7% Cashback from TopCashBack at AliExpress

680

If you've never heard of Aliexpress - it's a gigantic marketplace where you can get pretty much everything under the sun. The prices are usually cheaper than eBay/dealextreme/banggood too.

7% is a higher rate of cashback than usual for Aliexpress - and doesn't appear to be limited by category.

The current Topcashback referral signup deal also gives a $5 USD Amazon voucher after $10 USD cashback earned.

I bought a lightweight camping chair that is basically identical to the $124 AUD helinox chair one for about $30 AUD shipped (+7% Cashback).

Other items I noticed:

  • The 8bitdo SFC30 bluetooth SNES controller ($26 USD shipped) and adapter ($20 USD shipped) that lets it work with a NES. Supposedly these are lag free.

  • Fluke 17B+ multimeter ($100 US shipped). I got one from DX a while back and it is identical to the real deal - wouldn't trust the calibration statement however.

  • Optivisor clone ($16.30 USD shipped). Looks identical to the original that I have + you get all the magnification lenses.

  • USB microscope ($35.70 USD shipped) similar to the Andonstar Dave thought was ok on EEVblog.

    Things to note:

    • Only purchases made on AliExpress's US site are eligible for cash back.

    • Please note that some merchants may not be forthcoming with untracked cash back. We endeavor to chase untracked cash back but reserve the right to halt inquiries at any time. Please do not make purchase decisions based on expected cash back as it is not guaranteed

SO basically they are admitting that some merchants on Ali Express may deny your cashback.

    • There is no Australian Aliexpress - so not to worry. Just click through the link on the page and it should take you to the right place.

I have received cashback from Aliexpress before on Topcashback. As you say though YMMV.

Personally - I was buying the chair anyway.

      • I'm pretty weary because they admit this in the T&C before they navigate you to the site.

        • TCB is one of the good guys - if you do an inquiry about missing cashback they usually come through (only time they didn't was when a greater than 100% cashback was exploited the heck out of - they revised it down to 100%).

          No guarantees though ya.

          @gringo:

If they are anything like JD, then i would avoid them.

When JD had the 3 cents promotion, i ordered a few things on 2 accounts. 4 of the 6 things i ordered were faulty.

During the sale, i also ordered a few things at full price, Android remote and an Android KB (cost me ~$15). Both were DOA out of the box . Emailed retailer and JD and none were helpful.

Sometimes you better off ordering from ebay (usually the same price, same sellers too most of the time) and you have the luxury of Paypal protectin

          Just saying.

          @easternculture:

Hasn't been my experience at all (many orders, all arrived fine) - but I usually don't order electronic stuff. Never did order anything from JD - so dunno about them.

I just go with whoever is cheaper after discounts. Do a $10 signup at TCB each time + 7% and the item almost pays for itself.

@easternculture: Never had any issue with AliExpress. The system is based on escrow, the Vendor gets paid after you validate you are happy with your purchase. Twice I bought items that were damaged on arrival and both times the price paid was refunded and no need to return the item. Likewise with eBay and paypal, this was resolved to my satisfaction.

Your point about JD maybe true, but this has nothing to do with JD, so what the point here?

Aliexpress offers just as good protection as Paypal.

Aliexpress has items not found on eBay, and sometimes cheaper, and then again sometimes more expensive. Like Coles and Woolies.

7% rebate is a great reward vs the 1-1.25% offered with ebay sales

        • +1

@easternculture: Aliexpress have protection like ebay resolution centre. I have used it for faulty products and products not delivered and it works.

        • @gringo:
          Nice tip Gringo. Gracias.

        • +4

@RockyRaccoon: I would say Aliexpress is superior to PayPal in every way.

        • @gringo:

          "Do a $10 signup"
It appears you only get this after your referee earns $10 cashback
I guess maybe your referees are yourself, correct?

        • @eotwawki:

They vary it a bit.. regular to be $10 for each, but has been higher (and lower). You can have multiple accounts per household.

Alternately you could go thru ebates - but they have minimum cashback $25 to unlock $10 and 5% for aliexpress.

        • @easternculture: Bought many items from AE. Everything has arrived and worked. Never had an issue. Ali protection kicks butt over PP. With proof, they usually side with the buyer. Steer clear of most electronics though other than remotes and other basic items.

    • Yeah I had this issue with TopCashBack. Placed a ~US$500 order around Nov 2015, and expected US$14 cashback.
A few months later, no sign of it. Submitted a claim… a few months later they replied saying the vendor said there was no record of that order - WTF !?
Took a screenshot of the order in my AliExpress account. They finally agreed to pay it late April so 6 months after order.

  • A lot of the cheap stuff off of ebay comes from here. In fact most of the cheap sunglasses you see in buy swap sell groups on Facebook also come from here. Some of it is ok, some not so much.

