Woolworths Mobile $30 Pre-Paid Starter Pack for $1 + $2 Delivery, New Activations Get 6GB Data (Online Only)

4310

I've never used Woolies Mobile, but I think $29 off a $30 starter pack is good value. $2 delivery for SIM packs, maximum 2 packs per order.

Bonus: new activations before 30 June get 6GB data (normally 2GB + current bonus 1GB) — details here

According to their Coverage page Woolies "uses parts of Telstra's 4G and 3G mobile networks".

Finishes 31 May, thanks @Sydney and @Obey

Updated:
1. Deal end date
2. Online only
3. Delivery charge and max units per order
4. Added URL to how to get 6GB bonus
5. Clarifying 2GB data is normal for $30 recharge, additional 1GB data is a current bonus
6. Learning that I missed a lot of useful details!

The starter pack has to be activated within 3 months of purchase. thanks Sydney11

12 Gb of data is still available for $33.50 at Woolies (stores)- no bargain compared to this deal but amazing on Telstras network.

  • +1

    Available again, but at $15.

  • Has anyone received a dispatch email yet?

    • Still no notice yet. I guess they got overwhelmed by order numbers.
      Will they cancel?

      • +5

i got told by my mate that he checked with woolworths and was informed that they have all been dispatched.

        • Thanks. I guess they are not sending out dispatch emails because they haven't fixed the bug that omitted the unit number in addresses and spooked people. Looking forward to checking my mailbox.

        • Good news.

  • +1

Please know the actual $30 SIM packs are back in stock, but now selling at half price instead of 96% off.

To some, 50% off these packs may still be a real bargain.

    From the website:

    3GB Data: 2GB data + 1GB Bonus Data^
$1000 Calls: Standard National & International
    Unlimited SMS: Standard National
    Unlimited calls to Woolworths mobiles

    Flag Fall 40c
    Call Rate/min 90c
    2 min call cost $2.20
    Data charged in 1KB blocks

  • Has anyone received theirs yet?

    • +7

Did you click the drone delivery button?
If not then no. It's barely been 24 hours

  • Ok, I've got the dispatch email, and they fixed up the missing unit number. So hopefully in my mailbox in a couple of days.

    • +2

Still waiting for the dispatch email..

  • Yep received the dispatch email today for an order - although the address still doesn't have the unit number!

    Hi XXXX,

Your order has been dispatched and will be with you shortly. Please find the details of your order below.

  • Surprised you can't pay with woolworths gift card

    • At $1 who cares, spend your gift card on groceries instead

  • Mine just got dispatched! Now waiting for my other order under my ms name, lol

  • No dispatch email for me yet. I really hope they fix up the Unit number problem.

    • I called them up & they said it was due to be delivered today or tomorrow. Not got any dispatch mail about it yet though. Perhaps they are still recovering from the severe ozbargaining the were given. I did not have any address issues though so no idea on that.

  • +6

Just got off an online chat with one of their CSRs.

They have clearly been ozbargained and are severely overwhelmed

The CSR advised me that none of this week's orders has been shipped as of yesterday.

They will start staggered shipping from today and people should receive their purchases between tomorrow and Tuesday (subject to Australia Post lead time).

I've also been told that they had an issue recording unit numbers on addresses in their order system which has taken time to fix and caused further delays.

Bottom line: SIMs should be in your hands by mid next week (touch wood).

    • +1

Thanks for the heads-up. As I suspected, Woolies Mobile can't have been doing much business online before if they had all these latent problems exposed by their first OzBargain experience.

      • I guess they never really intended for lots of people to buy SIM packs online given Woolies stores are EVERYWHERE

  • Just got off am online chat and got the following..
Kalatiola: So the order was shipped as of the 24/05/2016 and should be arriving today or tomorrow as standard post time is 3-5 business day

    • Still not expecting anything before next week tho

      • +3

Looks like it's a case of different answer with each CSR. Total shambles.

Good to keep in mind for future reference if you plan to order a SIM pack online and need it quickly

  • Haven't got mine yet, starting to wonder if they'll backflip (That you Malcolm? :) on the dollar deal given they're listed as "In Stock" online albeit at $15 now.

    • My card's been charged so they're going to have to go to more trouble than it's worth for them to refund, or so I hope.

      • +1

Everyone's been told different stories by the customer service reps. Some say their sims have been despatched on the 24th, some say it'll take 5-7 business days. And no one on this thread has said they have received theirs yet. AusPost usually delivers within 3 days. Looks to be a mess.

  • +2

They should offer those who purchased on the deal to collect at their local Woolworth stores and offer $2 store credit for the postage paid. Quicker for those who need the SIM cards urgently and might drive more sales for them. Win win!

    • +2

Have you really thought this thru.

They have to contact everyone to find out which store they want to pick it up from?

