Obviously not the same and you even typed it out yourself - DC 44. This one here is V6.
Real question should be how do they compared to each other. Is the V6 worth that extra?
The V6 HS is $399 at Good guys, which already alone is more than 50% stronger the DC44, also has a bigger main head and overall better pick up performance than the DC44 so for $90 or so extra, if you can afford it in your budget, I would recommend upgrading to the V6.
cheaper to buy the regular V6 and get the attachment separately.

With the $320 vacuum is $375. Much better than $440.
And yes, the attachment is the only real difference between the two models.Edit: Sorry it's gone out of stock, actually.
Maybe wait and see if they relist it.Merged from Dyson V6 Animal Handstick $439.20 Delivered @ Myer eBay
For those who missed out on the standard Dyson V6, this is a good deal for Dyson V6 Animal.
Can Someone explain to me the logic of buying this for ten minutes use? Does it constantly have to be plugged in when not in use? I need a vacuum cleaner and apart from it being cordless what are its benefits?
Buy one then you will know, plus Dyson got a promotion that you get refund if you are not fully satisfied with product within 60 days.
While some people use these as their sole vacuum cleaner, I would say it's definitely best served in complimenting a full-size full-power vacuum cleaner, not just because of runtime, but because a full-power vacuum will always produce a lot more sucking force. These are definitely useful to have for quick tidy ups in between using the big vacuum, and for spills and other small jobs that don't warrant dragging out the big vacuum. You're paying for convenience basically.
I have this & a Dyson barrel & the suction seems comparable.
Thanks, just as I suspected to pay $440 for a vacuum that ideally would expect used as a backup for quick and convenient use. Plus it needs to be constantly plugged in for 3.5 hours to be charged to get 6 minutes maximum use?
Bagless, powerful, light, easy to manipulate. What else would you want.
Cordless is enough of a benefit on it's own.
As for the battery life, it is short but you can generally get the job done within the "26" minutes.
Yes it needs to be charged when not in use. It comes with a docking station that's recommended. You don't have kids do you?
Nothing better than just being able to grab this to clean up a mess, or 1 room, rather than lugging around a normal vacuum.
Plus it's easy to use for cleaning the car, or couches etc when you take off the main stick. Like a mega-dustbuster!
It comes with a charging bay that you can attach to the wall, that holds extra tools too, so keeping it on charge is easy, and I have it on display so visitor use it too, they just want to play with it, but it halves my personal vaccuuming time :)
Doesn't have to always be on charge, but it has a charging dock so its always ready to go.
It has the power of a normal vacuum unlike a $19 Kmart special that struggles to pick up styrofoam balls.
Small & convenient for the car.
Quickly use it after breakfast lunch & dinner if you have kids.
Perfect for vacuuming spiders off the ceiling.
It's handy when you've just upturned your Pringles can (to drink the crumbs) and you totally miss your face.
This is $65 more it's been for a few deals recently, no deal.
(I'm referring to the $320 V6 with Animal attachment bought separately)
$120 more than the V6 without Animal attachment.
Not sure if it's the same model, but at Big W, Dyson DC 44 Animal is $349 ($200 off) right now.
