Acer Chromebook 11, 2016 edition. I am using one right now, the screen is FANTASTIC for such a low price device! Performance is average, can open up to about 12 tabs and then it bogs down. Will run all Android Apps in September when it receives a software update!!! Very light and portable. A good laternative to cheap Windows machines, especially when it will run Android apps in the future! Great for videos and browsing. Speakers and keyboard are also very good. Touchpad is average. See reviews on Amazon, most are very positive.

Chrome itself supports many codec and you can load files from local download directory or SD card. There's also a VLC port for Chromebook which is actually an Android app and doesn't run optimally. Hopefully upcoming ChromeOS release would fix that.
you could use the VLC player for all avi, mp4, etc files from chrome shop
16GB storage isn't really the problem for a Chromebook, but 2GB RAM might be. If you are working with lots of tabs then 4GB is preferred. ASUS C201 4GB w/ RK3188 for USD$167 would have been a better buy if they can ship that to Oz…
USB 2 only on that one.
Shipping Restriction: Withing Continental USA only.
Kinda reminds me of the days when Export Controls made a Locense req'd to ship an Intel 80396 outside Sweden, while I was there, eg, in the mid-1980's.
also the screen on that one is worse, poor viewing angles
ive been using one for a couple months now, the panel is by far its best feature, ive been using it mainly to web browse/chat on skype/discord and watch videos, there is a few issues playing some codecs but overall its a fantastic machine for the price.
Where does it say Free shipping to AU?

wow they rolling out android support?
Ive got the old Acer Chromebook CB3-111-C670.
how to find out if this one also going to get Android support? anyone know?sweet! too bad these chromebooks arnt touch screen but anyway still really glad they are supporting android apps soon!
Android works OK with a mouse. Better than trying to use MS-Windows with a touch-screen.
Even my beat up old SH Samsung Chromebook 2 makes the cut [ as does the 2], and they have walked away from them in Aus. Now if Libre office come to the party…
Weight: 1.08kg
meh. Need more Macbook 12 or Vaio Pro weight products.
I realise there is a price difference. But travelling light is far more pleasant :)
Your wallet would indeed be a lot lighter with MacBook 12 & Vaio Pro :)
Quite so! Thus why I want more laptops ([priced] like this) in a similar weight range.
@Lukian: that requires expensive engineering!
@nathan-drake: Samsung notebook 9 looks like a good candidate. Wonder how awful the Australian pricing will be.
@Lukian: yeah im over windows. I'll just buy chromebooks off amazon USA from now. cheap, fast, effective. No australia tax!
Got one of these! The storage space space isn't a worry (16 gig), although multiple face book tabs seem to make it crash occasional. Also there is a bug with chromebooks browser where clicking on links resets the position to the top in facebook, which is minor but a real usability killer. Bug has been filed on it with no reply in like a year.
That's being pedantic though! Oh and the chromebook store is full of "apps" that really just launch an external website chock full of ads. Some great stuff though.
Performance and battery wise, these things are great.
yep battery/screen/keyboard/speakers are great
Can you run Crouton on this Chromebook?
i believe you can but not sure. anyways android is coming out in september, so most of your app needs will be met
Just got it - Crouton runs fine with Ubuntu 12.04 - wasn't able to get 14.04 working and didn't try 16.04 yet. Works brilliantly - full 3D acceleration, even! I was able to play Sauerbraten briefly as well as Extreme Tux Racer…
And just for kicks, I installed Wine after installing Ubuntu via Crouton and was able to run Notepad++ (A Windows application) flawlessly. I think I could also install Steam (natively) and play games.
@Zorlin:
yep this is an epic little machine, wish it had 4gb ram and bezels were smaller but apart from that this is the best value tech i have ever bought, it is now my main computer thats used for many hours per day, i hook it up via hdmi to my 23inch viewsonic and it works very well! ChromeOS is just so amazing after being tired of Windows. With Android apps at the end of the year this will become an epically useful machine@nathan-drake: That was the other thing. That keyboard is ridiculously nice to type on, it even competes with my rMBP.
@Zorlin: yep its much better key travel than the toshiba cb2 2014
what application do you use to play videos when say offline on a flight?
