I've just discovered two pretty great phones on sale. The Xiaomi Mi4c has great specs for its price. The Xiaomi Mi Note Pro is also excellent bang for buck and looks to have taken a huge, long awaited price cut. Need to sleep but phones are as follows: (will include more in-depth specs tomorrow evening)

From memory the mi note pro out performs the redmi note 3 pro? Also has more RAM, higher res and faster CPU.

    • +1

Battery life is a different story with 4100+SD650 vs 3000+SD810, thermals as well I'm guessing from the Firedragon 810 (v2 altho) in the Mi Note Pro

      • the sd810 thermals are ALOT better in mi note pro its v2 or v3 if i recall, its not even an issue, cant say the same for battery obviously.

        • +3

Stay away from phones with SD810 chip… apart from Flex2, Mi Note Pro also suffered from the same problem, and XiaoMi, like LG, was eager to deny it:

Mi Note Pro Reported To Suffer From Overheating Issues As Well

However, I should note that that was news from last year.

XDA had an article regarding the PR play down on the overheating issue:

          SD810 Phone with Issues

If you like the affordable flagship of XiaoMi, better get the non Pro instead; there is a reason why it is more expensive than the Pro version, even if it only has 16Gb:

          Xiaomi Mi Note from AliExpress

        • @0zbargained: How about Xiaomi Mi4c, does it overheat?

        • @bargainaus: It's temps shouldn't be anything like the SD810 with the LG G4 as a reference device but benchmarks show the SD650 in the Redmi Note 3 are marginally better than the SD808 in terms of CPU and GPU. Take your pick, (RMN3) metal body+battery+newer chipset+sd card vs (Mi4C) smaller design+superior camera

        • +4

@IceyChow: Redmi Note 3 is 5.5 inch! While my GF might be happy (!) with it, it's too big for me. :(

        • @bargainaus: Mi Note Pro even larger : 5.7 inch

        • @IceyChow: You mean Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro, or Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 (non-pro)??

        • @bargainaus: Keep in mind the bezels are relatively small, not Oppo R9 or Sony XA Ultra small though :c also that the Mi4C may be getting phased out by the Mi4S (same phone with metal body, doubt it will though since it's pretty much same internals).
Not too sure on the naming, I know the Pro is definitely the SD650 but in HK where I got mine, the SD650 is marketed without the Pro branding, either way 650>X10

        • +2

          @IceyChow: Well summarised.

I don't know if the analogy is correct, but comparatively, SD650 is a narrow pipe with faster flow, and SD808 is wider pipe with average flow… In the end, an average user wouldn't bother with the difference.

I would rate them as (in increasing superiority):
          Camera — RMN3Pro < MiNote < Mi4c
          Software upgradability — MiNote < Mi4c < RMN3Pro
          Build material — Mi4c < RMN3Pro < MiNote
          Features — Mi4c < MiNote < RMN3Pro

I'm struggling between MiNote and RMN3Pro, because while the former has better camera, its 16Gb ROM won't cut because no SDcard support. (64Gb version no longer available)

RMN3Pro has so much more software support/upgrade prospects, it really is a better option. (Hate the camera though)

          @IceyChow: From Xiaomi website - http://nis-store.com/xiaomi-smartphones/

          Xiaomi Mi 4c - SD808/5.0"/Plastic/3080mAh/132g/microSD
          Xiaomi Mi 4S - SD808/5.0"/Metal/3260mAh/133g/microSD

          Xiaomi Redmi 3 - SD616/5.0"/Metal/4100mAh/144g/microSD
          Xiaomi Redmi 3 Pro - SD616/5.0"/Metal/4100mAh/144g/microSD

          Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 - MTKX10/5.5"/Metal/4000mAh/164g/microSD
          Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro - SD650/5.5"/Metal/4000mAh/164g/microSD

          Xiaomi Mi Note - SD801/5.7"/Metal/3000mAh/161g/microSD
Xiaomi Mi Note Pro - SD801/5.7"/Metal/3000mAh/161g/microSD

It appears to me that either Redmi 3 or Redmi Note 3 Pro is better (just want 2G/16G option, will use microSD), Redmi Note 3 (non-pro) is kind of a lemon.

