +2

Lesson Learnt: You can never be happy with what you have (for long)! Some other new technology will beat it.

    It is a cycle!

    • And in comes Ozbargain to satisfy that need!

  • +1

Man first was waiting for big screens now it's up to 75, now have to wait for OLED.. And big screen to be affordable… I'm never going to upgrade my TV am I?

    • Get whats available that you can afford and enjoy it. Otherwise you never end up buying anything.

      • I'll wait for 75inch the to come down a little more in price… If OLED is down by then great if not… Oh well

  • +3

    Wow $5000+ for a TV. Even if I could afford I wouldn't.

    • +1

      Exactly my thought too!

It will be obsolete in no time.. Mark my words ;)

    • I have an Epson projector cost under $2K in a media room on a 150" screen and picture looks great to me. Im all for technology advancing though doubt we are going to see 150" tvs for under $2k any time soon

  • +1

Upvoted because I wish and this would be useful for some.

  • I owned last years 65" curved OLED. I was SOOOO excited to get an OLED TV, the excitement soon died when I noticed the black vignetting, terribleuniformity, the poor motion and dynamic range. Black was perfectly black, and 3D really good, but everything between black on 20% grey was terrible.
I've read these issues haven't been resolved yet.
Sure it looked amazing on display, but the issues started when watching dark scenes at home, and once you've seen them you can't unsee them.
I returned it and got a Sony FLAD, which had a grate PQ, perfect uniformity, and totally crap Android OS… I'm very happy with it now.

I am thinking to get one of OLED TV. But one of friend told me that the OLED can burn in after use it for 4 month. Does anyone have any ideas about it?

    • +1

I have one smart pen - Livescribe. I have used them for years but recently I realized that the OLED screen has died under light usage.

They used last generation OLED technology but I must say I am not feeling comfortable at all purchasing such expensive TV with expected short in lifespan.

I would expect a TV should last for at least 5 years under normal use but latest OLED technology seems still not at a acceptable level. The new OLED may have their lifespan double or tripled but who would take the risk?

PS: When I contact Livescribe, they told me it's all about the technology and I am not eligible for a exchange even a repair at my own cost.

  • Looks like more stock is coming in over the first few weeks of July. After today the discount reverts to 15% off which makes me think we won't see this price or lower again for a few months from any retailer (unless LG drops the cost price to retailers for which this 20% off price is pretty close to cost).

  • Oh man, that's what I get for going an Ozbargain free weekend! Ha I've been waiting for these models for quite a while, and while it looks really expensive at $7600, that is one hell of a price for this particular TV.

So are we saying they are still 15% off and we can technically order one in instore at this point…?

    • Call MYER and see if they are currently running a 15% off promotion.

      • I'll actually go in at lunchtime, I know a guy in the TV department. I'll report back.

  • Went to Northlakes and they start a 20% off sale tomorrow according to staff.

    • Great. Be sure to post back if confirmed.

      • Will do. Suspiciously, the OLED65E6T listing that was there around 4pm is now '0' found in search. Hoping they have not hidden it for this sale.

  • Differences between e6 and g6:

    https://youtu.be/diDL0S8BJLU

  • Managed to get the 65" for $7600 with 2 years interest free. Linked to the Myer One Visa card and you get triple the points. That's about $228 in credit vale which I will put towards the Panasonic UHD bluray when it is released in Sept.

    • Awesome. Well done. As the current promotion was only 15% off was it hard to get the 20%?

      • It was $15 off every $75, which is just under 20% off. This deal is slightly better by a mere couple of dollars. They are advertising 20% off so they really can't refuse. I was able to get it for $7500 cash price but the extra credit is better. Also was able to get JB to price match but they wouldn't do anything regarding credit. Also didn't have stock or an ETA.

        • Thanks for the update. I specifically asked when I called today if there was a 20% promo going and was told no only $15 off $100 so it seems however I spoke to was wrong. Glad you got it ordered and the $7500 cash price shows there is a bit of movement in the 65".

Let the bargaining begin. $5k for 55E6 include delivery.

    • Should have used a Myer One card. $20 for every $2000 spent. But that is an awesome deal. How did you manage that?

      • Did that too, 5 yrs extended warrantee will cost me $249. Just have to ask ;-)

        • Brilliant deal.

    • +1

Hey mate, sweet deal! Mind telling us which store you got Myer to price match with, will try secure the same deal! :D

      • Just gave them my best offer and they accepted

        • Nice! I tried to get Myer Melbourne to match your price but they said in order to do that they had to know who you price matched with, as that's what the code on your receipt says.. I'll tell them it was just the price you got offered, not sure why Myers' policy is. Thanks!

  • Well its 2.5 weeks since the order was placed with Myer and I have been told that it probably wont ship till July 29 at the earliest. Anyone else had any other timeframe?
