Remix Mini Android Desktop PC for US $49.99 (~AU $68) Shipped, Email Subscription Required

240

Regular price is US$89.99, but to get US$40 off, go to http://www.jide.com/remixos-for-pc#downloadNow and click Download Now, then click Torrent Download and a dialog will pop up offering subscription and US$40 off a Remix Mini.

This is a great little PC running a nice looking new version of Android (as used on phones) that has been redesigned for use as a desktop PC. For pictures of the desktop see http://www.jide.com/remixos

Comes with access to the Google Play Store, including access to Android versions of applications like MS Word, MS Powerpoint, MS Excel which are freely downloadable from there.

Monitor, USB keyboard and mouse not included. Two USB ports are available on the device so best to use with USB keyboard/mouse combo that uses only one USB port.

Very easy to use… my mother in her 70s is now using one of these for her internet access and email.

Once the Remix Mini computer has power, simply touching the logo on the top of the device for about 1 second puts the device to sleep or wakes it up.

Comes with 16Gb storage, accepts micro-sd card/usb for extra storage.

Has HDMI video output only. To connect to older monitor with VGA, this adaptor works well http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Ugreen-HDMI-to-VGA-cable-Mini…

Has a network connector and support for WiFi networks.

Supports audio output over HDMI or via earphone jack like a phone.

Has good support for network printers via brand-based print service plugins from the google play store. Direct USB-connected printer support is limited but possible via a paid app in the google play store called printer share. For the USB-connected printing app, see http://www.printershare.com/help-mobile-supported.sdf for list of specific supported printers. Network printing can also be done via printers that are connected to a switched-on Windows computer elsewhere in your network that run the google cloud print connector, see https://support.google.com/cloudprint/answer/1686197

  • I've seen these in a few places now, look like a nice unit.
How does the OS skin stack up in terms of usability?

    • I've only used it on my laptop for a few hours but found it surprisingly usable. It really depends on the Apps you use in how the display but for general Browsing/Netflix/iVew etc it's as easy as an iProduct.

    • OS is great and got good reviews. This hardware got bad reviews, under sped'd. I'd avoid.

      • Is it feasible to install the OS on better specced TV box, or would it be like trying to get a phone skin work on another brand?

        • Yes , this can be done (I believe you are talking about old HTPC and not an android TV box , if so the steps may vary and I need to research a bit ) .

I'm a mod at the Jide Community and there is a wide support for many devices .

It is currently in Beta and supports a wide variety of hardware

A small intro/guide to how to get to it :

  • +1

I have one and it is highly useable for all the apps I tried.

It isn't quite as zippy as late model computer with Windows but it isn't a problem.

I also have the OS installed on an Intel i5 notebook PC and the Mini's performance is faster than running on the PC (I think there are some inefficiences in the current PC version).

The box is small enough to hide behind your on-wall TV turning a TV into a very useable general purpose computer/smart TV, running Netflix app, etc.

    • Great concept. Thanks dcam.

Is it a big hassle to use it onto your TV and make it like a smart TV? Would u need a mouse for that if you want to run some apps? I currently have a Chromecast which streams through via a Mob or a laptop. I want to do a bit more as in, video streaming through Chrome browser…

      • I wouldn't recommend using this OS on a TV as it is best suitable to use as a desktop PC.

I have used on a TV and the text and icons etc are just too small… If you were to use a device to play Web embedded videos through Chrome browser, I suggest going with an android box with S905 processor and 2GB RAM. That will make a really good smart TV box.

Hi, it is AUD $53.53 in GearBest.com http://www.gearbest.com/tv-box-mini-pc/pp_363313.html

which is cheaper compare to USD $49.99 Jide website: https://shop.jide.com/en/detail?pid=10&fcode=IB13MTTJLBTZTWO…

    • Haha gearbest

    • Looks like this is the "2GB RAM Memory" version too.

  • There is a better spec version with 2gb ram and more internal space.

  • +1 for description

  • I got the 2GB version in the original kickstarter. It's very good for what it is, but don't expect it to be a full desktop replacement due to the hardware.

  • One update - Microsoft Apps like Word, Excel, Powerpoint are installable via a tool the vendor provides. They're not installable directly from the play store.

  • Can anyone recommend a cheap/decent monitor that it'll work with(simple plug & play)?

    • +1

I'd be looking at the council clean-up/Freecycle/Gumtree for a 17in/19in monitor. Should be free/close to free. Or just any HDMI TV.

    • Can anyone recommend a cheap/decent monitor that it'll work with(simple plug & play)?

Any monitor. Preferably with native HDMI, to save the cost of a dongle.

  • nice project, but need a better hardware, to play 10bit/4k movie files i guess.

  • Can this software be installed in an intel NUC or say any other better spec'd PC or android media boxes like minix U1?

  • +1

I have used Remix OS on my Tronsmart s95 Meta box and it is surprisingly good. Not laggy at all. Great if you want to use it for a desktop PC.

    • Different specs.

  • Roughly AU $70

  • How is this device compare to one of those chinese Android sticks?
