360
TIDSAVE

Just another TID promotion code. The other promotion code for a $10 discount is "TIDTHANKS" (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/22039)

If your quote is more than $100, you should use promotion code “TIDXMAS2009” or "TIDEGG2010" which gives you 10% off (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/19880) (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/23242)

  • Nice one mate. This will come in handy for most people I dare say.

Savings seem negligible, basically 10% with either code.

I'm more concerned about getting service when required. This is a very complex web:

Travel Insurance Direct ® is a registered trademark of Travel Insurance Direct Pty Limited. Travel Insurance Direct Pty Ltd ACN 121 659 470 AR 305589 is an authorised representative of ETI Australia Pty Ltd ABN 52 097 227 177, AFSL 245631 trading as Mondial Assistance. Travel Insurance is arranged and managed by Mondial Assistance and is issued by Allianz Australia Insurance Limited ABN 15 000 122 850 AFS Licence 234708.

    • One code is clearly $10 off and the other one is 10% off.

If your travel insurance quote is $40, it becomes $30 which is a 25% discount.

The terms that you pointed out are fairly standard disclosure terms, and have no influence whatsoever with the claiming process.

For example, the declaration for Medibank Travel Insurance is "Travel Insurance is arranged and managed by ETI Australia Pty Ltd ABN 52 097 227 177 AFS Licence No 245631 and is issued by Allianz Australia Insurance Limited ABN 15 000 122 850 AFS Licence No 234708."

Of course I understand the maths and nothing of what you have said detracts from the fact it is a complex web.

I'd rather be buying direct from the insurer's own site.

        • I made a claim with TID and was paid. No hassles at all.

    • "Savings seem negligible, basically 10% with either code."

I think you need to go back to school and redo a semester in basic mathematics. I think Year 3 mathematics would suffice.

But to your main point. Have made claims with TID re stolen gear overseas. All claims handled by TID itself. It is only underwritten by Allianz and everything is handled by one layer, TID. There is no 'complex' web as you say.

I just made a claim through TID, I was out of action for 4 days in Peru and had to cancel flights after a parasitic infection from contaminated food/water.

There is lots of paperwork but I received payment within a fortnight of sending in my claim.

The stupidest part of the claim process was having to get a letter from my usual G.P after I got back to prove that I did not have explosive Diarrhea and projectile vomiting before I embarked on a 6 week trip to South America. I can understand someone needing such a letter if they had heart problems/ongoing medical issues etc prior to travelling, but in my case it was pointless.

Just tried a quote for a short holiday in Asia in September. TID offered $88 while zuji.com.au offer was $75. Even with $10 off TID's offer is more expensive. Pays to shop around (as always).

I haven't investigated the terms and conditions to determine which offers the better level of cover. I'm assuming most travel insurance policies sold through reputable web sites are decent.

    • Yep, and there are always discounts floating around for members of certain organisations.

Not only that but if you have a Gold or Platinum credit card you might get complimentary comprehensive cover just for purchasing the travel on the card.

As always though, read the conditions to make sure that you're covered for the things that are important to you.

TID has pretty good conditions, for example medical expenses, medical evacuation and cancelation costs are unlimited where as most other insurers at a similar price are capped.

Complimentary cover provided by credit cards dont really cover you for much at all. I would not be comfortable relying on them for an overseas trip.

I looked around before I went overseas earlier this year and TID suited me best. They provided a similar amount of cover as the policy the travel agent was trying to sell me for 5 times more.

It really depends on where you are going, what you are doing and what you are taking with you. For the sake of $10-15 more I would go for more cover, unfortunately things can go very wrong when you travel.

        • +1

It depends on the card which is why I suggested that people read the conditions — something they should do with any policy.

      • I do have a BankWest Gold card with free extended warranty and travel insurance cover. It seems pretty comprehensive, but the fact that I only need to purchase the airfare in and out of Australia to qualify for the cover concerns me. It leaves a bit of wiggle room for the insurer. For example, I will be flying to Singapore, and then onwards with another company to other Asian destinations before returning to Singapore and home again. Do I need to book all those flights on the Gold card, or only the Australian flights? The level of cover seems very generous given the no annual fee and free cover.

I'll be buying travel insurance, just in case. I've never had to make a claim. Hope I never have to :-)

        • You really need to read the policy.

Some of them say you need to purchase the return flights on the card: your ticket out of Australia and your ticket back in.

I would suggest that you download the policy document from the BankWest site and write to them if you have questions — that way you have their written response.

    • Never heard about Zuji until now. Zuji has $5 Million personal liability cover which is the best i have seen.

      • Medibank has $5 million personal liability cover as well - and yes, this is the best I've seen too.

        • How often does someone claim on that?

Most claims, I imagine, would be related to medical and theft.

If you knock over the Eiffel Tower you're going to need a little more then $5M :)

          • @YesPleaseThankYou: You'll be surprised, especially if you have kids and/or in a country where getting sued is not uncommon - think visiting museums, going to the US… :)

Personal Liability is not a category I personally make my decision on but if their coverage is more than another company with pretty much the same policy, I'd go for it.

            • @kelea: I haven't looked at policies for about a year, I wonder if there are any which will cover legal advice in the event of arrest or something like that.

  • I have taken out insurance with them more than once. AFAIK they are the cheapest out there. Any discount off the cheapest price helps.

  • Try
    http://www.1cover.com.au/index.html?rafID=574016
    for domestic insurance

They have $5000 rental vehicle accident cover (compared to TID's $4000), also with no $100 excess.

I get a quote of $35.5 for 5 days domestic for 1cover compared to $31 for TID.

It depends on whether you need a rental car cover and no excess in the policy.

    • as others have pointed out, look at what suits you. Going to the US the car rental damage minimum without taking out their insurance is $US5000, so in this case 1cover is more realistic.

In Australia 2750-3850 covers hertz avis budget or Europcar on "standard" cars but min $5500 on luxury cars inc 4WD

  • They're good - I took out a yearly travel policy, had to make a couple claims with no issues. Have recommended to mates too

  • Im going to Thailand soon and I hope not to be making any claims but I will be using this code thanks

So if you are going to use this code, why not thank the poster and encourage them by voting positive for the deal. A little gratitude sure helps around here.

I have used TID before $10.00 off is great although last time I travelled these guys where cheaper: http://www.scti.com.au/travel-insurance/policy-cover.aspx

  • TID is giving me the best price at the moment - $30 cheaper than Zuji, and $50 cheaper than Medibank. Will check 1Cover as recommended above for their car rental excess cover - otherwise, will probably use TID. Thanks OP!

Edit: 1Cover is also $50 more expensive than TID.

Interesting to note that for TID, the cost to remove excess is $25 per policy (single or family) whereas 1Cover charges $25 per adult travelling.