The labour costs of that would be significant, phone call, arranging shipping (yep can go in regular delivery to store, but that could be a week away after they get the sims) More logistics issues, they they have to process refunds of each shipment payment. So the costs will far outweigh anything.

and what about those who may have to travel to the stores. I'd prefer mine delivered rather than spend $10 in fuel getting to the store and having to wait for the pimply faced teen, who will spend 30 minutes trying to find my order when it arrives.

I guarantee they got ozbargained and sold so many more than they had in stock, plus system issues with addresses probably means each has to be checked carefully beore going out. (almost 10K click thru's and if each bought 2 thats 20K sims to manufacture and package)

Making Sim cards and getting everything box up will probably take at best 7-10 days. You have to get on the production schedule, plus a lot of other admin tasks to get these into your system. Also it has to be ordered thru Telstra, then their supplier.

I know, years ago I worked for a card issuer and we had a stuff up that took 7 plus days to fix and we tried everything to expedite things

Its a $4 punt on a cheap sim, which most of us wont renew, when it comes it comes. No one has heard anything about them cancelling this. If people really need a sim, they can get one right away at a store and use the new sims next month.

      • +2

It's not a punt when the order is made and sale is charged. Happy to wait personally but a little communication update goes a long way in customer satisfaction.

        • Correct, I meant it was a punt when we made the order. Now they have charged it, that part of the picture is different

      • +3

Well I thought most Woolworths supermarkets already hold the starter packs. This may just help the stores move some stock and get replenished at the same time. I thought it could be just an email out to those who purchased offering them a choice to pick up at a local store where stock is available. Say the email offers an election which can be made by clicking on a link generating a confirmation or a code needed to 'redeem' the sims purchased. No refunds, just store credit. For me, I would use the $2 paid for shipment that didn't happen and use that on buying milk instead. And of course, some may choose to do nothing and just wait for the delivery.

It all depends on the agility of their IT and marketing team to be able to carry out the fix utilising technology.

        • It all depends on the agility of their IT and marketing team to be able to carry out the fix utilising technology.

Clearly this is not something the Woolworths Limited corporation is very good at (being agile & adapting to change that is).

Hence why they are getting absolutely smashed recently by Coles and the german giant Aldi (with the even bigger German giant Lidl coming soon to join the 'beat up').

They are obviously also not very good at buying or creating businesses and keeping them profitable as the DSE and Masters examples show.

Bad news if you're a Woolies shareholder.

Received my two $2 prepaid starter packs today. Expiry on both = 31/12/2017. Damn, wish I had ordered more :(

    • Likewise and also same expiry date except mine say $30 Starter pack

      • I think we all got the same $30 starter pack but PBG just mentioned how much he got them for.

        • +1

          ChillBro

i think that is good reasoning.

Thanks for letting us know what is going on.(PBG & RR)

          Cheers all.

      • +1

Oh yeah, sorry for the confusion. $30 starter packs. Paid $2 each for them (I was trying to refer that I didn't pay the $15 newer deal price)

        • +1

Wasn't meaning anything, just clarifying for others as there were $2 starter packs available, but not on sale

        • +1

@RockyRaccoon: All good Rocky. Sometimes my fingers type faster than my brain :)

        • +1

@PBG: Wish I could get my brain to type my fingers could use a rest.

    • +1

A positive sign. Thanks for sharing

    • +1

May I know why you would want to activate them after 30/6 because then you miss out on the 6GB of data for new activations.

      • +1

With 100/25 NBN FTTP with unlimited data, in my case having a sim for calls is personally more valuable 😀

      • +2

I'm in the same boat as Rocky. I have unlimited internet at home & work, I don't need more than 2GB internet on my mobile. I'm buying these to continue my prepaid SIM jumping for calls & texts.

  • Received my 2 packs today in Sydney metro. Expiry= 31/12/2017. I made two orders a few hours apart, so now just waiting to receive the second order.

    • Did you receive dispatch emails or did the orders just get delivered?

      • No dispatch emails, it just got sent out.

    • +1

The starter pack has to be activated within 3 months of purchase.

      or

      Expiry= 31/12/2017.

  • Ordered Sunday morning, still haven't received, not even any despatch email.

Anyone tried porting between Woolworths Mobile (WM) and Amaysim? What's your experience like? I imagine it will be like between Telstra and Amaysim so should be quite prompt?

    • Did an online chat and was told that all $1 SIM orders were despatched on Monday/Tuesday this week. Hope mine will get here on Monday. Perhaps it takes a day longer to reach Melbourne…

      • Mine received today

      • Mine wasn't sent 'til Thursday according to the label, or Friday according to the postmark.

    • +1

I ported from Aldi Mobile which is telstra wholesale as well to Amaysim few days back. Was done and dusted in 10 minutes.

  • I received 2x SIMs today.

  • Do they require signature on delivery?

    • +2

No, straight in the letter box.

  • +1

No dispatch emails, and I have two orders, but only got one order today.

    No signature, just normal mail.

  • Just got home, nothing in the mailbox for me. Boo. And the operator I spoke to said it got dispatched on Tuesday.