    • +2

Many sunglasses on Ali don't have UV protection. Most do though, just don't buy the cheapest ones.

Can't vouch for TC, but absolutely love AliExpress … its my #1 go to for anything techy / electrical (componentry etc). MUCH cheaper than most China-based sites (Deal Extreme etc), and as said above, a lot of eBay stuff comes from here too.

Basically the same type of set up as eBay - thousands of different sellers, with varying prices (including shipping). Best to sort your search results and have a squiz through, and prices can vary quite a bit for similar items. Sellers have feedback / reviews etc - AliExpress holds your payment from the seller until you confirm you have received the goods, which is a nice touch (for the buyer at least).

I've had a couple of sellers unable to deliver goods / or items lost in transit (out of 100+ orders), and each time I've either had the goods resent, or a refund - no different to eBay really.

Sorry to break your stride guys but AliExpress is not exactly some super top secret exclusive site that us noobs have never heard of

Alibaba Group annual gross merchandise volume is over half a trillion Australian Dollars.

    • +4

Well true, but it's worth emphasizing that this site really sells almost anything you care to mention. e.g everything at anaconda/supercheapauto or almost any retail store you can think of - usually including free shipping.

& I don't think it actually is well understood how much extra you can save by stacking signup bonuses + cashback offers with other discounts (e.g. there is no risk in stacking a 20% code with cashback - even if you only get one you are still winning).

I usually find something on Ebay, then buy at aliexpress for less with discounts/cashback. May as well cut out the middle man.

Plus you can also cashout Topcashback as Amazon gift cards with a 3% bonus.

    • +4

No one is claiming it's a secret. OP had a description for anyone who hadn't heard of it.

      Get off your podium.

      • You don't understand…

LoopyLou was into AliExpress before it was cool

    • -1

When it started it (Aliexpress) was risky even Paypal dumped them.
Nowadays, as stated it is likely on average the cheapest place on the net, and a gigantic range.
However I believe there are still lots of conartists and thieves on there. So using commonsense is needed.
Also usually takes longer than ebay to get goods.

      • I always get my items faster than eBay. But depends what you buy I guess. I get EMS delivery.

  • -3

I bought something on Aliexpress and they were fakes, very poor quality. Had to get the money back through resolution center.

    • +4

C'mon… set your expectations. How much did you pay? It's pretty clear products come from mass manufactured Chinese factories and come with differing levels of quality, commensurate with the price. The fact you are surprised by "fakes" means you probably belong in an Australian retail store.

      • How annoying when the seller advertisde that 100% authentic product from a well-known brand and sold to me a fake one.

If they advertised this is an imitation, then I wouldn't buy it. I am very skeptical when buying anything from China because what you see may not what you get.

        • +1

My MO when purchasing anything from China is to assume everything you buy direct from China to be fake.

    • I got two fake Xaiomi powerbanks and I got my money back through the resoluation centre as well.
I still buying from Aliexpress but limit to small transaction.

      • I was planning to buy a Xiaomi powerbank on Aliexpress. How could you tell it was fake?

        • +4

I bought two at the same time and both of the them have the same verification code.

    • c'mon now, if you want to rock a fly pair of genuine "Nlk3 Air Mox" (TM)they are going to cost more than $29.99

And always check for spelling errors, a dead giveaway for fakes

  • do u need a US bank account?

    • +1

      for aliexpress? nope

for topcashback? nope - they pay paypal or amazon voucher.

  • I bought a few times from ali Express.

once bought some cheap polarised sunnies. were not polarised. money back no probs, not required to return item.

cheaper than ebay and better than their forced paypal system

and no dodgy trumped up "20% off after 15% price hikes" promos every other week

Cheers OP, will keep this in mind next time im looking for cheap chinese goods

  • The Raspberry pi 3 is very cheap on AliExpress once you factor the cashback. I got mine (including heatsink and enclosure with tracked shipping) for 42 usd using the default cashback rate from Cashrewards

  • sometimes the app price would be cheaper than the website’s price, so you need to consider the two. but 7% cash back is pretty good considering I spend around $50 to $100 each month.

anyway, is it cheaper to pay in usd with a Citibank card or aud?

    • Usd

    • +1

You can order in the app then pay in the website with cashback:)

      • Damn that's innovative. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • Have been using AliExpress for 2 years now. Recent changes to feedback where they now only show Supplier star rating rather than any actual comments by the purchaser has meant that poor quality items now get no mention. Those comments largely resulted in those products being withdrawn, but not anymore. So low star ratings can also mean poor service or poor product or both, but now you won't know which. AliExpress has capitulated to Merchant pressure at the cost of the Consumer. So, buyer beware.

  • I hold no hope of getting any money back. I don't even get money credited back to my account from successful disputes.