        • @bargainaus: I have a friend who got a MTK Note 3 (2/16 as well…) but it seems to be running fine, putting the MTK/SD bias' aside, the MTK processor allows you to change between CPU power profiles, haven't actually played with his but from a Meizu M2 Note (MT6753), it appears that you can turn off cores depending on which profile you set;
          Power Saving: 4 Cores
Balanced: 6 Cores? (maybe its a 'depends on how much power we need' setting)
          High Performance: 8 Cores
The MT6753 with its 1.3Ghz cores wasn't really fast enough to feel the difference in the first place though.
I wouldn't call it a lemon but more as cost cutting on Xiaomi's side as they just carried over the Redmi Note 2's set up as well as conforming to all the other Chinese brands that hyped up the X10

@0zbargained: If you really value and use the camera that much, it forces you away from the 16GB (10GB usable) MiNote. Ignoring the superior battery, it is possible to live with 16GB as long as you are organised enough to transfer old photos out of your phone (I'm not whoops), you could always fish around for a second hand MiNote as they are not worth the $400+ prices online for new, I found a Bamboo-backed 16GB Mi Note for $250 on gumtree at the time of upgrading/sidegrading for me and it was also in mint condition. (Wanted to upgrade from my Z3 with the same SD801 at the time, but it appears that they are similar in performance but my Z3 sucked at thermals)

        • @IceyChow: Redmi Note 3 (non-pro) is MTK, I have summarised above. Also, it does not have microSD slot, so there's that.

I reckon all Xiaomi phones support OTG?

        • @bargainaus: 4c have been discontinued from last week.

        • @IceyChow: nvm, already clarified in comments :)

        • @IceyChow:

G4 runs SD808 hence it's not the same.

        • @neonlight: Woops, I meant the G4 was a reference device for the SD808 vs SD650, casual midnight mistake

  • Looks like a great phone. I think the successor to this is due for release any day now

    • Which one ?

    • +5

      Mi Not Pro?

    • Yeah, for a higher cost then the Mi5.
      This is a great deal!

  • +1

Paid $365 for my mi4c in december last year… the phone is very capable and once on android 6.0 it is quite impressive for its price.

  • +2

Great price for the mi4c - its only drawback is the lack of extendable storage.

  • I desperately need a new phone is the mi note pro worth it? I'm on a limited budget =(

    • Its more phone for your dollar than anything else you can get new.
This phone was over $600 until recently.

  • +1

Hmm, tosing between Mi Note Pro and Redmi Note 3 Pro.

    • me too, thinking about buying a xiaomi phone for awhile now but not sure which one to get!

    • I looked at this phone too when it was posted a while ago.
From a few responses, there is no global ROM for the MI note pro where as the 3 pro can be flashed with a global Rom some sellers have phones which seem to come with global ROM already installed.

But, this is a great price for a great specked phone…It's very tempting.

EDIT: In description says they can open the box and install a global ROM. Unsure now

  • +1

farrrr the mi note pro is heck of a deal, personal pick in this deal

  • +2

OP or other people who bought just because it seems cheap, dont you guys use the Chinese Phone price tracker kimovil

    http://www.kimovil.com/en/where-to-buy-xiaomi-mi4c

The mi4c can be had for just US $120 on Aliexpress . Link below:

    http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Original-Xiaomi-Mi4c…

    • +1

Is that not the same phone in the OP?

      • +4

Oh yes it is , US $110 is AU $165. Sorry for the late night noobie error :P

    • not the same phone.

      your link : Xiaomi Mi4c
      4 core CPU
      2GB RAM
      16GB internal storage.
      5" size (smaller phone)
      no Touch ID

OP's deal : Xiaomi Note Pro
      8 core CPU
      4GB RAM
      64GB internal storage ROM.
      5.7" size (bigger phone)
      has touch ID

  • How would these compare to the UMI super? Can pick one of those up from geekbuying for under $300 ~ the same as a redmi note 3 pro

    http://www.geekbuying.com/item/UMI-Super-5-5inch-FHD-Android…

    • +1

Lol dont buy a Mediatek CPU/SOC phone when you can have the Snapdragon 650 powered with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage Redmi Note 3 Pro for just US $170~$180 on Aliexpress/Gearbest/Everbuying. Geekbuying is for the rich guys who wants to buy at 20% higher cost and still get it 2 weeks later !

      • you're suggesting the note 3 pro is better than the umi super then? A 3gb ram SD 650 phone is better than 4gb with a helio p10?

        • Yes, the p10 is nothing fancy and is along same tier as x10, the sd650 is on another level and will also get software update easier than mtk.

        • +1

But its a UMI , you will be stranded with no firmware updates and lots of bugs and other issues. Mediatek SOCs tend to have outdated and slower GPUs. Even if the core count is more, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 will probably be faster in real world usage. The Redmi Note 3 pro have lot of after market firmware/ROMs in XDA, also weekly updated ROMs in xiaomi.eu

    • UMI phones are awful. Stay far away. It's got much slower CPU/GPU combo, so don't really see why'd you get it.

  • +1

I just bought this phone last month from eglobal, it is a really nice and beautiful phone. Just don't play games on it as it get really hot very quickly, a lot worst than LG G Flex 2 and a lot of hotter than most phones.

