  • is 4G working in Australia?

    • Couldn't find Mi4 with above specifications on GSMARENA.

Mi4i works well in Australia on 4G

    • 4G works fine, but no band 28.

I bought one to try Windows 10 in this previous deal that was both cheaper and more expensive.

      The model number is 2014719.

You can upgrade it to Android 6 Marshmallow.

      • Will this work with Win 10?

        • +1

Yes, but there's no dual-boot and you have to flash the firmware yourself.

          Instructions here.

Mine's currently running Marshmallow, but I'm not a fan. I'll go back to Windows 10. The Win10 keyboard is fricking amazing - I downloaded the Microsoft keyboard for my iPhone too, but it's not as impressive.

Just remember this is a 2014 phone, which is not to say it's not a deal, just that it's quite old now. You can get the Redmi Note 3 Pro (Snapdragon 650) for about $225 AUD shipped which I think is a much better deal for not much more money. Or the Redmi 3 Pro for about $210 AUD shipped. While the Redmi line are not the flagships they are still great quality and both are 2016 devices.

True, but many do not want a 5.5" phone. 5" is the sweet spot.

      • +4

        Sweet spots vary…

I'm eyeing the 6.44" Xiaomi Mi Max.

      • Why is that? I find 5" already too big for one-handed operation, and I have big hands.
No harm going a little bigger.

Says who? Has there been a survey or report that was recently published? Or did you just make that up?

Unless I'm mistaken, those prices are supplied with "vendor"/custom ROM and not the factory/Global ROM.

Upgrading/flashing will void the warranty. I'd pay the extra (around $280+ for a 3GB/snapdragon) for a factory sealed phone that is not stuck on the vendor-supplied custom ROM.

Any comparison should take into account the type of ROM it is supplied with.

Can you show me where on the Xiaomi site it says flashing a ROM will void warranty? That would be insane if true. I compared to the 2GB/16GB version which is more similar to this deal, apart from RAM/storage it's identical to the 3G/32GB model.

My concern with a 2014 phone would be how long Xiaomi will provide updated ROMs for it?

Don't count on any company to provide any updates beyond what's available when you buy.

The Mi4 went from KitKat to LolliPop to Marshmallow - that's a pretty good run, so I'd be surprised if got Nutella as well when that comes out towards the end of the year. But you never know.

It has MIUI 5->6->7 (and beta of 8)
          It has Windows 10
          It has CyanogenMod CM13 (Marshmallow)

  • good deal but,
    bad oz currency

For day to day use you probably wouldn't notice a difference performance wise between this and the note 3 pro. The s801 is still a relatively fast SoC.

You can also install windows 10 on this, so that might appeal to some people.

5 inch screen is another reason why someone may choose this model over the note 3 pro.

Cost difference would be another reason.

The Redmi pro 3 has a lower resolution screen, and uses a slower soc than this. Incredible battery life though, which seems to be it's main selling point.

lower res and slower soc…neither of which are missed, performance is certainly not lacking on both counts.

    • As per my friends, Battery life is huge on redmi 3 pro. most of them are easily getting 2-3 days out of single charge.

      screen is 720p only.

      camera is crap.

      • I have the redmi note 2. Currently it's been on battery (off charge) for 9h 34m and it's on 81% battery. That's using it to play a few games during lunch, take a few phone calls, check emails, etc. Normal use during the day.

No Sd card is a deal breaker.

  • Not amazingly cheap seeing as the HTC one E8 is only $199, and it also supports microSD (important for a 16GB phone) and front speakers. For less than $20 I'd go with the HTC.

  • i think Letv Le1 pro with Snapdragon 810 4gb ram and 64 gb storage with 2K screen for about $260 is much better deal. Letv is a bit unknown brand but they sold more than half a million handsets in a year in India alone. and i heard that they are a big video service like Netflix in China

    • that's a 5.5" phab tho

    • Can you send me a link to that Letv deal?

    • Is Coolicool safe ?? I am thinking of getting it but worried that I might not be able to get it in time before I go on a holiday in July.

Mi5 will be the last one. Chinese government will not let them sell "Mi6". It is a crime to promote foreign Intelligence agency.
