$10 Fee Waived - Coles Reloadable Mastercard

1610
TEAMOFFER1

Now Ozbargained - There was no expiry date, however someone at head office probably traced the surge in applications back to this website
Offer is meant to be for employees only however should work for everyone.

  • min $10 transfer required. Be careful topping up card from an existing CC, could be treated as a cash advance! DYOR.

  • Free foreign exchange til the end of the year (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/253027)

  • Earns flybuys points which can be redeemed for giftcards. 1 point for every $2 spent. 2000points = $10 credit at coles. crappy return however better than most debit cards which don't have any rewards. also 1 point for $1 on forex.

  • As pointed out by monty.melb, good for use as a disposable card for free trials (eg. netflix, spotify and uber)

CitiBank Plus is best debit option. 28 Degrees is best credit option.

      • +1

I would say this is the best temporary debit option right now actually, given you get some points for it! Otherwise I agree with your comment.

      • Thanks mate, good to know.

      • I saw that theres a couple of citibank atm's in bangkok where I'll be staying, would there be an atm fee if I withdraw with a citibank card?

        • +1

Nope! Also no fee from Westpac ATMs in New Zealand.

        • +1

From my experience there's no fee even if you withdraw from a non-Citibank ATM. You need to look at what the screen says. If they "warn" you that "your own bank may charge you a surcharge" without saying anything about their own charges, then it's free (because Citibank don't pass on a surcharge)

  • Thanks I missed out last time. I purchased one for family members too so if they ever need cash as we are different banks I can transfer money directly on their card.

It forced me to sign up for verified Visa password.

Took 10mins over the phone to bank… but all done.

Should come in handy some day

    • verified Visa password

      I think it's a … MasterCard?

      • +2

        I paid with a Visa.
It forced me to setup Visa Verify.

        Sorry to have confused you

Just rang Coles Financial Services and they confirmed there are no ATM withdrawal fees or exchange fees when using this card.

Existentially the only fees you may incur are those issued by the owners of the ATM and those fees would apply to similar Australian issued MasterCards/VisaCards.

Does this mean you can withdraw cash overseas with no transaction fees (not ATM fees)?

      • Yes

    • I hope you lied and said you were a Coles team member so calling isn't the reason they expired the deal (:

      • Haha, I didn't mention the deal, I just asked if there were ATM withdrawal fees.

Hopefully they do the deal again. I was lucky, I got one, my friend waited too long and missed out.

  • Does this card have your name engraved on it?

    • +1

      Yes

  • does anyone know if I can transfer my coles-myer gift card credits to this?

  • Is this card compatible with Coles pay sticker?

  • TEAMOFFER1 code saying it has expired

Thanks op, I bought for 3 family members. When I got to the 4th family member, I got "Promo code has expired. The promotion has not been applied. " :( Hooray for the other 3 though!

    • +2

I'd ask if you were new to OzBargain, but you've been a member since 2009.
Tip: Don't brag about taking advantage of a deal. It's not looked upon fondly.

      • +3

What? everyone brags about the deals they got! Its what you do. Not sure why 9 ppl neg'd them. It must be one of those days where the crappy weather has ppl voting with their mood :-)

    • +1

Yeesh, I didn't mean to brag. My family members are legitimately going to each have their own (none of them have their own credit cards).

It's not like I'm going to hoard a bunch to myself for the reasons the other commentators on this post are listing (like repeatedly exploiting free CotD club catch delivery or netflix trials or whatever).

      • Don't take it to heart. You scored 3 cards for the family, well done! the neg'ers just snoozed & they loosed :-) its not like the deal expired because of you.

  • Yep, I also see "Promo code has expired. The promotion has not been applied.".

  • People have said this is useful if you need a CC without fees but why not just use a debit card?
    ING paywave seems better return.

Happy to be wrong, just want to learn.

    • +1

      Paywave does not work online.

    • +4

I don't see this as being useful as a CC without fees.
I see the positives of this as:

      • An extra card to have for random deals/things that need CC (Netflix, Uber, GoCatch, PayPal) or anything that just needs a "card number"
      • Free, costs nothing to hold and keep
      • No international transaction fees until 31/12/2016 - this is quite a big positive right now, especially combined with the point below
      • Earn 1 FlyBuys point per $1 AUD equivalent spent - this is the only card in the market right now that gives you points without surcharging you on an international transaction. In fact, this is the only card in the market that lets you earn points at this rate without an annual fee (the other card is Coles Mastercard No Annual Fee, but it has half the earn rate).
      • Useful at Coles Express Petrol stations to get those ATM vouchers for free to redeem random freebies (in recent months the freebies have been: $2 Optus SIM, $10 Optus SIM, $2 Coles Mobile SIM, Coffee, Coles Water) (ING/Coles Mastercard are free too though)

This is not an alternative to ING, or even a credit card. Overall, a rewards point earning credit card is probably still better, seeing as you will usually get ~1 Frequent Flyer point per dollar spend, which is worth more than 1 FlyBuys point.

Also as Neokia says, seeing as you can't PayWave for online purchases, you probably wouldn't use your ING if you had another card that earns you points.

      • @illumination
Can you shed light on how to "get those ATM vouchers for free to redeem random freebies"?

  • Expired so soon :(

  • Damn was just about to buy one when I realised it's expired. Think I'm going to get a Load&Go Travel card, put the min $100 on it, then use the cash out facility at the woolies next door to get $95 cash out from the travel card, leaving me with $4.91 just in case and a FREE card. See any flaws with this plan?

    • Yep. You'll be down.. wait what?! What are you doing?

      • Get this card (no purchase fee), load the minimum $100, then use the cash out facility at Woolies to cash out $95 of the $100 on the reloadable card.

        • Hmm but.. why would you do that? Are you doing this just to get an additional card?

        • I wonder what fees are associated with cash out with the load and go card (if this is even possible?). It's at least $2 to use at atms, or 9c for each transaction. Let us know how you go.

        • +1

          @forrester: Will do.

From my understanding, you can use this to withdraw from international ATMs fee free, even after 31st December 2016. Or will we be hit by the foreign currency fees?

  • I saw this on the page and thought are 'you kidding me they did a promotion right after i ordered one with the fee?'
Turns out it was supposed to be an in-company thing so less upset

  • Can I choose EFTPOS > Saving account when using this card?

If yes, then it can earn flybuys points shopping at Aldi!

    • No,you must choose credit whether it is a transaction or cash withdrawal.

      • You definitely don't choose credit for a cash withdrawal (at least I haven't been and it doesn't seem to make sense to?).

    • I think you probably can do that. But if you have an ING, even factoring in the 0.5% surcharge, the 2% rebate is still better than earning 1pt/$ on spend.

  • Wow, ordered Wednesday and it's already arrived today, thanks OP!

Edit: the cardholder name says Prepaid Cardholder, should I get this changed? Are there any advantages to having your actual name on the card?

    • That's a glitch. Mine came today, and says my name.
