Cheap price for this, albeit a refurb unit, but at least it's coming direct from the manufacturer.
Nearly $100 cheaper than the popular HN deal 2 weeks ago (Damn AUD means it's not as cheap as the March deal)

I know, just acknowledged that, damn AUD
I've heard the Android OS on these are rubbish, but how do they compare to Samsung?
I have a Sony and just bought a new Sony and i find the OS fine, yes takes a little while to get used to but once you do its fine.
I've heard the Android OS on these are rubbish, but how do they compare to Samsung?
Yes, the interface for Android OS is poor compared to say, FireFox OS.
Smart TV's can also insert ads into the UI and menu bars. It's a dirty, tricky method of making extra advertising revenue but makes for a very lousy interface for the user.
thankfully, you can opt out of the ads by finding a well-hidden setting in the menus.
But why the $!@ do you want more ads on your bloody TV
Plug in your own NUC / ChromeCast / MK808 / Raspberry Pi and run your own operating system.
did you end up getting the mk808 to be useable? and if so what did you do?! I found having to use a phone to control and the wifi was horrid enough to not bother ended up in the junk tech draw…
My HTPC as of right now (because I just upgraded it an hour ago) is a Skylake G4400 x86 desktop running windows.
Didn't bother with MK808 or my Pi, both suck at Wifi. Mk808 got sold on gumtree. Pi still works as a mini-NAS. The built in antenna on the Pi3 is however too damn weak and won't work if there's a brick wall between it and the router. And I can't stand the lag and constant freezing because of lack of RAM and slow EMMC storage.
Smart TV's are a gimmick — not a must-have feature that I would consider when buying a modern TV. I can't see why anyone would want a TV with a built in android subsystem that is rarely updated, prone to performance issues and might come with a lot of unwanted bloatware / adware that you never use. Your smart Tv will also become dumb the moment the manufacturer stops supporting the TV or switches off the content servers.
I can't compare, but can't say I'm impressed with my Samsung. The 'smart apps' take an age to load and frequently crash. The TV itself makes this really annoying crackling noise which may or may not go away after 10 minutes (it appears to be related to the amount of white on the screen).
Wasn't planning on buying another.
I don't mind it but I'd still rather pick up a nice non-smart TV and plug my own devices in, like a Shield TV, if I wanted Android TV.
wow few months ago i bought this for a similar price Brand new.
I had a look at this 'refurbed' model when I was after a 55W800C.
But theyre actually 'Seconds' which mean that they could be either:
ex-demonstration,
box damaged or
manufacturer refurbished
Here's a message I got from them asking about their seconds stuff.
They can't tell you which one of the above it is, and they state NO RETURNS on seconds stuff if you don't like the item. Also there could be cosmetic damage on the TV itself.
I decided this is pretty crap and not worth the savings, then picked up a new W800C for cheaper than they were selling it for anyway, from JH Hifi.
I bought a 75" recently from them
Came brand new. Very Slight box damage.
Currently $1498 at JB Hifi so probably worth the small risk currently.
I had to wait a bit over 2 weeks before the Harvey Norman deal popped up that I price matched at JB Hifi, so I wouldn't jump on a refurb/potentially cosmetically damaged one for slightly less unless you're super impatient.
We have the Sony 50" smartTV the 50W800B or something…while the screen quality is great, we are constantly dismayed by the issues we have had with the builtin Netflix app which kept crashing all the time. Also the TV is extremely slow to go to the App mode. Had we known this earlier, we wouldn't have bought ours. Thought this info might be useful.
Yours is an entirely different smart o/s it propriety Sony not android I have the same tv. Did you not try the tv in store before you purchased. You would have seen the slowness.
The 800c version is android I have viewed played with set up added apps (achos media player) and find it quite responsive. Just takes a little getting used to.
I looked at the Firefox o/s(and the lack of apps), its very nice and quick.
$876 seem a very very low price for this tv!!!!!!
Yes on hindsight i should have spent more time research this and try this in store…but it was on sale in Ozbargain and time is running out….so we took the plunge. Yes our fault. I am glad you guys have a better experience.
This is tempting… who is taking the gamble?
I bought this model brand new from The Good Guys. My experience hasn't been pleasant. Wifi interrupts quite frequently and does not reconnect automatically. I have to manually go to settings and connect it almost every time I turn on the TV. As if thats not enough trouble, recently OS started to freeze almost once a day. I am required to reboot the unit each time.
Never had wifi issues.
Only problem is remote sometimes is very slow (nature of android I guess) and it takes a while robe switched on. I was even wondering if the remote was out of battery lol.
Apart from that everything else has been fine.
Me too. I bought this TV also because I trust Sony..boy I'm so wrong.
Have you done a software update for the TV?
There was one released on 06 Apr 2016
My parents need a new TV so I got them the 50" model (KDL50W800C) for $799. They're upgrading from a 32" so I figured they won't miss the extra 5 inches. Also got the Sony HTCT180 soundbar for $103, think it may have been the last one though.
Bought it for 876 from Ebay Binglee about 3 months ago, a great TV, android tv is really good
That was a great deal do I take it your in NSW wish Bing Lee would move west to Victoria
Was it a paypal and collect deal if you remember, would have sold my 50" 800b for one of them
yes once you get used to it Android TV is good.
it was the same price at TGG ebay too and I'm in WA
Yep, it was supposed to be $876 @ TGG after 20% off but ebay stuffed up and transferred the non-discounted amount to paypal for me and now almost 3mo later still haven't refunded me the discount.
Credit card dispute raised.
That aside, the tv is pretty good and has a bunch of features like inbuilt chromecast, Netflix, YouTube and hdd recording. Netflix is no longer working for me (reports some Netflix error that my other tv doesn't).
The guide sucks a bit : too slow, and changing channels through it requires to many ok presses.
One of my wife's favourite features is that it can run kodi and does so without issue.
@reu: Yeah Kodi is so awesome.
@reu:
Oh wow, I better checky my PayPal statement.
Will look into KOdi. There was a movie I couldn't play the other night.
@reu:
KOdi is awesome as it played the video!
The inbuilt video app is crap
Great TV bought it from the harvey norman sale. I am very impressed with it so far.
DON'T FORGET TO CLAIM YOUR $50 REBATE ———> http://www.smartuser.com.au/energy-rebate/ <————
Vic only for those elsewhere.
I have this TV at home. It's pretty slow and very buggy, my apps would randomly crash, especially Netflix. Using Chromecast instead. It's ok, probably should of got a Samsung.
Have you done a software update for the TV?

Yep. Have tried everything and even caked up Sony. Works fine for devices connected to it. I always have to reinstall netflix to get it going.
MMM interesting i use netflix every day on my some never had an issue

As what??
I'd guess it's probably DOA
Has been $876 for brand new before though
