Good price for These :)
Sony MDR-ZX110NC Over Ear Noise Cancelling Headphones $47.60 (Was $125)
Samsung LS24E390HL 23.6" FHD Monitor $157.60
Dyson DC54 Animal Barrel Vacuum Cleaner $479
If you want proper noise cancelling, look no further than Bose's QuietComfort series
They will blow these out of the water. Buuut… QC25's are like $300 dollar earphones.
Review of the non-noise cancelling version:
http://gadgets.ndtv.com/tv/reviews/sony-mdr-zx110-review-766…
I can't speak for this variant but many of the mid-end Sony's I've tried tend to be very bassy. Something that bassheads will definitely enjoy, but not so great at mids/highs.
Yeh the QC35s come out this week with better sound quality apparently. They're high price tag always put me off even with their awesome noise cancelling. Seems a bit more attractive now with bluetooth and a similar price tag.
I was thining a cheap option might not be so bad but I think I'll just pass
The QC25 is good, but the QC35 is so tempting, even though I have the old iteration. Maybe the QC30 would be good too, but that comes out later. Hopefully it goes on sale between release and Christmas, so I can use the TRS as an excuse to buy something :)
However, 10 hr battery life isn't actually going to last a flight if I use some before and after the flight :/.
@ATangk: battery life of up to 20 hours, but that can be stretched to 40 hours when paired with the included 3.5mm cable
@maxdba:
20 is the QC35, but since I have the QC25, I was referring to the QC30 battery life
QC30 has 10 hours, but I think it's more convenient.
I bought some for flights. They work okay. They are on ear, so take that into account. I used them at work and they do the job. For $50, they are what they are. Of course BOSE are better. They are 6-10x the price.
I just want a cheap pair to watch movies when on Jetstar flights. Would these suffice or do I need to step up a level?
Should be more than enough.
I've got a pair and they do the job. They are on ear not the full all over ones but they still get rid of the majority of the plane noise. I took them on 4 ten hour flights in April and was amazed how low I could have the volume compared to my in ear headphones. Was well worth the $50 investment just for plane use
How do these compare to Beats?
LOL! Had to be asked hey?
Not sure if you're joking or not…
Username should give it away
was there any info in regards to hz or max fps?
im looking for a secondary monitor for playing games.
Will the Xiaomi pistons block out sound better than these Sony ones?
Short answer would be no.
Long answer would be depending on what the noise is, and where you plan to use them. Pistons are obviously in ears so they have passive noise isolation. Active NC is more for louder environments, but each to their own.
Assuming on a 10hr plane trip. Any other affordable alternatives? Prefer in-ear
ANC hands down. I can't speak for how good (or bad) these Sony ones are, but my QC25's do wonders on flights. Hear probably 1/10th of the low jet rumble.
Affordable options? If you're looking for budget then just stick with the Pistons. ANC usually isn't cheap, and very few come as in ear models. I can only name the QC20 off the top of my head, is ANC, but that's not a true in ear model, and will set you back a few hundred $$$. If you are leaving overseas though, can claim back GST and that's nice.
@ATangk: are you talking about these ones?https://www.pccasegear.com/products/24531?gclid=CJmO05Gals0CFQdxvAodNooGzg
@madn3ss:
Well ANC just stands for active noise cancelling. So that's part of their model name for the pair you linked. ATH usually make good sounding headphones, and the price doesn't look too bad. Maybe hunt around for reviews and see if it suits you.
@ATangk: Alright will look for more options.Thank you!
@madn3ss: I have these and they are decent for the price - in my case $69 from Stored DJ.
You just have to bear in mind that sound quality and noise isolation is heavily dependent on the fit with in-ear systems. I didn't find the plastic tips to work that well but the Comply tips made much more of a difference.
The battery case is in line as you'd expect, but kind of sits neither here nor there. It's got a clip so you could clip it to your shirt but since I mostly use them at work I leave it sitting on the desk. You wouldn't walk about with it just hanging however.
are these on ear or over ear?
Hmm to me they look on ear but sites say over ear so dunno
a lot of other sites.. including sony say on ear :S
anyone know if theres leakage
Picked myself up a Dyson AM05 fan heater for $375 never seen it that cheap. Also spewing bought a Dyson V6 for $399 now you can get the V6 Animal for $398 it includes the mini tool. Should of waited!

thank you
EDIT: just got removed….just as i clicked it
The V6 absolute is $517 and well worth it
Picked up Sony MDR-ZX110NC up this arvo. Bought them for my wife to use with her tablet at home (block out kids noise) + long haul flights.
My first impression is that it will fail on item No.1 - block out kids noise ;) These are not even close to my 10-year old Bose QC2 - different league all together.
When turned ON, Sony's appear to amplify sound source, so they do sound like they are blocking ambient noise. Turn them on without sound source, and this is where you hear massive difference between QC2 and Sony. To simulate aircraft noise, I then tested them under the ducted heating outlet and bathroom fan. I could notice difference and that makes me believe that they will perform quite reasonably on flights.
They are not uncomfortable, but still don't feel as nice as over the ear QC2s. They look bulkier but do fold very nicely into tiny footprint for storage. Sony should have at least included the soft pouch + AAA battery to get you started. Not a biggie, but for $129.95 RRP, Sony are being very tight-ass. Luckily as any good Ozbargainer, I have plenty of Eneloops laying around ;)
I can't say that I'm too disappointed with the purchase, and for $45.60 - I'm keeping them (for my wife). If you are expecting anything like Bose QC series - move on and don't bother. I'd say that these perform somewhere around 25% of QCs (and that's comparing to my old QC2s, which are in turn outperformed by QC25s I tested recently).
Overall, not too bad for ~$50 - but if you've paid anything like ~$100 asking price, you'd be disappointed. Real test will be using them on actual flight. They are certainly better at blocking noise than my Kids Philips (non-cancelling) over the ear or any airline provided headphones. If nothing else, they do provide amplification so that will help with in flight entertainment. Unlike Bose, I expect these would be useless for sleeping (ie without any sound source).
clicked order 2 days ago and today received this:
"In regards to your below order due to high demand we have run out of stock, unfortunately the supplier has no stock for 3-4 weeks
Please let me know if you wish to backorder your order or we can refund your order, Sorry for any inconvenience caused"
Asked for an alternative offer and then got this:
"We are sorry for the inconvenience, we do not have anything similar in stock, please note that this is an ebay promotion
if you have an issues please take it up with them, we will organise for your order to be refunded"
And the ads is still running on Ebay!
so guys, go ahead to buy and end up with chasing your money back!
these guys should rename to TheWorstGuys.
What's the noise cancelling like on the Sonys? For eg. would I just be better off with good isolating closed headphones?
