  • Arrrrggghhh!

Need discount on HP, so I can buy this:

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/laptops/hp/hp-pa…

    …unless someone knows of a better deal on a 15" / 4GB / SSD laptop?

    • Pity it only has a 128GB SSD. Sure it can be upgraded. I supposed suppliers just don't want to have their machines devaluing so quickly with the rapid drop in SSD prices.

I think touch screens are a disadvantage on machines of this size. Makes for really bad ergonomics, degrades the picture quality and you end up with crap all over your screen.

      • Yeah I don't care so much for the touch screen…in fact, if I find it affects battery life, I am hoping it can be switched off?

  • Good to see most if not all of these pcs have ac wifi.

Pity so few don't have the 1080p screens.

Does anyone know if the 32GB storage in the Lenovo Ideapad 100S 14" Laptop can be replaced/supplemented with a SSD?

    • Like all other small-form laptops with 32GB of storage, it's a non-removable eMMC thing.

You can always grab a large microSD though and keep it permanently in. That's what I do for my ASUS EeeBook X205TA. It helps.

But yeah, it sucks with all these lightweight laptops that the storage and RAM can't be changed at all.

  • Most of the budget 15.6 in laptops have HD screens. Is HD enough for home use or FHD is must for future proof?
It is interesting that 5.7in mobile has QHD while 15.6in laptop has only HD.

    • Most if not all HD screens are TN panels with poor viewing angles. If that bothers you get a better screen.

      I hate cheap TN panels

  • Tempted to grab one. Was planning on replacing the HDD with a spare SSD I have. The guy I spoke to in JB Hifi told me that this could be a problem as the laptop does not come with an actual Windows 10 Licence Key even though it's pre-installed on the hard drive that it comes with. He claimed that if I replaced the HDD it would require a licence key and my only option would be to purchase a separate Windows 10 licence. This sounds odd to me. Has anyone come across this issue?
