I want to get the sticker or sim but the app only gives me the option of getting the hideous bands. Am I doing something wrong?

I've installed the app and tried to set up, but got to the stage I needed to scan the QR code on my "payment accessory".
So I've ordered my 'payment accessory' but this means I have wear or carry a lame wristband to make payments ? Why not use the NFC built into my phone ?
Thxs OP for the free $10 credit, don't think I'll be topping up after that though.

    • Does the band cost anything?

      • not that I know. I didn't approve any payment.

    • I don't understand either. My phone has NFC but they need to send me an accessory pay for things…whiskey tango foxtrot…Why can't the bloody app just use my phone's NFC.

Is it for post paid only?

  • yes i wish to know too if prepaid will work?

    • Confirmed that it works for prepaid as well. Just used it. Too bad no stickers are left. Using the chip in the wristband.

    Post paid customers only.

    • Not so sure about that: See http://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobile/phones/wearables/cash-by… - specifically: "Choose an Optus prepaid or monthly mobile plan, and depending on your handset grab a Cash by Optus™ SIM, or a Cash by Optus™ payment accessory."

      • I don't know about that, but when I open the app on my phone, it says: "You are unable to use Cash by Optus because of one of the following reasons - You are not an Optus Post Paid customer".

I guess the left doesn't know what the right does at Optus…

I did this, you have to order a seperate sim, it arrives for free by priority post within a few days, theres are some T's & C's on the cash app, 1 of them being if you don't use it after 1 year there is a $1.99 p/m fee unless you close it prior, the cash works anywhere that accepts paypass also.

  • This is weird. It seems that it does not even use your smartphone.
They just send an NFC device that does Paypass exactly like your existing bank cards, credit cards, qantascash, etc.

I thought the whole point of a smartphone payment system is that the amount shows on the screen so you can confirm, and have it work for larger amounts.
This Cash by Optus is a joke. Why? Oh yeah, because $10.

I got my band a week ago. The important part is the small NFC card. You can insert that into the band and wear it around. But you don't have to wear it. You can carry it around however you like (maybe in your phone case). I tried it tonight at MacDonald's and it worked just like paypass/paywave in my other cards.
My phone is a nexus 4 and it's with amaysim; not Optus.
I can't see myself using it once the $10 is gone but I'm thinking about giving it to my 9 year old and putting his pocket money on it.

  • yep worked on my amaysim phone didnt even ask for my mobile i think when i signed up. got $10 right away might try to wrist band paypass tonight not sure if you need to link it and it comes ready to go? btw how do you cancel your account within 1 yr? they dont have my credit card details yet nor mobile so i wonder how would they charge me after 1 year of inactivity?

  • Hmm, I just signed up but no $10. Was it credited instantly? Does this mean that the 10k registrations has been exhausted?

    • Same here. Did you eventually get the $10? If not then this deal should be marked as expired.

    • did you end up getting it?

      • Nope… Can we please mark this as expired?