    • You mean the Mi NOte Pro I guess

      • Yes, MI Note Pro, paid almost $450 for it delivered. Also, it is very slippery as well, but it is really a nice phone.

    • What ROM is the printer you have running please. Did it come with Google play store or did you install it.

      • +1

Yes, it comes with google play pre-installed. Running on Android 5.02 MIUI 77. Not sure whether this one from Aliexpress is pre-installed with play store.

  • +3

The more I see of these deals the more I wonder if band 28 is worth having over a better spec'd (and cheaper) Chinese phone. Living in regional Australia I'm still coming down on the band 28 side, but boy is it tempting.

    • +3

Band 28 is a blanket statement these days. My wife and I both use Nexus 5X whilst mine's H791 and hers' H798. I have done numerous tests at different spots in VIC. There is 0 difference so far. People claiming b28 doubles your 4G speed is pure BS.

If you are already living in an area with weak coverage then by all means do your research; but like me if you live at the suburbs I would strongly recommend you to save a hundred or two rather than chasing that "4GX".

Also a serious question, what the hell are you achieving by using 100mpbs (vs 35mpbs) on your phone? Just so that you can burn your data allowance in 5 mins?

      • +1

I think Band 28 is more about future-proofing. It seems to be where both Telstra and Optus are putting their efforts in for network expansion. As networks get more congested you don't want to be stuck in the slow lane with all the other plebs.

That said, I had a non-28 phone for a while and noticed no difference for general browsing or spotify streaming.

        • +1

I get your point but I still don't think it really matters at least for another 3 years. The slowest 4G can still easily offer 25+mpbs. That is more than 3 megabytes per second. Your entire song will get loaded in about 2 to 3 sec.

Not many people actually get that speed even with home broadband. Most people only load text, images, low res videos and music on their phone due to data cap. Even congested 4G network wouldn't give you any slow downs on these tasks. Once H265 encoding becomes the norm(1/4 size of current videos), you will have even less to worry about.

My home broadband has 22mbps at best and I can stream Twitch and Youtube at best quality at the same time + multiple people browsing on the phone. How many people can afford to burn data this like using mobile broadband?

        • @MadMaxBargainRoad:
The speeds are fine when it's just you watching youtube.

It's when another fifty people are ALSO watching youtube on the same tower you'll run into problems. That's only going to get worse, and if all the expansion is in band 28…

But yeah, if you're a frequent upgrader, then I don't think it matters at this time. Especially since you'll be paying double for the same spec plus band 28.

        • +2

          @KentT

4G should be good for another 5 years before we need 5G
this phone should be good for 3 to 4 years before you throw it away and upgrade to something better.

If there come a day when you have unlimited download from a Mobile phone plan, you won't be using the phone to share the internet connection, you will be using a dedicated Mobile Broadband Router instead.

      • +1

My Xiaomi Note Pro can get more than 30 Mbps download speed consistently on Telstra 4G, not too worried about 4GX.

      • As I understand it, the lower the frequency the better the coverage/range and the worse the bandwidth. Band 28 at 700Mhz is easily the lowest frequency over 3G or 4G so I figure I'm bound to get at least some kind of connection (although voice is almost exclusively 3G still) in more places if I have a phone that supports it.

Which yes, wouldn't be much of an issue if I lived in the suburbs.

No idea if a signal being 3G or 4G affects its reliability though, that one's been a lot harder to Google out. Maybe it's just a stupid question.

      • Agree. Band 28 support is not important as long as you get 4g its fine. Heck even HSPDA/H+ is fine.

  • So Xiaomi Mi4c will be good with Optus/Vaya network, and supports OTG (USB host)?

  • any good deal for Xiaomi MI5 64gb? and how about warranty when purchased from Aliexpress?

  • shame they can't have more of the strayan bands supported

  • Am I the only scared little chicken who never bought anything from Aliexpress (is AE & Alibaba the same by the way?) around here? Are they similar to eBay & Amazon in terms of e-security & customer protection? I read some scary stories about them a while ago and haven't tried to register an account with them yet.

    • +2

Aliexpress's customer protection is better than eBay in my opinion.

      • Wow! I was paranoid for nothing then. Thanks for the 411, mate.

    • +3

Seller will not get your money unless you've received your item. You have to login to your account and update item received before the seller gets his payments.

      • That's amazing. I always thought it was kinda dodgy and half of the time you either get scammed or receive poor quality items. It's time I create an account with them then, since there a lot of cheaper stuff on AE than eBay. Ta.