    • Same here, I was hoping to get mine today since I'm Pay to go with AmaySim and trying to minimize my spending.
Also, I'm curious whether or not they do weekend shipping?

      • Doubtful since I seems like it just gets delivered by regular mail. Fingers crossed still though.

      • Belong clearance $20 starter packs are$5 at k Mart if your desperate or need someone to Port over to

      • 'Straya post working on the weekend? Not in this century.

    • -1

why do i get neg? care to explain?

      • Probably because you said you bought 10, that usually doesn't go down well on here.
Also your last sentence is talking about the future in past tense.

        • -2

Thanks for the explanation , i m living in area where all ports are full, can't get internet. it's not a crime to order what I need! Too many hipocrits here. I'm 100% sure who negged me , if they they knew it doesn't ended in 3 months they would bought many

        • +2

@junk3569: ROFL - you have 9 negative votes at the time of my posting, are you really sure which 9 they are?😀 (No Im not one of them, I am an amused bystander.. who admired your balls in ordering 10)

    • Were they all same name/address/card?

      • +2

Yep, received them on Fri. Same name and adress, the conditions says 2 sim per transaction, not 2 sims per person.

        • Excellent- my collection should come soon hopefully!

  • +2

My experience lately re Aust Post is the mail is a lot slower than usual since their cutbacks and charge increase. I sent a form to Melbourne recently and it took 7 business days. The company in Melbourne said they were advised their service would be going through slower than usual processing until the new "procedures" were sorted. If you don't send or pay Express Post it is taking longer by the looks of it.

  • +2

So I also didn't get a confirmation email or anything and didn't note the order number. After not hearing anything for this long I assumed it didn't go through. I checked my cc statement this morning and saw I got charged the $4, so there's hope I thought.

Rang woolies online support to follow it up and gave them all my details and they can't find any reference to my order so told me to get my bank to dispute it with Woolworths if I wanted the $4 back. Very average.

    • and it arrived the next day .. lol, great systems in place Woolies.

  • I wouldn't panic yet
If they don't turn up by Friday I'll start worrying then

  • Just been on live chat……..

Because of system lag and fault, we couldn't send email to customers
We sold the product more than expected that's why there was a delay in shipment

  • +1

I got mine today, expiry date on the packs are 31/12/2017

    • +1

      Ditto, and same 31/12/2017 expiry.
If I had realized the expiry would be that long, then I would have bought 2 more starter packs in the wife's name.

      • Same great deal though.

    • +1

  • Mine just arrived also, a great result.

  • Yes mine here too
Just remember use by June 29 to get the bonus data
Anyone else got a new mobile phone tower in town this week or is it just the marginal seats

  • just got mine in the mail. exp 31.12.2017
    area is 3152

  • What devices are compatible with these sims? Want to use for data, but two different locked Telstra USB modems refused it. I thought being on the same network also meant the same network locked devices would work. A locked Telstra mobile phone worked for calls/sms. It appears the APN is different being mdata.net.au

    From FAQ:

Can I use my Woolworths Pre-paid mobile SIM in a locked phone?

No. Your Woolworths Pre-paid mobile SIM will only work in an unlocked phone. To unlock your phone please contact your current service provider.
    Did this answer your question?

  • Mine arrived. Thank you.

  • +1

Mine also arrived today (QLD) normal postie delivered.

    Thanks member 0230
    :)

    • +4

      You're welcome.

Here's the irony: I ordered before probably 99% of you, but I HAVEN'T RECEIVED MINE YET!

      lol

  • Mine arrived.. Melbourne..

  • I haven't received mine, but by the sounds of things nothing to be concerned by.

  • Not sure if it's too late to comment but mine arrived.

  • Just want to get confirmation please … if we activate AFTER 30 June 2016 (sim expiry date 31/12/2017), we will only get 3GB data instead of 6GB data? Am I correct? Thanks!

    • Yes. Or at least, that's how I read this page — https://mobile.woolworths.com.au/prepaid.html

      • Hi Member 0230, based on the link you provided above I read it as activation after 30th June 2016 one will only get 2GB and not 3GB. As per the link, the 3Gb is made up of "2GB Data + 1GB Bonus Data^" and according to the small print
"^ Bonus data available when you apply a $30 or $45 recharge before 30 June 2016. 30 day credit expiry.". Please have a read and let me know whether my interpretation is correct or not. Frankly, I hope to be wrong as 3GB would be better for everyone. Thank you.

        • +1

That's a fair question. I focused on the date rather than what the "normal" data quota would be like. In that case it's better to ask Woolies direct because my casual reading doesn't tell me when their current bonus of 1GB ends.

  • Realised this was asked earlier but it wasn't answered. Can someone please share their experience porting/churning from Telstra to Woolies and vice versa considering Woolies uses Telstra wholesale. I'm particularly interested in down time.

    • I ported from Telstra to Woolworths last night after receiving these in the mail. Porting was completed by 9am this morning.

Should have bought more of these!
