NewsgroupDirect Terabyte Tuesday (1TB = US$40 / AUS$53.63)

100

Great Deal. Normally US$85 so this is less than half price.

Cheapest price for 1TB block account I have found and couldn't find any negative reviews.

Great deal but i wish I knew how to get the most out of usenet… never really understood it

Follow this guide for a complete media experience. I have it at home, and love getting home to plex having all my shows and movies ready to go. I do purchase the box sets when released to support the cause.

That guide is a little outdated, here is a good reference that is frequently updated - https://www.reddit.com/r/usenet/wiki/faq

        • Thanks Snuke I should probably give that a good read myself - I had followed the cuttingcords one a few months ago and it was accurate at that time.

      • Man….My life without Usenet and Plex all automatically doing everything for me would be crazy thinking back.

Just a question, have you found an effective autod/loader for films?

        • That is what CouchPotato is for.
I don't use this or Sonaar or Sickbeard. I use DogNZB's Watchlist feature that pushes an item as soon as it's available instead of API scans every X mins. NZBGeek have a similar system, and you can integrate with an IMDB account. If I want a movie, I open IMDB app (or website) and add it to my Watchlist. Dog & Geek scan that watchlist once an hour and add items and push based on the quality settings you have set.

        • @snuke:

My biggest mistake was showing the family how to use sonarr- now my backlog is filed with HD queues for Orange is the new black.

        • @snuke: Interesting you say that. Yes, all I use is sonarr, it's the cleanest solution for my needs. Couchpotato I have obviously tried before and it's absolute trash. I'll definitely check out Dogs Watchlist feature, thanks!

    • If you want the "most" that you're "getting" to include piracy then you need a private indexer which are usually invite only.

      • onznzb are a good all purposes indexer for a cheap one of price.

I have been a free Oz member for a few years. At the time, they were $15 per year when a lot were either $10 per year or stupidly, $10 for life. USD $55 for life is the best deal, but as with all indexers, are they still going to be around in X years to justify it. They have a nice integration with SABnzbd though.
I am with Dog, and paid up for 5 years, they are closed though, but I would recommend Geek as they are the only ones I know that have tried to copy Dogs Watchlist feature which I love.
Their Geekseek feature does not seem to work as well with IMDB integration as Dogs, but I haven’t bothered to look as to why. I am lifetime with them, so not sure what their regular fee is.

    • This is not a great deal, it is average. 2TB for USD $70 is relatively common, 2TB for USD $55 was done last Nov, that is the great deal.

  • hmmm tempting

  • Usenet newbies should be aware that the most popular option is unlimited data monthly subscription (no contract period) and this around ten bucks per month or less.

    • Who is decent and offering USD $10 or less per month for unlimited. I have seen USD $12 per month in the past, but not below that.
Based on your USD $10 figure, simple maths says that if you download less than 250GB per month, then this block account is of more value.

      • Currently I pay $4.95 :D

        • Groovy, care to share who.

        • is it tweeknews €4.95 plan?

  • NGD are known for relatively quick DCMA takedowns, so it is always best to have a backup account. I use NGD as my main, as they are (were?) the cheapest block account with their deals. I also have a 1TB Astra block account as my backup. It is important to make sure that your two providers are from different resellers. NGD is on Highwinds, so having another Highwinds reseller as your backup would be pointless, as you would get the same errors.
List of Usenet resellers - https://www.reddit.com/r/usenet/wiki/providers

    • I'm planning to use NGD as primary and TweakNews as secondary. Hopefully that will do the trick.

      • Tweaknews is owned by Highwinds, but not sure if it is fully migrated, or is still different enough to consider. I haven’t followed it for ages so not 100% sure where you would stand with that.

  • I'm running with a free astraweb. Still have stacks left from my NGD TB account from a few years ago and have a little left on my the cube net too. I use NGD/TCN as secondary / block filling accounts and most data comes from my unlimited astraweb account, so the blocks don't use much data.

  • I know its not as cheap as this deal, but astraweb 1TB is $50, so NGD normal price of $85 seems a bit steep? Either way if you want a backup option as well, it seems like a reasonable deal.

I've been a NGD block user for a few years. No issues to date. I just got a 1TB block with usenet.farm. They have a summer sale on at the moment. I got the 1TB for less than AUD$40. They have a 10GB trial if you want to test them out. I'm going to use it as a secondary until my NGD block runs out.

  • I have both astraweb and this mob as a backup. On a 1tb block account for both and man does it last a long time….Have been happy with the service for both.