        • If the item is not as described then you don't have to mark it as received. Contact the seller and if he did not fix the problem you can dispute it and get your money back plus if the item actually arrives late you can keep it since you've already disputed the case earlier.(Saw some dude's comments on Whirlpool Forums) :P

        • @HandsomeMonkey: That's dope! I've created an account last night and bought few small, cheap items as a practice so I hope I'll be a successful convert soon too. :)

      • wait sorry how does that work? Is that for expensive items only or something? I've bought a bunch of (cheap, sub $5) things from sellers on aliexpress and they've always immediately taken money from my credit card

        • +1

Aliexpress holds onto the money while the seller ships the item. Once you've received the item and confirm it's all good, then AE will release the money to seller.

    • Never had any problem with Aliexpress. Wider range than ebay and more secure.

I also don't feel being ripped off by the ebay/paypal gangster corporates.

  • How would the Mi4C compare to a Nexus 5?

    • +4

Better. The 4c is similar to a Nexus 5x.

  • These are made in China but languages available on website description does not include Chinese. Can anybody confirm?

    • The Chinese version would have Chinese/English and if you flash an intl' rom you will get the full Android language pack.

      Either way, you are safe.

  • No band 28 ? Can anyone confirm.

    • Made for Chinese market not international so no band 28 …..with 2G closing this year so more moving to 4g, 3 g is already congested, not sure why you'd want a phone with no band 28. No point having fast phone and slow download.

    • You will not miss Band 28. Still get over 80 Mbps on Telstra (4G on Aldi). If no band 28 in coverage area then drops to 3G…still well over 10-20 Mbps…Plenty fast enough for streaming video.

  • is it worth saving the $100 on the 4c, if you don't mind what size the phone is ?

i need to get my dad a better phone(galaxy ace has not aged well) and i am thinking of just getting him the cheaper one.

i doubt he will need 64gb or the extra RAM but i can't pull the trigger ..

  • RE band 28 - I saw this post on XDA about unlocking additional bands on this phone, including 28. I haven't had a chance to read the whole thread yet, looks interesting? Someone with more expertise might be able to weigh in. http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-note-pro/development/how-…

    • They just need to change the firmware for band 28, but it seems they can't be bothered as it's not used in China. So options are unofficial firmware and DIY support if you are time rich and don't want OTA updates

  • Very tempted to go ahead with the purchase of the note pro as my iPhone 5s went for a swim… Wondering how long shipping usually takes? Anyone have any experience?

    • would suck if you waited the whole 45 days.
$23aud will get you dhl for 7 day del, also that processing time of 7days doesn't fill me with confidence.

do you think that is just a worse case scenario in case they are swamped with orders and don't want emails hassling them ?

      • Yeah the processing time doesn't help. I need something soon and I guess can justify spending extra for DHL but still that could be a 2 week wait all up :/

Tempted to get the local Oppo F1 that's on offer from bigw… It's cheap enough and specs are okay.

    • 2 days for processing and dispatch. 2-3 weeks for standard shipping (I believe). Seller use SG Post as their courier. Still waiting for my Note3 Pro lol. DHL is much much faster. I think u can get it within a week.

    • I bought a Note3 Pro with DHL shipping last Thursday from the same seller. It is still being processed today. Sucks waiting cause I shattered my Oneplus One screen. Seller usually takes 1 day before responding to messages.

  • +4

The Mi4c @ $150 mark after cashback is the absolute king. What the spec sheet doesn't tell you is that Mi4c has the best FHD screen and a great camera out of almost all Chinese phones.

This is the budget phones we need. Not a bloody Moto E or a $350 Moto G.

    • +1

Running the same chipset as the Nexus 5X. Agree it is an insanely good phone for that money. Only issue is that they are extremely slippery, you'll definitely need a case.

      • Yeah a case and a screen protector as there is no official word that the screen is scratch resistant.

    • Except it has only 16gb internal storage which is bit small for most people. 32gb is more ideal. With no expandable storage I would aim for 32gb.

Also need a glass screen film on it

I think the 32gb is not on sale hence just wait I guess

      • Yeah, if you tend to use this phone at it's full potential; 32g is a much more sensible choice.

  • reviews say the note pro (snapdragon 810) has overheating issues… guess ill wait for a successor

note 3 is too small and mi max is too big, i want something between 5.5+ to 6" to play games on :D

    • maybe that's why they discounted this phone heavily.

    • Don't buy MI Note Pro if you wants to play games on it, it overheat too much and too quickly.

  • Bought Redmi Note Pro 3 last Friday. Should I cancel and get this one instead?

  • How do you pay without bank charging currency conversion?

    • Pay with 28degrees Mastercard

    • or Citibank Plus Debit card

  • Bought the Note Pro last month for $100 more :( Great phone though!
