No Homes, it means ju don't gotta to pay the "coyote" to get ju across the border man! ;)
Hahah, It is Holmes not Homes
Good laugh though regardless - thanks for that!
I could be wrong here, but I've always interpreted it as a concatenation of "Homeboy", thus "Homes" - I'm not if sure Latinos are big Arthur Conan-Doyle fans?
Anybody else know the aetiology of this particular bit of vernacular? ;)
[edit] Quick look at the urban dictionary reveals that both are deemed correct (if that's not an oxymoron in describing slang); Holmes is actually a misspelling of Homes (as I said short for Homie or Homeboy); but given the imprecise nature of colloquialisms, either now appears to be acceptable! :)
@StewBalls: Cool it esse…
Environmental Officer
To be an environmental officer in a workplace or community group.
Is that a real civil service position or a token gesture at tackling climate change?
More importantly, why isn't this free in the first place?
Why not free? Dunno, but:
- maybe it cost 'em to create the site or content
- maybe it costs em to host it
- maybe it's a fund-raiser for their organization
why call it 'green card' when it could so easily be confused with the US immigration requirement of the same name?
Or more likely the mandatory OH&S green card you need to work in the building industry.
That hasn't been called a green card for years offically but, yeah, everyone still refers to it as a green card (I was definitely confused)
I'd be awfully skeptical of just how useful this qualification really is in the real world…
It's to tackle climate change…
And the paid version included consultancy with an environmental engineer…
I think the website makes it pretty clear it's nothing to do with US immigration…All jokes aside (and there's enough material here for dozens); and regardless of the naming confusion (I'm sure Mexico alone is hammering their servers); useful or otherwise, it's free, so thumbs up from old stingy here! ;)
Giving this a plus, for the youtube video link on the website
It might be free, but what use is it to anyone?
Well yes, it's free, but is the qualification accredited in any way? Or is it a meaningless print-it-yourself cert that will look good on your wall?
Note, I'm not saying the things you might learn are useless, the knowledge might be useful. But I'd hate people to think they can put this on their resume and not get queried on it. Or maybe worse, just swallowed without question by a credulous employer.
Has anyone done any of this yet??
Im registering with it now.
Will actually be useful for me because thats what Im studyingI'm not able to start the course. Can't figure out how.
I'm sure this is a honest initiative for tackling environmental issues, however I can't see this being 'accredited.'
If it is, it's a requirement to list the industry credentials (RTO number, etc.) and I can't see any reference on the website. There is also no ABN number - WHOis lookup of the site (which gives me there ABN no) suggests the site is registered with the one of the directors of the business, however the ABN is doesn't have the trading name - Green Training Co. connected to it.
from the very short reply i got via email "we have applied to have the courses accredited" and that was it no more info.
If so, they have been applying for a long time. They were offering 25% off the courses back in 2008

It takes me long time to find the "cart"
When you click 'add to cart' a little window pops up with a button option to go to the cart…
So, it tells me my browser isn't accepting cookies (Opera 10.51 & also with IE 7)
Opera IS accepting cookies. No other web site that needs/uses cookies tells me IE 7 isn't accpting them.
Anybody seen this happen? Any workaround(s)?
Any ideas as to why this is happening? TIA.
Maybe its your security settings.
I was able to do both courses without issue in ie 7.
Or maybe try firefox?
Hmm.. sneaky..
the website does a trip to www.google-analytics.com (http://www.google.com/analytics/) when you click on 'Add to Cart'
Oh well.. I guess everyone is trying to capture data for marketing purpose.Perhaps if they get enough numbers of people doing their free course it might ad something to their "application for accreditation". As in there may be a "demand" component of accreditation. I'm sure there are many other standards they would have to meet, but….
So what am I qualified for at the end of this course?
