you're brave…there's a lynch mob gathering for Kogan in the original ebay post lol

  • Apple Australia store is selling at $829
    http://www.apple.com/au/shop/buy-iphone/iphone-se/64gb-rose-…

Kogan is selling at $871.99 before discount. I believe Kogan has not mark up the price before the discount …….

  • +1

    Avoid Kogan.

  • This is the best price available for the 64gb local or international.
I have an ipad, macbook and iphone in the house that came from Kogan. All have performed without a hitch.
Kogan may have poor customer service, but if you are prepared to risk having to deal with it you can save money.
Comparable grey imports are $779 at DWI and $773 at eGlobal so it is still 10% better than comparable.

    • Is or an au invoice?

      • +2

It says Hong Kong shipping so I assume no GST or TRS refund.

        • +2

Cool I got my Se from good guys, got Amex cash back and am flying within 60 days, so I got au stock for about 700

        • @grasstown: cool story bro

        • @fritzsticker: cheers bro, I actually said it cos someone in the good guys thread said they didn't get Amex cash back from gg with Apple, which I thought was bull

  • +6

Yeah, going OS soon so wanting a tax invoice. Buying from Apple store and claiming GST will be about $50 more than this deal, which I think is probably worth it for the Apple warranty

  • Apple's consumer law coverage in Australia is pretty generous. You won't benefit from that if you buy a Kogan phone, as these are (according to Apple) originally purchased overseas and then shipped here. I think the extra $ is justified personally, but you may reasonably think otherwise.

After jumping the gun and buying one this morning I sort of regret it.

According to Kogan's specs it appears to be not the A1723 version but the A1662 version sold in the US (lacks 4G bands 6, 7, 27, 28 and 38-41) that are needed for Telstra's 4G LTE and their newest upgrades.

    • cancel the order then.

      • I messaged Kogan asking them to confirm the code. Will update back.

        Update
And I got the most generic response:
We source our products from all over the world from various suppliers. We are unable to confirm the actual product code.

        • Cancel the order. Say the reason is they can't confirm it is model xxx needed for the 4g in Australia.

      • +2

After getting the same scripted response from Kogan through eBay I decided to cancel the order.

I would warn others against ordering this. For few dollars more (after tax back) one could get a proper version with Apple AU 2 year warranty.

Sorry but had to neg the deal.

        • Hi edy4eva, could you please tell me how did you cancelled your order. I also ordered yesterday and want to cancel it as it is US model. This is my first comment on ozbargain. Thanks from Buddy

        • @BuddySaysHi: Go to purchase history, then under the item, More actions, Contact seller, Request to cancel this order

        • @edy4eva: Thank you for your advise. Much appreciated. Do I need to give them any reason for my cancellation like it is US model or something like that. Please advise. Thanks again.

        • hope it works out for you.
do you get the money back straight away?

pretty crooked Kogan selling models not fully compatible to the country he sells to, especially seeing they dont mention it on the site page anywhere or even when as you asked the chat people - they wont even say what model it is.

        • @edy4eva: I put a cancel request with Kogan on eBay but hasn't received any acknowledgement. Did you received any confirmation of your cancellation yet? Thanks.

        • +2

@PVA: Yes, Kogan is not trustworthy. Hopefully myself and edy4eva gets the refund soon. Fingers crossed. But going forward, I won't take risk of buying from bogan Kogan. Cheers

        • +1

Its pretty much pot luck, there are 2 versions for sale in the US, GSM only for AT&T which has the aforementioned bands (or lack thereof) and the GSM/CDMA which we get

          http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/#iphone-se

May even be the chinese one A1724

Problem is you never know with Bogan… err Kogan where its come from

It might even be from all 3 regions! (with some bits of other android phones holding it together ;)

Kogan responded with the same scripted reply totally ignoring the request for cancellation.

We can confirm that the compatible frequencies for this item are listed on the eBay listing for this item:
        4G Network (MHz) 1(2100) / 2(1900) / 3(1800) / 4(1700/2100) / 5(850) / 8(900) / 12(700) / 13(700) / 17(700) / 18(800) / 19(800) / 20(800) / 25(1900) / 26(850) / 29(700)

Optus uses the following 4G networks:
        700 / 1800 / 2100 / 2300 / 2600 MHz

        Telstra uses these 4G frequencies:
        700 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 MHz

They clearly missed the point about band numbers.

        • yes, no band 28 700MHz but they try to let you assume it will be fine by say 12/700 13/700 29/700 etc.
          pretty crooked.

Here is my response to Kogan:
        Hi xxxxx,
I am afraid your information seems inaccurate.
The critical element to look for is the band number as it designates the signal frequency, duplicity and bandwidth.
Citing the signal frequency is irrelevant because on the same frequency several signals can be broadcast and coexist with varying characteristics.

My concern is that that the iPhones that Kogan sell do not support bands 7 and 28 that Telstra and Optus use for their respective 4Gx and 4G+ marketed services (that are currently being expanded as well).

Therefor, the iPhone ordered will represent poor value for me - despite the great price as I will not be able to make use of my providers' networks to their fullest extent and into the future.

I would appreciate that unless you could confirm the exact version/code of the iPhone SE to be A1723 or proves to support 4G bands 7 and 28, to cancel and refund this order

        Thank you

        • @crazy94boy:
Thanks for the update! when/how did you buy it?

        • @edy4eva: I ordered it on the 2/06, the second day of the kogan ebay sale.. I cant believe it arrived after four days.

        • +1

          @crazy94boy:
That is weird. I ordered it at 10am on the 1st.

  • I am guessing not a great price at all seeing the phones are very limited for 4g in Australia.

  • Hi edy4eva, could you please tell me how did you cancelled your order. I also ordered yesterday and want to cancel it as it is US model. This is my first comment on ozbargain. Thanks from Buddy

  • Telstra and Optus rolling out 700MHz extensively. You'd be nuts to buy this and miss out on reliable 4G performance…

    • its not just 700MHz you need to look for - it is band 28 (there are other bands that are 700MHz and are not suitable eg band 12 700MHz, band 29 700MHz)

  • Kogan says in their website that "This device is network unlocked, international model and slightly differs from local models. We have no affiliation with the manufacturer". It does not say it is US model anywhere. What made OP to say that this is US model ?

    • +2

      In the tech specs tab,

      2G Network (MHz) 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
      3G Network (MHz) 800 / 850 / 900 / 1700(AWS) / 1900 / 2100
      4G Network (MHz) 1(2100) / 2(1900) / 3(1800) / 4(1700/2100) / 5(850) / 8(900) / 12(700) / 13(700) / 17(700) / 18(800) / 19(800) / 20(800) / 25(1900) / 26(850) / 29(700)

which matches US model (A1662) network bands. You can see 4G bands 7, 28, and 40 are missing.

However, crazy94boy confirms he got the global model (A1723), which cover all Australian network bands.

Maybe a typo, but Kogan's customer service can't confirm which model it is.

I Definitely received the hong kong model, it included an British style wall plug. Everything seems fine with it after using it the past few days.

        • +1

I received A1723 model too. I am happy with the purchase.

  • Well it turned up yesterday, A1723.
I can't change the neg, but what a lesson to learn from dealing with Kogan.

  • Also confirm I received A1723 model too. Very happy thanks OP.
