Pay with 3 AMEX cards for a further $150 savings (you will need to make up the price to $1050 with another item)

    • +1

Does this work ?? The Amex t & c says .. one per registered card.
      ?

      • +1

Use 3 different cards. All must be registered.

        • +2

Exactly what I did. Will end up costing $900

        • Only have 1 card :(

        • @petey bobby: Get a fee free Amex branded which gives you one free supplementary card (they are different card numbers). That's what I did just for these Amex deals. Is only used for these cashbacks and Shop Small November.

        • @syba: Which card are you using?

        • @Morien: Amex Qantas Discovery is free. I have this and supp to my husband. So, that's two cards already, if you're interested.

        • @syba:
Thanks :) its too late for this time :( .. but ill do it for next time. i have the essentials card is that the one you mean ?

        • +1

@petey bobby: I have the Discovery, but I believe the Essential and Velocity Escape cards are all fee free. Different benefits of each of them - check out Ozbargain and you'll probably find the best one for you.

        • @syba:
i have the essentials Amex, not all deals work with a sup card if i get one right? Better of getting a Discovery card as well..

        • @petey bobby: If the sup card has a different card number (which it should) it will work.

  • If I was cashed up at the moment (which I'm not, thanks to car reg), I'd be tempted by this.

  • Very, very tempted.

An older model though. No 3d glasses and apparently not great 3d viewing anyway. Not that that really matters as it would get very limited use.

Anyone that owns this want to comment, especially on the UI/Android features and screen quality especially when watching sport.

    Cheers.

I've looked a lot into this tv and people seem to not love Android TV. Apparently it has issues like the TV won't turn on until you fully unplug it at the wall.
I've seen the 50" one of these in action and it's a great panel but the software sort of worries me. That being said, I still might get one.

Bought on of these for work, the main remote has stopped responding twice, and couldn't get it to work with restart. I checked everything, called SONY who had no clue, the second touch remote still worked, restarting through the menu fixed the issue. Since found out you can restart by holding power on main remote for 10 seconds.

You can make the TV half crash by doing something really simple like pressing the home button, then the discover buttons on the remote.

Launching the Iview etc apps sometimes the first click does nothing, the second works. Don't know why.

I think the TV is great, slight lag when using remote, especially if hasn't been used for a while but I don't think it's an issue.

I think the Android aspect of the TV is great, it runs KODI flawlessly, the only issue it doesn't mount the USB drives in the same order (sda1 sdb1 etc)when coming back on from standby, so the movie and TV collection locations change, which makes the library useless. I researched and network drives would be the only solution, or root and mount the drives under different names, which would break OTA updates of android and sony stuff.

If I could afford a TV I would buy a sony knowing its issues. I think it has more benefits than cons.
If I had more money I would by an LG OLED

There were major stock issue when we bought the other month, JB couldn't deliver after a month

        • Just got JB to match one. Looking forward to setting it up!

Thanks for the mini review. Lots of handy info.

How is the lighting where you've got it set up?

I've read some concerns about it not being bright enough in well lit rooms but i want to reccomend it to my parents. Not sure how pedantic people who write the reviews are being about brightness.

        • +1

@chewbot: It's plenty bright for me even with a window in front of it.

        • According to the Sony website there was an update in early April

          http://www.sony.com.au/support/product/kdl-55w800c

Have you updated to the latest firmware? If yes, that means the tv has some serious software issues and possible hardware issues too.

    • Good tv, especially for the price. You'll need to put up with a few issues (I can't delete channels from the guide - for example I would love to get rid of the racing channel) including occasional crashes - all have been resolved by turning the tv off with the remote for me. Speakers are crap. HDD recording now works as of a couple of firmware updates ago.

    • recently went for $798 when good guys ebay had it 20% off on top of this price. Bought one then and really happy with it. No complaints. The UI is easy to use. Haven't downloaded many apps but the inbuilt youtube, presto/netflix etc is really handy.

never used the 3d feature and dont think i will

      • I got mine on that deal, i've found it great apart from it dropping off the network a couple of times and not reconnecting until I had unplugged the power from the tv and then restarted it.

Recently bought the 65" as a spare TV and am well impressed with the Android operating system compared to the sluggish 2014 version installed in my main device.
Plus once you install Kodi and few video plugins your all set!

      Hello money bags.

      • +2

It was cheap, around $1500 delivered with the previous TGG (ebay) deal!

        • $1500 is cheap? I am cheaper.

        • @wtfnodeal: Cheap as chips I reckon! Around $500 off the going price at the time of sale, even shoddy Grays online were selling refurbed models around the 2k mark.

  • Thanks OP. Picked up one of them.

  • Got the 42inch lower version (600series)for 750 2 years ago, when the dollar was higher, am fascinated its this cheap

    No problems with the 42inch

this was on sale during the eBay sale in Nov last year too. Very happy with it!

  • $100 rebate too, $946. Was signed on the TV at HN

  • Thanks op picked one up too, great price

  • I've got the 50" model and I've been really happy with it. Animelab sometimes disappears from the Android TV but other than that I haven't had any problems with it over the last 6 months.

  • I've got this model, good tv, I just wish it was brighter, it is only just barely watchable in my moderately sunny living room. But It does have better colour reproduction and better motion performance than all competitors tv's at it's respective price point. My F8500 plasma is much nicer though, in every way :) God I feel bad for people that don't own one, hehe.

    • I have the viera plasma 50inch, was watching the hobbit on blu ray and its stunning. If this price was for the 60inch i might be tempted to uograde.

      • +1

You should have upgraded while plasma was still around, nothing but oled can step up to plasma. I have the 65" F8500 plasma and it is just fantastic, best plasma ever made imo, it gets way brighter than the Sony lcd while also having deeper blacks and better colour. Only annoyance is that samsung plasmas buzz like crazy, panasonic is much better on that front. I had the 65" panasonic ST60 plasma before the F8500 in my house, I decided to sell the panasonic because it wasn't bright enough for daytime watching, well actually it was only a bit worse than the Sony lcd I have now, but still not acceptable to me. The samsung plasma is just amazing as an all round tv, even it's smart platform is imo better than the Sony which boggles my mind seeing as the samsung tv is a couple years older, but it was samsung's flasghip tv at the time so not unbelievable.

  • is the W800C any different to this model? cheers

    • +1

      This is the W800C. There isn't a W800 model.

      • oh thanks for that

It was only $876 less than 3 months ago.
