I'd be concerned about the battery life on these things, but apart from that, I know from experience that refurbished ASUS laptops are pretty reliable!

just bit heavy to carry around a lot.

i miss my old del e4200 that weighed just 1KG. moved to a 1.34 KG VAIO and the extra weight is noticeable when carrying it around at the airport.

pretty good for the money though.

    • +5

1.45 KG is heavy ?? ….. Sheesh kids these days.

    • +2

I think it's heavy when you have other things in your bag too, but it's the lightest laptop I've ever used, particularly with the size of it

  • +1

I had one of these and the performance was great, couple of concerns though.

    1. The hinges holding the screen are a little sensitive so after prolonged use they will start to loosen up and the screen may not hold correctly, google the issue for additional detail.
    2. The battery on average lasts 3-4 hours which is not that great for an ultrabook.
    • Can it run CSGO on low settings? Or WoW?

    • Thanks. No point having a light weight portable if you can only use it for a few hours without charging.

      • depends what you're doing. mine has lasted 10 hours. I think 5 hours minimum, streaming video etc.

  • Does anyone know the screen res ?

    • it says FHD in the title (1920x1200 usually) I think.

    • 1920 x 1080

  • good deal, but any chance Rep of getting refurbs with the geforce 840m (the UX303LN model)?

  • +1

I have a UX303LA, not sure if same model but same specs. It's a pleasure to use.

    Things to note:
    - Unless you have big hands, you need two hands to change the volume with fn+f11/f12 (but I think that's just windows convention. Mac has single button).
    - In Chrome browser ctrl-scroll is the zoom shortcut. Scrolling, then using a ctrl shortcut immediately after will cause your text to zoom because the scroll was not finished. This is a chrome problem and is not limited to this laptop. You can turn the shortcut off with a chrome extension.
    - The touchscreen feels good most of the time, but it's not as good as using a tablet. Still, surprisingly I often use it instead of the touchpad. Steam is the worst for using touchscreen (Big screen mode is passable).
    - The touchpad also feels good, but it's not as good as my old hp2410p(??) business laptops touchpad.
    - Playing some games (Amnesia: Memories) for some reason you need to double tap to do a single click, making it unbearable so use the touchscreen or usb mouse.
    - Occasionally after unlocking the laptop You need to use the touchpad or touch screen because the keyboard doesn't respond. It's as if some invisible window is in focus and the keystrokes are being sent to that. Come to think of it, it might be when I've shut the lid after watching a streamed video in full screen…

Otherwise it really is a fantastic laptop and I would recommend it, though you can probably wait for a good deal if you prefer a new laptop for a few hundred more.

edit~ also, I have had no trouble with the hinge.

    • How long does a full charge roughly take?

      • I think around 80 minutes. 20 minutes ago I was at 20% battery. now I'm at 70% battery and it's telling me 38 minutes till it finishes charging. That seems weird right? Maybe it charges faster for the first part? I think electronics do that now??

        • +1

I think so, my phone does that at the last 20% or so goes down to what it calls a trickle charge.

          Thanks for info

          How about battery life?

        • +1

@Jorkus: bare minimum is 5 hours

        • @Jorkus:

Yeah I get around 5 to 6 hours of normal use. I've also upgrade ram and ssd

      • I'm lazy and I have big enough hands that I can just reach ;) You're right though the volume control is probably easier

    • also, for users of flux, when flux transitions (when it changes the screen colour) everything slows right down or stutters. This happens on my Asus desktop too, and other users on the flux forums have reported it happening for their laptops too. Probably a windows 10 thing. Updating drivers could help, or using flux in safe mode. I uninstalled flux and use SunsetScreen which has no issue

  • Do we know how long the sale lasts?

    • +1

Don't expect any response / feedback from the rep - I've tried to contact them every time for the past 3 deals and no response. Can't imagine their store-based "service" would be any better.

      • Yea, I called to ask what was included in the box. Answer - "We have not opened boxes since they were sent from ASUS, we do not know what is included."

        • Hmm you'd think they'd be aware after stating;
"we have inspected several units and they look like new" " but the contents inside are in the highest possible condition."

        • @Godric: Ended up ordering one. Next day delivery to Melbourne. Laptop was flawless, no marks/scuffs. Battery life has averaged to around 8 hours and overall a very good laptop. Touchscreen is very responsive and the keyboard is fantastic. Only thing I don't like is the touchpad is quite loud clicking.

Note: Box contained the ultrabook and charger only. Managed to get them to throw in the USB to Ethernet adapter for free.

        • @niren1706:
          Score!

          Nice

    • the promotion is end of May(31/5/2016)

      • ^^^ case in point ^^^

  • This'll have to do after Amazon stuffed up my Lenovo YOGA order… XD

  • Can this be upgraded to 512G SSD ? If yes, how much would it cost ?
