For those wanting a summary of the specs:
    - Intel i7-4710HQ 2.5GHz
    - 8GB RAM
    - 1TB HDD
    - GeForce GTX850M 2GB
    - 15.6" Full HD IPS (1920x1080)
    - Windows 8.1

This is a decent deal, but for those with a little more cash to spend, this is a much better gaming rig at $1180:

That GeForce GTX850M 2GB is very underpowered for gaming. It's fine for indy games just not much else.

Obviously it depends what quality of video you're willing to accept and how demanding you are with FPS. In my experience it runs BF4 at 1080p and high detail at better than 40fps, so it's capable enough to run more than just indie games.

        Might struggle. Benchmarks here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-850M.107795.…

"Many games of 2013/2014 (Tomb Raider or BioShock Infinite, etc.) can be played fluently in FullHD resolution and high detail settings. However, very demanding games such as Crysis 3 or Battlefield 4 will require lower resolutions and/or details."

I saw the benchmark figures - they're only a guide. Personal experience is more useful.

I've been playing BF4 on a laptop with slightly lower specs for 12 months or more. It's fine - not as nice as my desktop, but good enough to be competitive and have fun.

I can't tell you the exact settings I'm using - I just let Geforce Experience mess with the settings, and it plays smoothly.

        • @klaw81:

It should run fine and competitive on Medium but High will struggle for decent frames. I've got a 860M on a higher spec'd laptop and don't run BF4 on high.

    • Each to their own but I had a similar system a couple of years ago running tomb raider and BF3 on medium quite happily. Just drop some shading and anti aliasing and it's fine.

If you want to play on high settings you can but IMHO the frame rate is too choppy.

Now I have an Alienware that's doesn't blink so I can play at whatever settings I want.

That being said, the unit was 2.5k not 1k. At that price point you can't expect miracles

800 bucks for previous generation GPU, but 1k is too much

    • Two year old model.. still second hand albeit refurbished..

  • How many laptops are available? VERY limited numbers from past experience.

  • second hand, 4th gen cpu + 850m for $1K = no thanks.
